The place seems to be a family-run business and both the husband and wife were very friendly. The husband even offered to drive me to a hot springs bath five minutes away and lent me an umbrella as it was raining heavily. The wife offered me some cookies and tea one night as a kind gesture. Breakfast is home-cooked and there was both rice and cereal available for 7000 won. I tried it for one morning and it was okay, but there are more varied options in the national park with all its cafes. The room was big and came with a mountain view. The bathroom came with a bath tub, which was nice, although the water took a while to heat up. It was very quiet when I was there as I was probably the only guest at that time. It's a 30 minute walk along a nice path along the river, or two bus stops to the national park, which was quite convenient as the bus came frequently. The next closest accommodation would be Kensington hotel, which is right next to the national park, but that would have cost a lot more. Just down the slope from The Red House is a stretch of restaurants and cafes, as well as a 7-11, which would meet all your needs. I liked that it was quiet and peaceful there as not many tourists seem to stay around this area.

If you can get past all the abandoned hotels in the area, it's actually a pretty peaceful and quiet place. The restaurants close at 7 pm, so you have to eat dinner before then, but the 7-11 is open until 11 pm. There is a hot springs town just a 5 minute drive away but the bus doesn't go there, so you'll need to call for a taxi.

I really enjoyed my stay here! The staff is super friendly and the location is perfect, with a couple of restaurants and a 7-eleven around but just 2,5 km away from Seoraksan National Park. You have to make a reservation for the breakfast in advance, but they're good meals, especially if you plan on hiking for a whole day. I booked a bed in the women's dorm, but ended up getting a free upgrade to a private room!

Great hospitality and location!! The family that runs the hotel were amazingly welcoming and friendly- they went way out of their way to make our stay as comforting and enjoyable as possible. They truly made us feel at home. It was an easy walk to the hiking trails in Seoraksan National Park- and the hotel provided us with maps and gave us detailed explanations and guides of where to go. The breakfast was also a real highlight, with delicious freshly made food, both Korean and western. Cannot speak highly enough of these people and their amazing accommodation.

Nothing, it was all wonderful 😊

The hotel did seem a little old and the rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. It was nicely heated and there’s hot water for showers as well. There’s a water dispenser at the common area so I didn’t have to buy mineral water from the stores. The hotel is located just 2mins walk away from the bus stop and 2 stops away from the Seoraksan Park entrance but the buses don’t seem to run very frequently so I ended up walking to and fro which only took about 20mins. The owners of the hotel is what made the stay an excellent one because they were sooooo friendly and helpful, answering all my questions and also feeding me sweet potatos everyday which were delicious! And the hotel is near quite a few restaurants, a 7-11 and a cafe called cafe bimildan which was awesome

We stayed for three nights in total and were really happy with our room and the service. The owners are super nice and helpful and the hotel is very well equipped. There are several water machines for hot and cold water, a microwave, washing machine and dryer, and air condition in the room, which was an essential in summer. The location was great for us. Easy to reach by public transport and walkable distance to the national park. All in all a very good experience!

Our room had all the essentials but could need some renovation. It was also quite dark, which maybe contributed to making it seem less clean (though there were no visible traces of dirt). A night light would definitely come in handy. Breakfast was provided but not really our taste (American toast with small plastic spreads and fried egg as well as some Korean dishes).

Location and owners were exceptional. The value of the rooms is exceptional. The hotel is a less than 5 minute bus ride to the entrance of Seoraksan National Park. The owner will give you exact details as to how to ride the bus in addition to anything else you need to know. Bus stop is very near the hotel. 7-11 is very close to the hotel. You can get most essentials here. The cost of the hotel is cheap in a good way!

It is old and cluttered but the pros outweigh the cons. Also, only one restaurant open for dinner within walking distance to the hotel. But the restaurant is Korean BBQ and the staff are so nice! You can eat dinner (BBQ) outside under the night sky. what an experience!

The surroundings of the place are just magical! The owners have a cafe in the second building that works only for dinners. The interior of that place is straight out of a movie! It's a two-storey library (ground floor and first floor) and within it there's like a separate building (building within a building), which is a cafe. We went there just because we were too tired to go far from the hotel and we were completely blown away by the magic of that place. Definitely check it out! It's not far away from the entrance to the Seoraksan Mountains, walkable distance. It's like a warm-up before hiking trails) The owner gave us the map and explained all the routes, the time they take, how do they differ between each other and helped us plan our time in the mountains in the best way possible. That was tremendously helpful!

The area around has a bit of a "ghost town" vibe. Empty buildings, very few people. It's charming in a way, but it's a bit sad that such a beautiful place is not flourishing as much as it should. The hotel itself is also a bit old. The rooms are very well maintained and clean though.

The location was really good and easy to get to from Sokcho (around 20-30 min by bus on the 7 or 7-1 bus). It is 2km from Seoraksan National Park entrance (2 bus stops away). There is also a strip mall of shops and restaurants including a 7-11 and a Korean BBQ restaurant nearby. Many of the restaurants close around 5pm but the BBQ restaurant is open later and is really good. Reception staff are super helpful with information about the area, park and hikes. He also showed us the room, how things worked and make sure we had what we needed. The room was a good size with underfloor heating. Near reception there are also some tables and a microwave to eat there if you want to just grab food from 7-11.

The bed wasn't the most comfortable (I think it was the electric blanket underneath I didn't like which probably wouldn't be a problem in summer months). A couple of the buildings in the area are a bit derelict but some other guests were explaining to us that the buildings had been bought by developers. It is still a nice area so don't be put off by the empty buildings. I think the owner might be trying to stop the development and is doing work on a couple of nearby buildings (with art installations and a library to support the sustainability of the area) so definitely worth supporting.

The breakfast buffet had plenty of options and we had free access to a water purifier and coffee. Upon arrival we got very thorough instructions, regarding the hostel itself and also hiking around the area. The floor heating was cozy after hiking in the rain, even though it got a bit too warm at times. There was the option to order dinner at a flexible time.

The lounge downstairs was pretty cold, so we chose to spend more time in our room.

Very hospitable innkeeper, providing much information in English about the visiting route in the national park. The accommodation offered me two comfortable nights in an extremely quiet surrounding area, and as other guests already have mentioned, the breakfast is tasty and well balanced in nutrition. The red house is just ahead the entrance of the national park, facing a stunning view of mountain, and only cost me 25min walking to the mountain foot (with an additional option to take bus).
