The room was very nice, clean and quite large. We got an upgrade upon arrival. The swimming pool and sky bar are beautiful and the views are amazing.

The food could be better and the restaurant staff is not very fast. I received a Shrimp curry instead of chicken one, and had to wait 10 min for the new one while the rice and sides were getting cold.

The hotel pools and outdoor areas are really great and we loved spending time there, sunset views were amazing. Breakfast was really good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious and the bed was very comfy, and the shower was very nice - big and powerful.

Drinks and food at the hotel were very expensive compared to going to bars and restaurants down the road. For example, cocktails were about £6 and an iced coffee was about £3, which is what I’d spend on coffee in the UK. Some parts of the hotel could do with a bit of renovation/update, although that didn’t really affect our stay except for the air con unit in our room which stopped working properly whilst we were there. We were still fine as the ceiling fan kept us cool enough. For us, these points are not deal breakers and so we would still recommend the hotel.

Staff were great, view lovely, room was spacious and clean Tuktuk drivers in the area will charge you 2 to 3 more because you are at the end of the street. And bully other cheaper drivers to stay away pick me and uber much better value but you have to walk for 2km the main Rd because they get hassled by the other overcharging drivers.

The staff are the best thing about this property. Prasad in particular on reception was excellent and very helpful. Chandana the property manager ensured I had a pick up from the airport and a lovely stay. Dilrukshi helped me plan all my treatments. The bar manager was so kind and helpful and all the staff were extremely friendly and professional My massage therapist was fantastic. I had a massage every day. The Thaprobani signature was terrific. My yoga teacher did 90 mins of yoga every day at 8am in a beautiful studio at Thaproban Retreat. A couple of mins walk from Waves. Nandan was brilliant and I really enjoyed his class. Very worth while trying.

It was my second time visiting, this time with family. We enjoyed relaxing around the pool, enjoying the roof top bar for sun downers and making use of the spa facilities (including an extra usage for a head massage when I had a migraine). The staff really make this hotel - the hospitality shown from arrival until you leave is exceptional. They are friendly, provide great service, and give wonderful tips for both the local area and the country to make the most of your stay. Would 100% recommend a stay here. Must do's: an experience at the spa (I would recommend the head massage); the BBQ night and the Sri Lankan food night; a cocktail on the roof terrace for sunset!

Everything! The rooms are fantastic (I stayed in a King room with a partial sea view, view over pool and great balcony), the swimming pool is large, clean and fantastic! The setting on the rocks overlooking the ocean, the food (seafood platter is GREAT value for money, curries and breakfast delicious), the staff, highly rated and recommended. We stayed at the Waves 5 nights and their sister property, The Beach House 4 nights and it was a fantastic combination! Waves gives you luxury and a great pool, while the beach house is a little less luxurious and no pool but ON the beach and in the heart of the town for shops and restaurants - I loved every moment and would highly recommend this! Thank you! Great wi-fi at Waves hotel.

Wonderful, friendly staff. 2 great pools Transfers available to sister properties (1 is on the beach) although it's not far or difficult to walk ........around 15 - 20 minutes to the long Unawatuna main beach, where there are many cafes, restaurants and (Although it's on the coast, the sea by the hotel is not accessible..........there are huge boulders and the swell on the sea is very strong). Looks magnificent though....... especially on a windy day. Around 20 minutes, partly tough, walk to Jungle. beach (This could be Rumassala beach?) A small beach where there are several cafe's and some sun-beds.

The staff of the hotel was something that made it the best stay at Sri-Lanka and one of the only 2 places that we really enjoyed on the island during our tour and we travelled quite a bit and stayed at 6 different places on the coast and inland. Hotel guys fully occupied our 5-year old daugther and were like full-time caregivers to her, so nice - thank you! We arrived a little late the first night and the restaraunt was about to close but the chef grilled us their seafood plate for 2 and that was the best thing we ate on the island that we also repeated the next days. Beach was one of the nicest within a 5 minute walk with free beds available of you make an order for a drink or some snack. Some locals also recommended us to visit the Jungle beach but we did not make it there. Facility is not new but still good and the atmosphere created by the staff was something that makes a stay at Thaproban Pavilion so comforting and pleasant!

That is a general problem that we found all around Sri-Lanka that you struggle every time you try to set air-conditioning to a proper profile but it keeps blowing like crazy. Might be a little noisy at Waves wing of the hotel as there are some private villas behind the fence and if there is a party going there - you will enjoy it in full.

Position it was a nice distance to walk to the beach, restaurants and bars and was a nice and quite location. The staff were amazing and forever helpful and happy. The breakfast buffet was excellent with fresh fruit, cakes and an egg station with an excellent chef who made a fantastic omelette. Our room was huge and the bathroom had a big walk in shower which was perfect. Both fresh and salt water pools were great and never crowded.

The lights in the corridor outside the room window made the room quite light at night but could turn it off if I could be bothered to get up!

Very well maintained property. Loved the pool area, available 2 different pools (one with salt water). Delicious and variable breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful, made our staying enjoyable. Location very good, lovely narrow street with lots of restaurant and shops nearby.

We booked queen room and king room. Unfortunately the queen room was quite dark due to very limited view from the window. AC wasn’t working properly in the queen room, so I hope they will fix it. Otherwise the humidity is instantly in the room with bad smell. Still, all the king rooms and suits are excellent.
