We would strongly recommend Chern if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Bangkok. In fact, we ended up staying twice on our trip and we were very pleased to be returning to it. The hotel is well located, the rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. However, the highlight for us was the pool which offered welcome respite from the intense Bangkok heat.

The fact you have to pay a 500 Bhat deposit for a room key is something we found very frustrating, particularly at the end of the trip when we did not want to withdraw more cash to cover the cost of this. It feels excessive to pay a fee for a plastic room card and it was annoying have to share one room key between 4 people.

We were absolutely delighted with this accommodation that calls itself a 'boutique hostel'. We arrived early and they kindly stored our bags and after we had been out to orientate and see some local sights (it is so close to Wat Suthat Thepwararam) allowed us to use the facilities which meant we got our washing done before we had even checked in! The room was huge and comfortable and they quickly provided us with extra pillows when we asked. We didn't want our room cleaned/towels changed so they left our fresh water for us and changed our bin when we left it outside, it's great to be allowed to try and be as eco as possible as a traveller. The pool is lovely and a perfect way to cool after sightseeing. The area is fantastic, an easy walk to the Grand Palace (if you are stopped by a helpful local telling you it is closed smile and keep walking, it is a common scam), 10 minutes to the MRT and about that to the canal taxi too. We didn't use them but there were always taxis waiting outside the hotel, and there are plenty of shops to pick up what you need. We also found a couple of great cafes nearby in the direction of the Grand Palace, Corner 144 and The Knight House, really lovely places for breakfast/coffee. The hotel does provide a very good value simple breakfast and we believe food until lunchtime but didn't find out more about that. There is a basic food and drink vending machine. The hostel aspect means there's a common space on the first floor with darts, beanbags, a large table and books. There are self serve washing facilities on the ground floor as well as a kettle and a microwave which helped us keep on top of our budget, but otherwise consider this a really good hotel. Can't believe the value for money, will use again if we are ever lucky enough to visit this amazing city.

This is being picky! We did get ants when we left opened food, but we easily solved that. If you are on the ground floor the balcony is too small to sit out on.

Everything! Let's discuss this part by part. LOCATION: Chern is only about 45 minutes away from Suvarnabhumi airport (Grab fare was around 545B). The train (they call BTS, station is Sam Yot) is only 10-15 minutes away by foot. HOTEL AND STAFF: The common areas are kept clean, spacious, and airy. The room that we got was superb. The concierge was helpful and very friendly. They even let us, who arrived prior to our check in, to deposit our bags in the lobby, so we can have lunch without having to carry too many things. THINGS TO DO: Once there, temples are nearby. Some have walking distance while others are only 15-30 mins away. There are also a lot of Michelin-recognized restaurants around. For instance, Thipsamai is only five minutes away by foot. Khao Sana is in 1.5 kilometers while Chinatown is roughly 2 kms away. Silom, MBK and the other malls are all 15 mins away by Grab. From Sam Yot station, you can go Chatuchak by train too. All in all, Chern is ideal for those who want to have access to both culture and fun.

I've stayed at Chern last time I came to Bangkok and this time and I think I will come here every time! Its in such a perfect location - 15-20 min walk to Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Khaosan Road, Chinatown, boat pier, 10 mins from metro station so its easy to get to from the airport or the main train station Krung Thep Aphiwat, literally 2 mins away from Thip Samai (oldest pad thai place), 5 mins from Golden Mount etc. Last time I was here they were still building the pool, now it's in use and it's amazing, good size and great to cool off in after walking in the scorching heat of Bangkok! They have a washing machine and dryer so it's perfect if you need to wash your clothes for a few coins. They also provide breakfast now which is quite nice! Good aircon in the room, not too loud and no noise from the street as the hotel is tucked away from the main street. Overall I personally think its the best place to stay in Bangkok!

Can't think of anything - for the price you pay it's absolutely excellent

Excellent staff and value for money! The hostel is just too good and is located right in the centre of Bangkok. You get a good breakfast at an affordable price & the staff speaks good English and will help you with anything. The place is just like in the pictures and is kept neat and clean. You have Wat Pho, Emerald Budha, Khao San road etc at walkable distances and there's a 7-eleven right in the corner just 250 meters away. And if you want to travel anywhere like Floating market etc or even the airport, the hotel staff will help you with a cab at a reasonable price. Overall it was a delightful experience.

The only minor inconvenience is that the check-in time is 2 PM. So if you are arriving in Bangkok on an early morning flight, you will have to stay in the hotel lobby till 2 PM or roam around the city tired after all that travel.

I really liked everything! The bedroom was really beautiful, spacious and clean. Beautiful pool and very kind and smiling stuff! It was more an hotel than hostel! Good wifi connection for us, digital nomads! The location was pretty good! The metro was 10 mins walking and China town 25 mins and Kausan road 15 mins. The neighborhood was very safe and full of street food at night. Great location!

if you are looking for a party hostel, it's not that kind of place. Very quiet, silent and relaxing.

My friend and I had a stopover in Bangkok for three days at Chern. We loved the hotel - gorgeous, friendly and helpful staff and a quiet location. Loved that you could get breakfast until 2pm! The experience we had was better than expected value for money. Staff were helpful they did there best to explain how to get to places. If you want to travel further out to city center of Bangkok/ Night markets I would recommend downloading grab taxi it's cheap and reliable cost effective. The room was lovely air conditioning it was clean had a TV no good if you can't understand the language and it's not a smart TV so you can't hook up phones or laptops to it. But we where not there for that. Beds are comfortable a bit hard if you sleep on your side but we did sleep well when we were not busy. There is a washing machine and dryer if you need to use it. The pool is refreshing early hours in the morning ;) there is a multi gym basically a machine what does everything. There is a facility for breakfast in the morning basic but okay, coffee is great costs arond B130 for the breakfast coffee and orange juice not open Wednesdays. I would recommend try and walk to destinations if you can the amount of amazing shops and markets you find on the way. The two main points of destination like Chinatown, the golden buddah and the reclining Buddha it's worth it but wear comfortable shoes. I would have to say if I was ever back in the area I would be staying there again. And thank you to all the staff, you made it a great experience. Mark & Kelly

Only thing I would say is make sure you have a Thai SIM card and Google Maps at all time.

Good location. Not far from old town and it took only 10 to 15-minute ride to The Grand Palace, the Emerald Buddha Temple and Chinatown. Also very easy to grab something to eat neaby, mostly street food and local restaurants. Bed was comfortable and clean. Staffs especially at the Reception were friendly and helpful.

Spent loveley three nights at Chern Bangkok. The room was big, had a comftable bed, a nice & clean bathroom, and it came with an air conditioner. I absolutley loved the pool area aswell as the common area of the hotel. As a female solo traveler i felt safe all the time! Cute & helpfull staff. The location of the hotel is great, it is a bit hidden, but near to many big temples, the palace, some great parks and restaurants.

My room was near to the common area & had a window towards the pool, so it was a little bit noisy during the night, but nothing ear plugs couldn't fix.
