The Ship Inn built 1868 is the last building on the High Street before making a left turn to the beach (pebble/shingle). It is approximately 200 metres to the beach and beach side tea rooms and car park. Our room 'Leat Hill' was on a shared landing up a flight of stairs with the room overlooking a paved patio and the garden. The room was en-suite (bath shower over), comfortable, well furnished,, and very warm even without the heating. There was plentiful hot water, a nice comfortable bath and good range of toiletries. It was large enough for two adults and two small dogs with two dog beds, drinking bowls and dog treats being provided. This is a genuine 'dog friendly' establishment with dogs welcome in all areas. We had breakfast everyday and the menu had a good choice of cereal, cooked breakfasts, for all tastes, and drinks all served at the table. We had two evening meals (main course with sweet) and the food and service were excellent. The conservatory was our choice of venue for eating but we also dined in the restaurant. The garden area is large and well equipped with tables and there is also a garden bar. There is parking for six cars plus a reserved space for people with mobility concerns otherwise it is street side parking (not a problem). Dunwich is a very quiet village even during day despite the beach being so close to the Inn. The Staff were outstanding throughout our stay.

The property was amazing, the family room was great for my son who is in a wheel chair. The beach walk was beautiful and so near. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My son was sick during the night and they were so understanding in the morning, and reassured us to not worry about the soiled sheets. Thank you.

The pub itself wasn’t wheel chair friendly due to its age but the staff were helpful with ramps but need to be shown how to use them to prevent a potential accident from happening. Breakfast was delicious although, it took a while for it all to come then the second course arrived before my friend and son and the other table finished their cereals. My cereals were forgotten, although I tried to point this out a couple of times, I was offered them but My hot food would have gone cold. Too many flies about, could do with some fly catching equipment.

Loved our stay here. The family "room" was actually a a little suite - a double room and twin with little bathroom in between, so we were all thrilled with the extra space. Careful with heads though - my boys and husband are all over 6ft and had to watch themselves not only through doorways but also inside the rooms, designed for smaller folk when the Inn was built in the 16th century, so we would ask for a lower floor another time, now that we know. Breakfast really delicious. Dogs made welcome. Perfect location for visiting Minsmere and experiencing the Suffolk Coast. We were seeing friends in Aldeburgh the day before and after, and it was a proper little holiday treat to stay here in between.

Somewhat grumpy welcome on arrival. We were very late, I know, but we had called in advance to let them know.... However staff at breakfast the next morning were delightful and couldn't have been more helpful.

The hotel is ideally located for visits to local beauty spots (e.g. Dunwich Heath) and attractive towns (Southwold, Aldeburgh). The breakfast food was good (I particularly liked the muesli) and our evening meals were also well prepared and tasty, with plenty of choice. The staff were friendly and happy to please. The good-sized bathroom with bath was a definite plus.

Our bedroom was smaller than expected and I banged my shins a couple of times on the bed, which only just fitted. The switch for my bedside light was stuck behind the bed, making it difficult to switch on and off - small issues, that didn't affect our enjoyment of the weekend but might have become annoying for a longer stay. Service was rather slow at breakfast time, perhaps due to the kitchen struggling to cope with hot meal orders?

The staff were really welcoming and friendly, but quick and efficient as well. We had a choice of seating areas for supper and the food was excellent, we didn't have room for dessert! Our room was cosy and had a lovely feel to it, with a very comfy bed, so we slept well. We opted for a lie-in, so missed breakfast sadly. The beautiful beach is just a 3min walk away down a quiet track, and it's not to be missed, especially on the glorious days that we were there. This is a wonderful place to eat or stay, I highly recommend it.

Location wonderful Food was great, good choice on evening menu and breakfast menu had a lot of choices and was okay. Bar area was warm and welcoming when we arrived and staff really friendly and welcoming.

The pub is a little jaded decor wise (verging on scruffy/mucky) in the public areas, ie stairs area, and it’s kerb appeal is untidy. Rooms are a little dated or at least ours was. Very scruffy unpleasant blanket thing on the bottom of the bed. Breakfast and dinner was served in bar area which in the morning was cold. A lit fire would have been lovely.

Location and facilities- our original room was too small but we paid to upgrade and the room was fantastic.

Organisation. I had a phone call the day before asking where we were and I explained that they had the wrong arrival date. It was their error it no apologies. We booked on the internet for a table for evening meal and they did not have the booking. The same happened with a telephone booking. You do need to book in advance as the restaurant gets busy

Having stayed in Chestnut Inns before we enjoyed our time. The waitress did take the feedback on very hard toast with the pate and fed this back to the kitchen and removed cost from the bill. The service for both the Christmas meal and breakfast was very good. Also it is always great to be able to bring your dog, and ours had a great time.

We had opted for the Christmas menu, the food was good but there were a couple of issues. For the main turkey roast the gravy had been poured all over it - this is something that my wife really dislikes and took away her enjoyment of the meal.

Close to (beautiful) beach just a short walk, although nothing else around area unless long walk or drive but that was ok for us. The pub was lovely and cosy. Good breakfast choice and plenty to eat.

Booked 2 rooms, one was a small double in separate building. Quite small and basic not like the pictures. Main building rooms seemed much better although some are dearer. Bit of confusion over dinner table booking but was moved to main restaurant room on request. Food was good. Unfortunately few dishes on sample menu we had seen weren’t on but other options were good and desserts enormous !

Lovely quaint pub, nice rooms and well decorated. Staff were very friendly and super accommodating to our 2 dogs. We especially loved the food, we had an evening meal and breakfast during our stay and both were very good. We stayed in a standard double which was big enough for myself, my partner and my labrador. The dogs are given a bed and water bowl, both looked brand new and our dog loved the bed. My mother and father had an issue with their room but this was quickly sorted out by the manager and they were moved to another room and they deducted money from our bill to apologise. Over all stay was enjoyed and we would stay again. We could not fault the service or the food.

There were some minor issues in our room, such as mold in the bathroom which could be cleaned off and marks on the walls which could also be touched up/cleaned off - both of these lowered the standard but otherwise good level of cleanliness…not spotless but good. My parents had an issue with their room whereby it was dirty and extremely tired (carpets very worn etc) this was one of the ‘better’ rooms which they had paid a high rate for. They were quickly moved to a clean room (smaller as the hotel was fairly full) and had deductions on our bill at the end. I am unsure why the level of cleanliness was so low in the ‘better’ room as the other rooms were clean and we would have expected a higher standard being a high rate room.
