The room and the bed was very nice. The bed was extremely comfortable The en suit and room was also very clean

The mozzarella starter could do with fresh home made croutons not packet ones. The food was not great, we had salmon and a pie, the pie was good but salmon was a little slimey which put my wife off immediately We did not complain as my wife does not like to although we were never asked how our meal was and at our local we also get table service for drinks and the meals are of the same price. Breakfast was also hit and miss even though the quality was there on the meat and eggs there was far to much sauce on the eggs benedict and the mushrooms that seemed to be grilled were very dry.

Ambience. The week before Christmas they had blazing coal fires in every room in the pub area. Beautiful decorations throughout .Wonderful location across the road from the market square close to shops, pubs, restaurants and country walks. The breakfasts were excellent with very accommodating staff and a vast choice of breakfast options. Our room was very comfortable with a king-size bed and good size bathroom which had a really good over bath shower. A memorable stay that we hope to repeat in the future.

Parking. Be very careful! What looks like a pub car park is mostly a Council pay and display area. There is a first come car park a short distance behind the pub but I was not informed that only 3 spaces in the pub car park were free to park. This got me a £50 parking ticket (reduced to £25 on early payment). Even this did not spoil our lovely stay.

The room was spacious and spotless clean..view was fantastic.... And also bed was very comfortable and had great night sleep....The checkin was quick and very efficient, the staff were excellent very attentive,and helpful, always smiling and talked to customers and took time to enquire how was your holidays and if needed information on area were very helpful. Made the stay a lot more enjoyable. They took time to chat when looking after us at breakfast and this was very friendly and made breakfast a brilliant experience and also choices were plentiful and also table service for the hot food . There is no lift so if you have mobility issues. They will have rooms available for your stay.

Nothing thought was excellent, except one small thing. Got a liver and mash main course. Thought portion size a little small. Potatoes and veg are not expensive, so they could more on plates as a meal tasted fantastic...

The family room was lovely - nice space with a annex section that my son enjoyed as being "separate" from the main section of the room. The Inn was beautiful and historic and in a fabulous location in the village centre. Breakfast was excellent and I appreciated being able to go back and fill up my coffee cup when I was ready rather than wait for a member of staff to bring the drinks around. Evening meal was good as well. Staff friendly, Can highly recommend it.

Nothing could have been improved. Just a word of warning - the car park at the front of the hotel is a 20 minute only stay before 6pm and after 9am in the morning so ok to unload bags but do not leave your car there. The car park is up at the side of the hotel!

A pleasant welcome at Reception. Our room was clean and spacious and we found the bed to be exceptionally comfortable. Navigation to our room proved rather confusing at first and we felt direction signage, and indeed the room numbering system itself, could be much improved. Breakfast was very good and served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Parking was easy and free. We had only one evening meal at the Black Swan but enjoyed our food on all three courses and the bottle of wine. There appeared to be a significant number of dogs in the Restaurant area on the night we dined and, whilst we understand the rural nature of this area, it did impact somewhat on our relaxed evening.

Breakfast - Food was good but the self service layout was not logical & didn’t flow . Also coffee should have been served with a hot milk facility or at the very least room temperature. Ice cold milk meant cold coffee Room was very good & quiet . Toiletries were good quality & the fan was a very welcome addition because the weather was very hot during our stay Dinner was good , plenty of options & good value Voucher for a free drink in lieu of daily cleaning a good idea & very much appreciated One criticism was that in spite of notices that dogs should not be allowed in carpeted areas this was was not complied with by some people or policed by your staff Cheese plate did not have grapes on but a member of you staff went the extra mile & purchased some from the shop when we pointed it out All in all a very enjoyable stay with good food . Also helpful & friendly staff Would definitely come back & also recommend

As stated earlier hot milk as standard at breakfast & NOT ice cold milk which resulted in cold coffee Buffet element of break fast seemed disorganised & did not flow . People were always in one another’s way

Beautiful location, excellent facilities in the hotel, managed to find parking at the rear without a problem. Staff were helpful and polite, good choice of breakfast in well equipped restaurant with plenty of choice of tables and outside dining if the weather is kind. We had 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, plus we were lucky and had gorgeous sunny weather 😎 😀

The bathroom had a few issues, the toilet even though it looked clean smelled a little and the bath had a few left over body hairs from the previous occupants but other than that it was a good size and plenty of hot water from the shower.

Lovely old period property, we were given an upgrade and our room was large, well appointed with views of the beer garden. The bed was so comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. The hotel is located centrally in the village so ideal for wandering around the shops and nearby attractions. The staff were all very helpful and courteous.

Given the number of guests they accommodate the dinner service could have benefited from a waiter/waitress taking meal orders rather than having to queue at the bar, however we both enjoyed our delicious evening meals. Unfortunately the breakfast was awful and clearly a number of cooked breakfast items had been sitting under halogen lights most notably the dried rubbery mushrooms. The sausage and bacon was low quality too. We checked in around 5pm so were unable to secure a hotel car parking place, however we were easily able to park on Market Square as it was a Tuesday, parking is restricted on the Square from Thursday to Saturday due to the market being in operation.

Its location and the ambience of the building. It has plenty of character and still gives that warmth and charm of yesteryear. I would stay there again

The menu falls short for vegetarians. I must point out that it is not just this hotel but almost every hotel. We would have liked to eat there every night, but if there is only one appealing item on the menu, then you have to look elsewhere to eat. However I don’t want that, I want to eat in surroundings that I paid for. It is symptomatic of the hospitality industry, yes we cater for vegetarians, but do you really? I am the carnivore and even I feel for my partner.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and most efficient. We were made very welcome and the check in and out were excellent. The room was a little small but extremely clean with a lovely shower and bathroom. The heating system was very good, lovely to come back to a cosy warm room after being out in the cold all day. The bar staff were great as were the staff at breakfast, nothing was too much trouble.

The room was a little small and the parking was quite limited. We were lucky and found a space but when we went to the car late afternoon we noticed there wasn’t a space left for any late comers. We would not hesitate to recommend The Black Swan to our friends.
