Wow! We had a really lovely 7-night stay at The Harnser in Cley, which is a credit to the vision, hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm of the proprietors Alan and Ronan. After a very warm welcome on our first day, we enjoyed a delicious evening meal in the pub and got to know our hosts. They suggested various activities and excursions, and after learning that our pre-booked seal watching trip from Lowestoft had been cancelled, they told us about local firms doing similar trips from Morston, just a couple of miles away. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip, and we thoroughly recommend booking a trip with one of the firms at Morston Point. Other activities centred around the numerous National Trust properties and a Shire Horse Sanctuary near Cromer, which was home to all sorts of rescued animals and was free to visit. Our accommodation was very clean, comfortable and airy. We enjoyed three evening meals at the Harnser, and all were outstanding. The sea bass is well recommended! Alan and Ronan really looked after us and made our whole stay so very enjoyable. We will be back, and hopefully, soon!

There was a wide variety of breakfasts available which were extremely delicious catering for all tastes. Complete a Harnser breakfast (vegetarian or full English) and you know that it had fuelled your energy levels for the day. The Harnser is the hub of Cley next to the Sea, with customers and locals popping in for a coffee and a bite to eat after an early morning walk. Alan and Ronan are excellent hosts and make everyone welcome to their establishment. As busy as the Harnser can be, it still maintains a cosy relaxing atmosphere of an historical building. It is a dog friendly establishment and the presence of both Reuben and Rocco Frenchies are an inhouse entertainment and always welcome customers entering the premises.

The drive home to Essex in the rain after 4 relaxing days at the HARNSER.

Our time at The Harnser was simply exceptional. Rowan and Alan, along with their French bulldogs, Rocco and Reuben, were great hosts, welcoming us into their world. We instantly felt at home and part of The Harnser family. Cley Next The Sea is a stunning setting. The East Anglian skyline, architecture, and coast are magical. And The Hanser offers a perfect venue from which to explore the area whether you are attracted to its history, scenery, unique shops or a combination of all three. Moreover, it was abundantly clear that Rowan and Alan are so respected in the community. The locals were popping in and out of their beautiful bistro pub for chats, food and drinks all day long. We enjoyed talking with them as we sipped Norfolk gin and tonic. And the breakfasts and dinners at The Harnser are first rate experiences in their own right. Along with the locals, we also had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with many returning guests at the B&B. If you are looking for a relaxing break in this beautiful area, The Hanser can't fail to impress. We left Cley Next To Sea with not only glittering memories, but with our body, mind and spirit very much refreshed. And the thanks go to Rowan, Alan, Rocco and Reuben at their beautiful Harnser. We will be back!

We found the location central to the Norfolk coast destinations. There is also good parking at the hotel. Excellent breakfast with a variety of choice on the menu. Also the evening meals are excellent with a varied choice. The host Ronan was friendly, welcoming & very attentive. Staff were also friendly & attentive. We felt at home here especially with Rocco & Ruben the fabulous dogs. The surrounding area has excellent walks, close to the beach & Nature reserve. Overall the stay was Excellent at The Harnser & would have no hestitation in recommending.

We wouldn’t change anything.

The Harnser is an old pub right in the centre of historic Cley. We could see the iconic windmill from our window. The room was really atmospheric with a well presented en suite shower room. The meals were really high quality, with local seafood at dinner and a great full English breakfast. The strongest memory though is of the warm welcome from Ronan, who really engaged with us as though we were old friends from the minute we arrived. Family commitments mean we will be visiting this picturesque area regularly, I think we have found our first choice of accommodation for those visits from now on!

We had such a wonderful stay at The Harnser. We loved the hospitality of our host, Ronan, and his dogs, Rocco and Rubin. It felt like coming back to a group of friends in the evening, or being like one of the locals, even though we were only there for a few nights and didn't know anyone. Don't think I've every stayed anywhere this friendly. The food was divine! Had a great meal there the first night - fresh ingredients, delicious flavours. Breakfast was also very tasty and a good size to start your day. The dining/breakfast room had a great atmosphere. The room was very comfortable, especially the bed. It was cosy and cute and a good size. We had a bathroom in the hallway, right outside the bedroom, which I thought I'd mind but I didn't at all as we were the only ones who could use it. Location - Cley-Next-The-Sea is very pretty and close to lots of nature reserves, by foot or by car. I was amazed by the landscape on the North Norfolk Coast and loved how many birds we were able to spot during each of our hikes.

The shower, though practical, was quite small and left little room to move around. We also had the boiler in our room, which did turn on and off as people used hot shower (I imagine). It wasn't a big issue and was a background noise, but I did notice it at times. Ronan didn't wake us up during the once-in-a-lifetime, probably-never-will-happen-again, aurora event (kidding that was our fault for going to bed early).

I was traveling on a fairly tight budget in need of B&B and The Harnser matched my expectations - in a good way. The room (# 5) was spotlessly clean & comfortable, although small & spartan (as expected) - think Vincent van Gogh's bedroom with the addition of a small TV plus tea / coffee making facilities! The tiny private shower room / toilet was perfectly adequate (good, hot shower - mind your head going through the low door frame!) and the bed super comfy - I slept like a log. Whereas the room was simple, the downstairs bar / restaurant was plush, and the staff extremely pleasant and accommodating. A special 'Hats Off!' to the lovely, sweet Alan who managed to produce a delicious curry very late in the evening to stave off my hunger gremlins! Breakfast was first-rate with cracking teas and coffees to boot. A great little B&B that gets an enthusiastic 'thumbs-up' from me. Thanks for a very pleasant visit.

The Harnser is quaint, and homely, and we were made to feel really welcome and at home. A lovely old building with lots of character made a lovely change from the sameness of more modern hotels. Our room was clean, comfortable and cosy with everything we needed and a lovely view of the Cley windmill from our window. Ronan and Alan were the most excellent hosts - ably assisted by the dogs Rocco and Reuben, who were all friendly, helpful, and accommodating in all respects. We were lucky to be the only guests there for most of our three night stay so it felt like we had a very personal service, especially for our breakfasts. However, it was clear that Alan and Ronan make all their guests feel very welcome both in the restaurant/tea room and hotel, and the food was freshly cooked to order and absolutely delicious at both breakfasts and evening meals. Additionally the Harnser serve a selection of delicious cakes during the day which we didn’t try ourselves during our stay but will definitely be back to sample! Cley is a lovely scenic village to visit, and the Harnser is well placed both for local short or longer walks, or trips out further afield along the Norfolk coast. We had a fantastic few days and would definitely stay here again.

Nothing to dislike!

An overall excellent experience... Cley-Next-The-Sea was unknown to us before, but we loved its situation and general village feel. If you have a dog, or just like wander, the walks direct from the front door of The Harnser are wonderful. Ronan (one of the owners) loves to talk & mingle with the guests/visitors and was a joy to interact with... He was certainly the 'host with the most'... Food was excellent as was the drink and cake at the bar! :-)

Very little could have been done to improve our visit... Our room was a little basic, but, to be honest, it didn't need to be more as we didn't plan to spend time there other than sleeping at night, to which we can state the bed was very comfortable.

We booked the Harnser for a 4 day/3 night stay and loved it. From the minute we arrived to the time we left, Ronan and Alan, along with canines Rocco and Ruben, were welcoming and very friendly. The room we had (No. 3), had an ensuite and albeit the first floor bedroom looked over the High Street, the road was quiet during the night. The room was spacious enough and clean. I believe that the bathrooms will be having an overhaul at some time, but they more than served their purpose and too, were clean and fully functional. We had breakfast which we found very enjoyable and filling, refills of tea or coffee and toast were welcomed. We also ate twice in the evening at the Harnser which has a restaurant for guests and non-residents and both times had very enjoyable meals. The Harnser has within its restaurant area some sofa chairs to sit and have a drink too and the bar is well stocked. Parking is available at the Harnser and there is more than enough room if everyone parks sensibly. From the Harnser, turning left, one can walk into Cley next the Sea where there is a lovely bookshop just a few doors away, another pub, a clay pottery shop, a great fish shop/smokery and corner shop selling wine, beers, fruit and veg, bread and cakes. Highly recommend the Cruffin! Walking from the Harnser turning right, one can walk to the pebbled beach and is exactly one mile on a raised walkway. One can extend the walk and head to Blakeney which I gather is about 2.5 miles in total, but we did not walk this. There is a bus that runs along the coastal road and which runs between Blakeney and Cley next the Sea. The Harnser is ideally positioned for many activities, from fishing to boating, Holkham Hall and Estate, to visiting National Trust parks such as Blickling, Sheringham Park, Blakeney and Felbrigg Hall. We visited Blickling which was great for accommodating dogs. The town of Holt is nearby too as are various beaches.

We couldn't fault the Harnser, however, it is very informal and relaxed which suited us, but may not suit everyone. In addition, we came with a dog and Ronan also has two dogs Rocco and Ruben who are as much of the Harnser team as Ronan and Alan and they are fantastic and very friendly if you yourself are dog-friendly people. Do check your vehicle when driving away to be sure that Rocco and Ruben have not jumped in as extra passengers! :-)
