University Plaza Waterfront Hotel

I called late in the evening on 1/18, Wednesday, looking to find a hotel to book for my mom who was traveling unexpectedly down from Oregon to Los Angeles. She had her dog with her and just needed a place to rest after many hours on the road. Paul at the front desk helped me get the reservation set up over the phone and ensured she didn’t have to worry about the check in paperwork or payment when she arrived. I can’t explain to you after the day we had how wonderful it was to have a kind and caring contact to help. For background my mom’s mother (my grandmother ) become unexpectedly very sick Wednesday morning and was sent to the emergency room- my mom didn’t start the day expecting to drive 14 hours down the I-5 but that’s how it ended. Being able to rest easy knowing my mom was in great hands and in a clean, safe room overnight was the most I could have asked for. We will certainly come back in the future and we can only hope it’s Paul who can assist us again!

the only complaint my mom had was parking was a bit of a hassle.

The room was clean and well decorated

The bed was not very comfortable and if more than one person sat on the foot end of the bed, the mattress would raise up. Checkin and parking were a mess due to an event at the civic center near by. Cars lined up just to get to the building and a congestion of people walking to the event. As we were in line to checkin, we had to listen to the very loud noise coming from parties in the restaurant right next to the lobby. We didn’t have time to checkout the amenities such as restaurant and waterfront. Lastly, there was quite a bit of noise in the hallway while we were trying to sleep.

The pool and the outdoor seating was great. Our room was large enough for a roll away bed. The beds were comfortable. We could walk to nearby restaurants.

It was very busy as a sporting event was going on but staff did their best to get people checked in quickly. The drive through lane for loading and unloading was blocked off which was strange because it required that you backup to get to the parking lot. It was an expensive place to stay.

Room was very clean/ Very comfortable bed. Shower was awesome. Pet friendly. Good loccation close to central area of Stockton, places to eat and things to do.

None of the resort options were available, but I was still charged a resort fee. I feel this should be waived right now. You cant use any of the amenities so it seems wrong to charge for them.

Excellent service from hotel and restaurant staff. Pet friendly with ample room to exercise my doggie. View over looking waterfront excellent. Ample parking. Restaurant and full bar with sports screens for evening enjoyment.

No breakfast on site, 24 hour lobby store relatively thinning stocked, i.e., no bottled water. Waterfront trashed my homeless with trash, remains of burned campsites on sidewalks and definitely not safe to walk in the evening or nighttime.

Full service hotel, purpose-built. Quiet a/c. Good beds. Lots of places to walk our dogs. Riverfront location. They are really trying.

Stockton is an economically depressed town with a LOT of homeless people. Seemed to be an open-air drug market along the river at night … no one bothered us but it was a little strange.

it was clean, private and the courtyard/play area was exceptional.

there were a lot of things that needed to be fixed. some of the staff at times were lazy and found excuses not to assist. the restaurant opened after 1pm and closed by 9. Most food had to be obtained off site.

Server in bar was great! We ate and drank in restaurant/bar 2 nights, with family members due to funeral in town. She was most attentive, and we kept her busy.Sorry I don't remember her name. It was also nice and cool inside, which helped the hot condition outside. Our room was clean.Bed was fine.

We arrived from airport earlier than room being ready, so we waited. The only direction given by staff was to wait in lobby. We had hoped restaurant on site was open but not until evening. No water or coffee in lobby. Only one bench inside or some in outside courtyard. But so hot. Since arriving by cab we were unable to go anywhere on foot. Nothing available near hotel. We were very thankful for restaurant when opened finally. Public bathroom was in restricted area (closed restaurant that we had to "sneak" into get to. No sign to direct us to bathrooms.) We had to request enough towels. Had to walk 2 blocks in morning for coffee. None available in hotel.

The location, staff and restaurant/bar were great. We felt safe there. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. AC system in our room was great. Good shower.

The king size bed in our room, #246 was not comfortable at all. A bit wore out.

Good place to stay for a night or two if for whatever reason you happen to be in Stockton. I liked the gated outdoor area by the pool with artificial grass, and patio furniture to lounge around. Actually managed to get some work done in the outdoor area, which was pleasant. A security guard was pretty efficient at chucking out some zonked out junkie as soon as he entered the door. Room was comfy and clean, and housekeeping staff were very nice and appeared to be taking precautions with COVID.

The patio furniture and artificial grass could do with some cleaning.
