Amaroo On Mandalay

The resort is perfect for families travelling together. We loved that we had all three family rooms together. That the kids had a safe place to play. That we could all gather together without disturbing other guests. Loved that there was a children's playground and pool. Tennis courts were great and all the gorgeous wildlife. Kate is lovely too. We all had the most amazing time.

The only thing I didn't like was that not all rooms were equipped in the same way. My youngest son and his family barely had any catering equipment, whereas our room was fully equipped. We did okay with borrowing things from each other, but I felt like we were in the wrong rooms because they had a young family.

The room was nice and clean and modern. It was like a studio apartment with a full fridge and a microwave. The pool was really great for getting out of the mid-day heat. We were there during a quiet time of year, but there wasn't really anyone else ever at the pool at the same time as us. The aircon was really nice and the bed was comfy. Lots of wildlife around.

If you don't have a car, the bus doesn't come very often, but it worked out well enough for us once we downloaded the bus timeable. They dropped us at the ferry, so it wasn't much of an issue.

The staff member that greeted us in Reception was so friendly and helpful. We immediately felt welcome. The room was very clean and well appointed. The grounds were full of beautifully maintained garden areas which were home to a variety of native animals and birds. The location of the Motel was away from the hustle and bustle of Nelly Bay Harbor, which added to our feeling very relaxed.

There were limited Car parks available off the street, but in the Resort's defense, there was a Wedding taking place that may have been the reason there were no car parks available.

Location was good, pool was lovely, complex was clean and tidy, although dated.

We paid for 7nights but could only stay 4, sadly charged for 7. No fresh towels offered, had to ask reception.

I had a room with a national park at my back door. I seen wallabys. It was peaceful and quiet and the staff were wonderful and friendly and so helpful. They picked me up from the ferry and took me back on my departure. It has an amazing long pool where I could do laps and it had magnesium in it.

No tissues or shampoo was supplied. The pool had a layer peeling off and it was sharp.

- Layout of the retreat. With the building's architecture and spread it felt like stepping back in time and had a nostalgic feel to it (but not in a dated way). - Value for money. This resort may not be the epitome of luxury but the rooms have everything you need (kitchenette was a bonus) and ours was clean on arrival. - Staff were friendly and very helpful. - Resort located only 1km away from ferry terminal, and a bus stop is located right outside. - Bird feeding.

- Buffet breakfast. Either BYO breakfast or go to a cafe down the road. - Wifi only in reception or restaurant. If you're attached to your mobile device this will be a downer (NOTE: phone reception on the island in general is bad so 4G/5G may not be an option either).

The pool area was so great for the two young kids. As was the kookaburra feeding! I highly recommend it if you are travelling with young children. Also the location to Nelly Bay ferry made it so easy and having a bus stop right out the front made travel through out the island stress free.

It was very comfortable and basic rooms but given we hardly spent time in the rooms this is not a criticism, just pointing it out.

Nice and clean rooms in beautiful garden surroundings. Kitchen facilities were good - full size fridge and we got electric cooking pan from reception, so we could cook some of our meals. Big swimming pool, tennis courts and BBQ on site for guests to use.

My phone had no service and there was no wi-fi in the rooms, only in the reception area. Resort restaurant was often closed. Located a little bit further away from shops and restaurants - ab. 20 min walk. Bus at door, but not very frequent.

Great location but definitely handy to have a car. Room was clean and had what we needed. The apartments are being renovated and will be even better when they are finished.

Hard to get up and down the ramps to get bags to the rooms. Car park was full when we were there and not many options to park nearby. Need to check for public holidays as the restaurant was closed. No coffee shops open on the island after 2pm, as a Melbounrnian this was a tradgedy! 😊

The location relative to the ferry terminal. The setting amongst the trees and a lot of natural wildlife. Facilities it had to offer. All administrative staff were nice and made us feel welcome. Try and get rooms that are in the middle section left of the swimming pool. Newer renovations and very nice rooms.

If you are in the 162 to 180 room numbers they are a lot older inside and smaller.
