The grounds are gorgeous, the food is good, and the staff is very nice. They helped us upgrade to a better room on a very busy night and offered us free coffee in the morning.

It is hard for me to rate this hotel because it is really two different hotels, a three-star hotel that is reasonably priced and reasonably clean, and a cheap motel that happens to be on the same grounds. When I booked my room, I did not realize that I was booking an "economy" room which is in the "cheap motel" part of the hotel. I was shocked to find an old and grimy room with no closet, or even any hangers, and no refrigerator. The staff was nice enough to let us upgrade to a different room, which was much better, but when I book a 3-star hotel I expect a minimum level of basic amenities from *all* rooms.

We had a master suite to accommodate my husband and I and our 3 daughters. We had connecting rooms which were beautiful! Vaulted ceilings, private balconies, wood floors all had serene character. AC so appreciated in August. We got in late so didn’t get to use the pool, but looked beautiful. Grounds were gorgeous, lots of nature! Common areas had pool tables, chess, great seating areas with views of grounds. Food was excellent. Close to airport which is why we stayed here before flying out. Didn’t want to stay at a big chain hotel for similar price after such a wonderful vacation in Costa Rica. Thank you!

The room I stayed in was quite basic but I loved the decor and cleanliness. The bed was very comfortable. Because of the garden and the trails were muddy in some areas, the hotel offered cleaning station inside and outside of the room, which was very nice. I also liked the lounge area of the hotel, which was beautifully decorated and cozy. The pool area looked very clean and nice also. Hotel staff were very friendly and hospitable. The veggie ceviche was good at the restaurant and I also enjoyed my drinks during a happy hour, which was between 6 and 7pm. Breakfast was included and it was delicious. The decorations throughout the properties were very modern, beautiful, and I enjoyed my stay. It’s close to/from airport.

The trail had some fruits on the ground that were creating some smells and attracting more bugs around it, so my trail walk was a bit unpleasant than expected..

Such beautiful gardens, the rooms were clean, smelled good, so comfortable and so simple. I loved the aesthetic touches, like it was converted from an old villa / house. the food was so good! the staff so kind and welcoming. no tvs in the room, which is perfect for me because I don’t have one at home anyway. but in the little common area above the restaurant, you can loan a dvd from a wide selection they have, and use it on their vcr up there. a thoughtful touch! oh the pool looked very inviting as well, a handful of guests were found hanging poolside all day long.

there is some road noise, but if you have your windows closed with the fan or ac on at night (and I do recommend some foam earplugs if you’re sensitive to it), then you really can’t even notice. everything else about the hotel makes up for it 10x over

The staff are all super friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and had a hair dryer and hangers. They had a safe inside the room and are gated in with a security guard at the entrance and other guards at night around the property so we felt safe. The pool is great and we could swim until 10 and got fresh fruit smoothies by the pool, which my kids and I loved. The staff brought out more towels when they saw all my children without even being asked. Free breakfast was great from 7-9am and they adjusted the menu to accommodate my kids that didn't want veggies in their country potatoes and wanted more of one thing or another. The coffee was good and I was asked if I wanted a refill multiple times. My kids loved this place and wanted to stay longer. Hopefully we will be able to come back again.

Everything! This was our first time in CR and what an amazing place to kick off our vacation. We spent two nights here and it was perfect. Very comfortable room and bed, powerful shower with plenty of hot water, beautiful gardens to wander around, lovely pool area to soak up the rays and relax. There is also a restaurant and bar on-site. The food was excellent, and the cocktails outstanding. Perhaps the best thing about this place though was the staff. So kind and attentive. We really felt cared for. Particular shout out to Oscar and Thomas!

Nothing not to like

The pictures don't do it justice. The grounds are so good to wander around and have a lovely view. The beds are very comfortable, the pool is divine, and the restaurant and bar were great. There's lots of relaxing areas and super close to the airport. This is the ideal place to stay for the start or the end of a holiday. The staff are exceptional and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable - truly outstanding.

The road outside is a little noisy, but easily solved with ear plugs.

Villa San Ignacio sits on a closed property on the road from Alajuela to Poás volcano area. Rooms are scattered around the property in small blocks. The place is quiet, with large mango and bamboo trees. Nice pool and breakfast area. Very friendly staff. Ideal for a short stay if you're in the Poás Valley or if you want to stay near enough to San Jose but away from the city confusion.

The rooms are a bit dated (But still clean and confortable). You'll need to have your own transport to get there as it's dislocated from main points of interest.

We booked this room at the very last minute and got a great deal - $53 with tax including the delicious breakfast and they allowed us to check in early. Our room had 2 single beds. I loved how it was decorated and how they used the space in this handicapped accessible unit. Mattresses were comfortable as were the bedding and towels. Food is very good. The best thing that we ordered was the appetizer with fried plantain and veggies. To. Die. For.!! One of the very best things that we ate in our 10 days in Costa Rica. Curry not worth ordering. (We've just been in India - ha ha ha!) Coffee at breakfast was very good. 2 choices - including bread would be nice. What we didn't realized when I booked this hotel is that this is an expansive property with nature trails. So nice for us as birders - an unexpected end to our amazing time in Costa Rica. Pool was very nice and I loved the huge floaties for cruising around on. Manager and servers were all very friendly. Communication is very fast - I literally made the reservation at the airport, took an Uber to the hotel (15 minutes max) and the woman who met us at the gate to check our reservation already had us on the list and welcomed us early to check into our adorable room.

Shower head was challenging to use. That's all I can think of!

Very well appointed villa, beautiful rooms and communal areas. Arrived quite late and had a delicious meal and cocktail at the bar chatting to the staff, v friendly. Our room was large and spotless, shower was superb. Great water pressure and temperature. Bed was v large and comfy. Gardens were extensive, natural and well kept. Feeder station attracted birds. Loads of hummingbirds feeding on the bushes outside our room. Pool was clean and good size surrounded by nice trees and plants, sun loungers were in sun and shade so you could choose.
