DOMAINE DU GRAND CAUGY

The location is very close to Bayeux (5km)and also close to Arromanches and the beaches. Nevertheless the estate lies by its own, away from any traffic and noise, all by itself in a very peaceful and scenic area surrounded by fields, meadows and the typical hedgerows of Normandy. The buildings have been fully restored and used to be a huge farm with a cheese production. Some works and finetuning is still ongoing, the new owners opened just a month ago.(05/2023) The breakfast was very good and rich with local food. The owners are very helpful and friendly.

Everything was good

Lovely surroundings in the countryside, surrounded by fields with many horses. The lady who met us was very friendly and helpful (especially as the tv didn’t work properly and she needed seek assistance with tuning etc) Breakfast was typically French with plenty to eat.

SatNav was needed to find the property. Some direction signs at the end of the narrow country road would have helped. Apart from the bedroom, garden and breakfast room, there were no other places to sit or relax. Coffee/tea facilities in the room would have been preferable to a communal kettle and cups in the corridor. These are minor points as overall we were very happy with our stay.

The owners were wonderful! They made our stay extremely comfortable. They addressed our needs and worked hard to provide us information and events about the D-Day events from 4 - 7 June. They even helped me find cell phone stores for me to fix my shattered cell phone. Being located in the countryside provided for a deep peaceful sleep during the nights and an enjoyable peace with nature during our days. This has enough room for weddings or other events that require a lot of space. We drove our personal vehicle from the U.K. and was able to drive into the town of Bayeux to take advantage of the nightlife and historical places. I definitely recommend this location for your next stay in Normandy.

Quiet countryside location and very comfortable, clean rooms. Had a great night’s sleep followed by a nice breakfast. It is a great location for exploring nearby towns and Normandy beaches.

Only improvements I can think of would be some nets to cover the food in the breakfast room to keep the flies off. Maybe in the future it would be nice to have some tables/chairs outside, perhaps with a small bar selling regional wines/beers/ciders.

it was beautifully presented, very clean & comfortable and the hostess was very friendly & helpful. it was set in the grounds of a Domaine, with a view of the horses right outside the window. The room was beautifully decorated with nick-nacks etc. The owner was really helpful to us when planning to visit the war grave of my uncle and the new British War Memorial.

The property was set on the outskirts of Bayeux so you couldn’t walk anywhere for a drink or to the shop, you would definitely need a car. This didn’t bother us too much though, as we enjoyed being in the country. The thing that did disappoint us was in the advertisement it said there was a kitchenette there. However the only thing in the room was a kettle and a hairdryer. The owner offered us use of her microwave & fridge situated in the breakfast room prepping area but once breakfast was over the room was locked, so it would have been no use to us. This was quite upsetting as we booked this property on the understanding it had a kitchenette . The advert was very, very misleading and ought to be amended.

Everything! This is a lovely place - a peaceful, countryside setting. The rooms are modern and well equipped. The inner courtyard is beautiful with cushioned seating for guest use. The owners are most welcoming & ensured that we had everything we needed. The breakfast is very good, with a range of breads/pancakes/cereals etc, served in a spacious dining hall.

Very nice room with wonderful bathroom. Very clean and new given the new building. Nice breakfast.

Only comment on the room would be to provide bedside lamps as the wall lights/overhead lights are very bright and not conducive to a peaceful wind down. The sat nav location could be improved as we had difficult finding the property using the information provided.

Breakfast very good. The lady of the house was most helpful and facilitate our requests. We had no transport as we were travelling for short trip and thought we were nearer Bayeaux. However the lady of the house was most obliging and drove us to town every day and to train station. Excellent location Ideal if you have your own transport.

Distance from town as we did not have transport and no public transport.

would have appreciated electric kettle with tea and coffee as property is a distance from town. would have been nice to have yogurt and fruit salad for breakfast . no hairdryer in room but host offered one when requested

The location was beautiful with horses in the fenced area nearby. So nice to be just outside the city. Breakfast was wonderful ! Hostess was very accommodating and able to give us lots of information about restaurants . Lots of brochures and maps available by our room . Wonderful stay
