Hotel Orion Várkert

I was in Budapest for the annual Wagner Days, and spent 8 nights at this hotel. Once I had worked out the easiest routes to get around I really appreciated the location, which is very close to tramlines. It also felt very safe, which is important for a solo female traveller. My room was large, with two single beds, very clean, and tidied up every day. Although it was on the first floor there was practically no street noise, and the air-conditioning worked perfectly. Staff was invariably friendly and helpful.

Breakfast, which was included in the price, was adequate, apart from the rather chewy croissants which I tried on the first day and avoided thereafter. It would be significantly improved by adding a sweet pastry like a pecan or cinnamon roll.

Nice small hotel in a perfect and quiet location close to the downtown, nearby the river and castle. Rooms are simple but clean and well furnished. The staff is helpful, breakfast is nice. Paid parking garage is 200 meter from the hotel however you can park your car for a limited time just in front of the hotel if you need. We recommend Orion Varkert to all travelers who want to enjoy a couple of relaxing and nice days in Budapest. All interesting touristic places and good restaurants are in a walking distance.

Location is quite good. Just a few steps from the lift and the steps to visit the hill and the palace. Also just a block behind the riverside road and the beautiful views and that's where you find a tram stop to move to the Pest side when the weather is angry and cold and you don't wish to walk. The neighbourhood is quiet and there won't be any traffic sounds interrupting your sleep.

Breakfast is poor. And it's not just the fact that there's not big options, but even those limited options are... limited. One needs to ask the girl to get some eggs or beacon as the trails are empty. Hotel staff needs to cheer up a little. We haven't been able to get one smile during our stay.

Rooms comfortable, hotel location good.

Breakfast need reviewing, very poor selection, tea & coffee not hot. Food in general not great. Hotel needs to look at this area and make improvements there. If Hotel has to increase there prices to stay there to cover the cost of improvements in food it could benefit from this. Most guests like a nice breakfast with good selection. Also the restaurant staff could be a little more courteous, we found them not too pleasant and frosty when asked for anything.

Location is OK, close to no 5 bus stop. It’s a short walk to the Varkert galleries where you can either get the funicular or mini train to Buda castle hill. Fisherman’s Bastion was open but Matyas church was closed early for Mass, which was a shame. There was a wine festival at the castle and payment for that was required to access the palace area. Not even sure that the palace and gallery was open and there’s extensive rebuilding going on. Restaurants close by were a bit disappointing in terms of choice and menu apart from the very expensive Felix. Hotel is clean and comfortable but needs a bit of refurbishment. Breakfast was OK and included in the price.

We had stayed at this hotel many times before and always found it to be ideal for our purposes. The location is excellent for most of the major sights of the city, which are in easy walking distance of the hotel. There are a wide range of restaurants and bars nearby, again, in easy walking distance. The hotel is small and comfortable, and the rooms are excellent when taking into account the price, which is great value The breakfast is very good and informal. Transport from and to the airport can be arranged by the hotel, which is very advantageous.

The hotel is in a very handy location for the main areas of Budapest - very close to the Castle area and just across Elizabeth Bridge to the city centre. The hotel is very quiet and also close to many parts of the (very efficient) transport network, with tram and bus stops only a few minutes' walk away. Breakfast was good and set us up well for the day!

The air conditioning wasn't very effective - we had ours set to 5 degrees (i.e. should be ice cold) but it was still very hot, especially at night. The room was a bit dated, but I suppose this is not unexpected in a city such as Budapest. That said, the bathroom was very nice and looked like it had recently been refitted.

All the employees were very friendly and helpful, answered all of our questions during our stay and spoke very good English. The location of the hotel is excellent since it is close to Elisabeth Bridge, the Gellert Hill and other landmarks such as the Buda Castle or Fisherman's Bastion. Also our room was very clean (housekeeping came by every day and tidied our room/bathroom nicely). If given the chance to visit Budapest again we would definitely choose to stay in Orion Hotel.

Good location - quiet but close to transport. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. Overall good value.

Very small bathroom with cramped shower over the bath. Small, thin towels. Breakfast was good, but would benefit from a choice of fresh fruit. Our room was at the back which was quiet, but it was very dark as windows were shaded by big overhanging trees and church opposite.

We liked this hotel a lot, excellent location with a tram stop a few 100m away. The hotel staff were great and always available both night and day, the breakfast was good with plenty of choice (self service). We will not hesitate to book this hotel again.

Nothing really although our room was roadside which is cobbled but not a lot of traffic but was awoken twice in the same week with recycling collection at between 5.30-6.00.
