Hotel Bologna

Owners were very friendly and helpful. We arrived at night and they found a restaurant that was still open. Driving directions were not good and the place is actually down a back alley so it seems a bit sketchy at first. Driving the alley and parking is extremely tight but they guide you in and out once you find the place. No elevator and 4 floors so be prepared to schlep your bags. Cute rooms but no view even from top floor.

Location is sketchy. Very difficult to find at night.

Very helpful and friendly owners, nice rooms and an excellent location next door to the Palazzo Reale and close to the Centro Storico and Piazza Principe railway station.

The staff were immediately welcoming and helpful after a very long journey. The room and bathroom were beautifully appointed and clean. The location is excellent - just off Via Balbi - within an easy 5 minute walking distance of the Stazione del Principe, and other major attractions (Palazzo Reale almost next door, Palazzi Rolli, the ancient port, aquarium, etc). Plenty of bars and cafes to choose from in the immediate vicinity. The hosts went out of their way to help at all times, and were always ready with helpful suggestions for places to see. I will stay there again for sure if I return to Genova,

I must work when away so a slightly larger desk would have been helpful. Travellers with mobility issues may find the steps difficult but the ever graceful hosts were willing to provide me a room on a lower floor if I had wanted it. Two local taxi drivers were unable to precisely locate the hotel using its proper address but it's location is easily identified by signs along Via Balbi. I believe the hosts will address this problem of taxi driver ignorance!

Great location in medieval Genova. Wonderful owner - she suggested everywhere we should visit, marked it on the map, and suggested a great restaurant for dinner. She is very gracious and a perfect host. Room was spotlessly clean and very quiet, especially considering it is centrally located. Comfortable bed.

Be sure to enter hotel from via Balbi - follow via Balbi until you see the hotel sign. Do not go enter through alley from via Di Pre. My GPS had us go by via Di Pre, which was dark and uncomfortable. The hotel is actually in a fine location, across from the university. Lots of stairs, so if that is an issue for you, consider something else.

The room was extremely comfortable. It felt modern yet traditional and had everything we needed - great bathroom, tea and coffee-making facilities and a big comfy bed. Our van was too big for the hotel parking but we parked it 5 minutes away at the Aquarium which felt easy and safe. The hotel staff were extremely helpful - friendly and flexible about our delayed late check in and providing excellent advice on parking and the best place for breakfast. The location is outstanding, right next to the Genoa old town.

Good location overall, close to the old city center and many of the attractions, train station, good connections to the airport. Some of the adjacent streets looked shady, so best to arrive at the hotel via the main street (Via Balbi) The room was quiet, spacious, clean, comfortable bed, a second pillow would have been nice to have. They do not have breakfast available, but there are many cafes nearby, perfect to start your day. No elevator for 4 floors, this was not a problem for us, but it is worth to note this info. Friendly staff, willing to answer all your questions.

We stayed for three nights and following the first night we forgot to hang the "do not disturb" sign on the door handle when we left in the morning, as we don't really need room cleaning, towel changes etc. for such a short stay. Due to this, they indeed cleaned the room, changed the towels (which we had hung up, to use again) and rather re-arranged our stuff in the room and bathroom, which felt a bit strange to me.

This is a lovely hotel in the historic area, adjacent to palaces, museums and university campuses. Given its location, refurbishments would be difficult to do, however the management has refreshed the decor to a very modern look without compromising the historic nature of this hotel. The bathroom we had was fitted with all that could be expected and decorated with a modern touch. The location, off the nearest road for vehicles, gives a sense of how access has been for centuries. The staff members with whom we came into contact were very informative, friendly and accommodating.

Unfortunately, it will probably never be cost effective to install an elevator, or obtain approvals to do so. As such, guests are obliged to move their luggage from the ground floor to that on which they are staying (we were on the third floor) although staff offer to assist.

The room was newly renovated and was super clean. It is also located in the UNESCO world heritage area and is very closed to the city centre. The host were very nice and friendly and also provided extremely good and detailed recommendations about where to go, what walking routes to take and restaurants to dine at. We has a great time in Genova and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

It is slightly unfortunate that the other side of the hotel is located in a dodgy area despite the beauty of it from the main entrance. I would just like the other guests to know that please do not take the longer walking route from the train station that goes near the marina area (~9mins walk) and just take the one closer (~7mins walk). We thought we wanted a scenic route near the marina but ended up on the other side. Apart from that, nothing major - the pillows provided was a bit hard for us to sleep on and we personally prefer softer pillows.

The hotel was in a quiet location a few minutes walk from the station and airport bus stop. No breakfast is served but the Palazzo Reale cafe is a few steps away with good coffee, pastries etc and a garden area. Places to eat and drink nearby and easy walking distance to the main places of interest. The Ascensore Montegalletto is very near and goes up to the Castello d’Albertis which is an interesting, peaceful museum with a nice cafe and views of the city. The hotel room was clean, good shower and all that we needed for a short stay.

No complaints, more beverage choices, milk and biscuits in the room maybe but everything else was fine!
