The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel, Penang

fantastic view of the sea, bridge and the main land. it rained everyday at late afternoon/evening time while we were there and it was amazing to watch lightning strikes above the sea from our room. Good location, although on a hot day it may not be within walking distance to the touristy part of the town, there’s plenty of Grab taxis available that only costs a few Ringgit for a ride to the UNESCO area of the town.

The room was sort of standard size and didn’t feel spacious; and slightly outdated but generally not a major issue. However, the internet connection was not up to standard at all. We constantly fought the WI-FI connection (as well as 4G). The few files that I updated offline for work couldn’t get synchronised onto companies shared drive due to connection. There is a rooftop bar facing one side of the hotel and the live music was on after midnight on Saturday. I was told that the issues had been raised many times but apparently nothing has happened. We were lucky that rooms at the other (quieter but still facing the main road) side was available to change over to.

Room service is on time & food still hot and great. Good covid SOP. Walking distance to a mall, 7E & hawkers & bars. Relaxing roof bar vibe.

Checking in is a bit hatrick even came 30min later. "Some people" forgot how to queue. But good staff members - even Front Desk Manager also serving making the process faster. Door closer need adjustment - morning woke up by door slam by neighbouring rooms.

Near to my work place at Penang

stuck at parking exit for a while on the first morning while going to my work place cause there are cars waiting for their passenger. wish there is a guard to control traffic in morning since the parking are sharing with the night clubs in the same building.

Basically the room was nice n comfortable.

Message passed to reception to fix my sink was not passed. After few hours back to room after dinner, the sink is not fixed. Have to call again and they came but the face of the staff is not welcoming. They solved the sink issue shortly but shockingly he never pour away the dirty water away and left in the thrash bin. Its only later when my wife asked how come there is water in the thrash bin. I have to dispose it by myself.....sigh

Location was excellent. The staff, especially Jolene who was managing the hotel's cafe was exceptionally helpful and friendly when we decided to enjoy the high tea (very delicious n good value). The reception accommodated our requests to have adjoining rooms, n handed out bottles of mineral water each time we requested for them. We felt very welcomed.

Room cleaning was done only on alternate days - not a major issue though. Pillows were old n dirty. Would be great if they could be placed in pillow protectors before the pillow cases.

Love the cleanliness of the rooms and towels. Although our room had a discernible cigarette smoke odour upon checking in, the housekeepers were quick to help freshen up the air. That solved the problem immediately and we were grateful for the prompt response. Front desk was attentive and even followed up to ensure the problem was resolved. Kudos to the team for doing this. At check in, the team member who attended to me was superbly professional and friendly; he was fast and polite, even apologetic about not being able to allocate rooms on the same floor for me and my family. Likewise, checking out was smooth and hassle free.

The disposal slippers could be better. Too flimsy and uncomfortable to wear.

Stayed at room 2012. Hotel's location was central and easy access to KOMTAR, PRANGIN MALL, and 1st AVENUE which are just across the street. Amenities are sufficient; they even provided telekung when I requested one, while sejadah is provided in the room. Staff took care of the delivery from Lala Move while I was out, and booked taxi for airport upon check out. Their ballrooms are pillarless, and their food is nice, could be the potential venue for my next event there. Everything was great and I enjoyed the short stay there.

They forgot to provide towels in my room but delivered those upon request. Just a minor oversight on house keeping part.
