Muthu Raga Madeira Hotel

Did not take breakfast, already knew location. Reception staff helpful but often outnumbered by guests.

I received an email claiming to be from Raga via Booking.com. It looked genuine but claimed they had made a mistake and needed my payment details again, or the booking would be cancelled. l ignored it. No mention of it was made at the hotel, if this is a real scam it should be publicised.

We had breakfast and dinner (half board) which can really be recommended. Everything is well proportioned and there is a lot to choose from. I especially want to highlight the Dinner. A large refrigerator table with small dishes for starters. There were 3-4 main courses to choose from with fish, meat, chicken. In addition to this, fruit salad and other sweets such as cake etc. were always served for dessert. Gold star also to the staff who really had good service!

Possible improvements: The hotel and the dining room are very nice but it lacks that little something extra. Why not have a flower on the reception desk which is welcoming. In the dining room, I would like to see you place a small flower on the tables, dim the lighting in the evening and why not have some music in the background (as it is now, unfortunately it will be a bit of a school canteen)

Excellent value for an extended stay and a superb position both for the views and access to cafes, restaurants, great walks, and shops. Lovely room on 10th floor with sea views and a fair sized balcony. Great room cleaning and regular change of bedding and towels. Nice pool area and seating overlooking the views. Good WiFi.

Unfair to judge as off-season, but our stay coincided with refurbishment of the 'bar' and restaurant, so meals were served in an alternative less attractive area. The bar, as such, was situated out of the hotel at street level and was not open all the time. The pool bar was closed throughout our stay. Parking is very limited; access is steep, and if you leave returning with your hire car too late, you have the dilemma of where you can safely leave it. Staff offer to keep the keys and park for you. Two lifts serve 11 floors, so waiting for these at peak times can be frustrating. These are minor niggles and overall, we enjoyed our stay here very much and would happily return.

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The room had a stunning ocean and pool view, was spacious, well-lit, and equipped with all the necessities. The bathroom was also roomy and impeccably clean. However, our only issue was that despite our request, we were given two single beds instead of a double bed due to the hotel being semi-empty during the off-season. This somewhat marred our overall experience.

Nice location for restaurants and cafes, the parking entrance is to rear of the hotel and limited spaces in the evening, rooms and decor are a little outdated and needs some tidying up, I would say it's more of a *** than **** but it was still pleasant and reasonably priced, if I'd have paid anymore than the discounted amount I paid I'd have been very disappointed but I paid €600 for a week in October which seems reasonable for the service and accommodation experience received.

No tea of coffee making facilities, balcony floor was very gritty and stones were walked back into the room easily from it making walking very uncomfortable, bath was extremely slippery and no anti slip mat supplied

The beds were extra comfy, the room was quite spacious, the balcony had a great view (even though it said the mountain view, we had all - view on mountains, Funchal and ocean). The room service was everyday which was very nice. The location of the hotel is really nice, I love walking so it gives you the opportunity to live near Funchal city center but at the same time far enough to not feel overwhelmed with lots of tourists etc.

View, location and staff of the kitchen area and reception is fantastic. Coffee was good that matters to us. Parking available that is also a must when you rent a a car and your hotel is central. Everything in walking distance.

The beds could be more confi, but could be only my back says this and others like it. Elevator is a bit noisy- this could easily be mitigated with better isolated room doors.

Very small balcony which had a view of a wall of the drive of the hotel so didn't use it. Would rather sit around the pool bar anyway

we were on a room only basis so can not comment on the food .Every single member of staff we had contact with were fantastic ,so helpful and happy ! .It seemed to me that everyone wanted to be there which showed in their work and readiness to assist you . We have stayed in this hotel before and will be going back again ,a good hotel made into a great holiday by lovely staff !!

My room did not include breakfast but I paid extra for it as it was of good value.

The two elevators were small and slow The television did not have an HDMI outlet so my Roku did not work. Very minor things I should add.
