Hotel Ilunion Mérida Palace

The hotel is brilliantly located. Within short walking distance to all ancient monuments, in front of a square filled with restaurants (but it's not noisy inside the rooms). And the hotel itself looks wonderful, very medieval. The small swimming pool is a brilliant addition, esp in the afternoon when the heat wave comes. The staff is very helpful and can speak English (which we've noticed is unfortunately VERY RARE in Mérida...). The valet parking is very comfortable as well. Breakfast is really good, lot's to choose from, just missing some fresh vegetables. Overall a great stay and highly recommended!

The air conditioning system is maybe a bit old and does not work theeee best. It does work, but just not too good.

We had booked 2 rooms 4 people, we were travelling round a few places in Spain before we reached Merida , but one of the couples unfortunately had bad news her father had been taken into intensive care the night before we left for our trip and was dying so obviously they could not make it, we informed all the hotels we were visiting and all were very understanding and wavered all charges exept Llunion Meida Palace, there reply was coldly you still have to pay full price as thats our policy we explained this again when we arrived and was abruptly told the same thing we asked to see the manager but he wasn't there. I found there cold and unconcerned attitude very sad and would never use this hotel again.

The hotel was located in an envy location next to the plaza in the heart of the historic center and walk to most places. Even a walk distance -for those that like to walk through town- of ~2 miles to the Roman Amphitheater. The area is very secure and we felt safe walking all the time. The room was spectacular to say the least, overlooking the plaza, clean, secure and so beautiful. The bathroom shower is tight, but been a historic palace, renovations may be limited to change the architectural look of the place...The restaurant food is excellent/quality, and no too pricey for the location. The hotel front staff/ guest, restaurant where very good and attentive. Will not hesitated to stay here again, but be aware that until the access by car to the hotel is done the GPS may take you to roads that are closed and it will be an inconvenience and challenge to navigate. To save time/ $$- there's a card you can buy (ask the front desk) that gives you access to ~7 different historical sites.

Not the Hotel fault BUT the hotel is located on the historic center AND there was construction on the area and some roads closed to traffic/blocked- as of May 2023, which made getting to the hotel a nightmare. We ended up going to a public parking nearby and taking our luggage to the hotel ourselves 3/4 mile up. The hotel staff was very sorry for the situation. The hotel does NOT have on site parking, an attendant takes your car to the parking and bring it back. Did hear some guest frustrated by the wait of 30+ minutes to get their car back....

This hotel is in a fantastic location for exploring the city, facing onto the main plaza. A wonderful historical building with plenty of atmosphere. The room was spacious, clean and the bed really comfortable. The bathroom was equally spacious with a great shower. The staff were helpful and efficient (exemplified in the valet parking service which, despite my concerns, was flawless). There was a good choice for breakfast. Oh, and when we arrived, the city was in the midst of its Roman Festival which took us by surprise - if we'd known, we'd have packed a couple of togas!

The foyer of the hotel is open and inviting and serves as the main central focus for the bar and the restaurant. The room was large with two single beds pushed together to form a double. The bathroom was large and well appointed. The bathroom lovely. The buffet breakfast was extensive and perfectly acceptable. The location of the hotel is brilliant for visiting the numerous Roman ruins, many of which are world class.

It was unfortunate that the swimming pool was not available. Somehow the hotel, just didn't 'finish the job'. I had to look for someone to serve me at the bar. Also, there was a table which offered free water in the reception. A lovely thought, but I noticed later in the day that the bottles were simply left empty and not replaced. This occurred on two days - a cheap trick?

Welcoming capable staff. Room size and location were both great. Room was also quiet and well equipped. Parking is right in front of the hotel and they couldn't have been more helpful .

Bar/ restaurant area lacks soul or ambience. It feels chain hotel rather than maximising on its super architecture and location. Opportunity wasted really as it could quite easily be transformed into a destination cocktail bar and gastro tapas. It doesn't appear there would be much competition and the location direct on the plaza is truly superb.

Location in the main square was very good Staff very helpful and friendly Beds very comfortable Breakfast selection very good - and the only hotel I have come across with a conveyor belt toaster that actually works !!

Would have preferred a shower cubicle rather than over bath configuration Bar in evening - the main bar area is well designed , but on a practical level it needs two sets of doors on entrance as each time a person came in there was a cold draught of air that hit you. (Maybe not an issue in summertime though !) Just as a suggestion - Would also recommend use of some screening panels in bar area to make more comfortable areas with sofas to relax with friends to have drinks.

Staff was very friendly, the rooms were great. TV was a little old, bit sluggish, and there could be other channels other than Spanish channels. The breakfast was good, varied, and the staff there friendly, but perhaps would expect a little more from a 5 stars hotel.

Gym and pool are there but seems to be just to tick the boxes of a 5 star hotel. The pool is funnily small, but great in a summer day to wet your bottoms a bit. However, not very many people can be there at the same time.

This hotel was perfect. It's in a beautiful, well-kept historic building right opposite the really pretty main square. The reception area was awesome - really impressively decorated - and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. My room was just outstanding - bright, clean, large, such stylish decor, and very quiet with a lovely outlook from its windows. It had a kettle and tea and coffee, and a big comfy bed and a superb large, well decorated bathroom. Also the breakfast was really good with proper old-school waiters who actually care about giving a good service. The location is very central with less than a few minutes walk of nice cafes, restaurants, shops and several ancient monuments and the river. Finally the room was amazing value for money.

Nothing at all - everything about the hotel was just superb

First of all - we would like to say good words about Staff.. All of them helped us .. Receptionists , valet parking helpers, barmen... so, we are very grateful to the hotel staff. Location is also great - just in the central Plaza. Perfect ! So many good restaurants around in walking distance and short ways to famous Roman Theatre, Roman Bridge, "Acueducto", Alcazaba and etc... We could see all. Special thanks to the valet parking service guys - they help to manage to recover pinched wheel of my car at the check-out time.. We also enjoyed comfortable "late" check-out at very reasonable price. Breakfast was also very nice... as it should be in 5* hotel.

What we didn't like: 1) Unfortunately, despite of the fact of the early booking and payment 14 days in advance - we received one of the smallest room 313 under the roof... not those 25 sq. meters.. room was not only small but even without double door "hallway" (that most of the hotels room have, according to the floor plan). So we "enjoyed" noise from the Lobby there were a lot of people quite loudly celebration their week-end. It would not be a problem if we would have good room. but.. we were unlucky to get Room 313. 2) Rather cold lobby... strange but it was too "fresh" in Lobby... (and as I mentioned above - rather noisy).
