Parador de Santillana Gil Blas

Staying in such a historical building was wonderful. The town square is right next door and it is a stunning place. The hotel is full of old panels and paintings, but there are also cosy and more modern looking public rooms to watch TV and just loll. The breakfast was good but lacking in fruit. Breakfast in this part of Spain involves a lot of stodge so if you're a coeliac, beware! Oh and if you think you can see the caves of Altamira, think again. Only 250 people are allowed in a year and you have to join a waiting list. We wanted to go to the Altamira museum but that was also booked up in advance. But santillana is a lovely place to mooch around.

The staff in the hotel were a bit stressed and abrupt. Not all of them, mainly the waiting staff in the restaurant. It was also impossible to get a drink from the bar as I think they were short staffed. It's not a very welcoming hotel. Perhaps because it's too big and used to being full, so they don't need to try.

Love this hotel in the centre of Santillana. We stopped off before catching the ferry the next day, so handy for Santander. It is a smaller Parador which I prefer. Very friendly service throughout. Lovely old building and fabulous landing where the bedrooms on first floor leed off. All stylised in keeping with this lovely old building. Food I felt was better than some of the other Paradores we stayed at on our trip. Whilst it doesn't advertise car charging, we were able to charge our electric car in the garage there.

Tea/coffee making facilities are never offered in Paradores (or in those I have stayed) which is a let done. Yes they have mini bars, but it lacks this sevice, which is a great shame for me and does influence my future bookings of Paradors

The location was SPECTACULAR !! They weren’t able to accomodate rooms next to each other but they upgraded one of the rooms for the same price and we were stull on the same hallway. The parador was absolutely lovely, only to be outdone by the staff : Sol, Javi and Jose. They were consummate professionals. The housekeeping room service had the room picked up and tidy as though it was being turned over for a new client. The room was IMPECCABLY clean

I can’t think of anything I didn’t like !

This is the high end of accommodation in Santillana del Mar. Situated centrally and it has parking. The restaurant looked a bit stuffy (though i'm sure the food was fabulous).Did not have the Euro 20 breakfast buffet. Considering the price I paid for the room I thought charging for the bottle of water left in the room was a bit mean. otherwise, no complaints. The room and staff were lovely

We have now stayed here many times. We like it more and more each time we stay. Beautiful town, beautiful building, gorgeous rooms (we had a suite) and very friendly staff.

Finding the parador through the narrow, cobbled streets. Despite having been here many times we always take the wrong streets and end up getting lost. SatNavs don't help! Signposting from the main road through the streets of the old town would be very helpful.

The Parador is so beautiful ! You feel like you are in a medieval palace. The rooms are very good size and comfortable and the town is so small that any location is a good location . Service was really nice !

They control the temperature of the building and at night they turn the heater on which can get too warm. However, we told the hotel manager and he was so nice and even gave us an invitation to the buffet breakfast for the inconvenience. Service was great!

A really old building in a great location that has been lovingly converted to a comfortable hotel with all of the mod cons: running water, flushing toilet, electricity and not forgetting air-conditioning and wifi :) Friendly, helpful staff and a nice breakfast. A great shame that our stay was so short and rushed.

Having to leave

So nice I extended an extra night! A beautiful parador in the centre of a lovely traditional town. Delicious breakfast and very clean rooms. Really friendly staff who couldn’t do enough to make sure I had everything I needed. It’s a lovingly restored property and I really enjoyed the communal sitting areas.

Centrally located in town. The decor and furnishings were superb. We had a evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent although thought breakfast at €20pp was a bit steep so went to Comillas where we had breakfast by the sea.

Nothing really

Breakfast was superb. They still served a buffet but during these pandemic times you get your own personal serving tongs so you are not touching serving cutlery used by others. Genius! Wish all hotels did this. Room was comfortable. Beautiful terrace at the back of the hotel with comfortable seating, very pleasant. Staff were very nice and welcoming.

Nothing, it was one of the best paraders we have stayed in thus far
