The staff is committed to their guests. My AC did not work my first night and the hotel was full so I was unsure how the situation would be resolved. The hotel replaced my AC. The staff will also help you with transportation and with tours. The breakfast is excellent. You can sit at a table looking over the beach. The hotel beach adjoins a public beach. The hotel has employees who ensure that hotel guests are not disturbed by ball games on the public beach. The cleaning ladies are friendly and thorough. The Apartments are a couple of blocks from the hotel which gives you the opportunity to engage with some of the locals. The route is well-lit so I felt safe. I bonded with the Simba Cat Rescue folks and talked to the cats daily and purchased food for them. The location is quieter than the main hotel. The staff will help you with luggage and have an area to store it if your departure is after check out. My room had a balcony looking out the back with a distant view of the courtyard.

The Apartments are no longer apartments, but rooms. There is a studio apartment on the top floor. Only 2 rooms overlook the courtyard which does not belong to the hotel. There are no mosquito nets in the rooms, but the staff does spray. However, I did get bitten. The hotel has a couple other properties that are not on Booking.com which I would have liked to have known about. The hotel does not serve alcohol out of respect for their Moslem employees. If wine with your dinner is important to you there are options elsewhere. Not disclosed on Booking.com is the fact that the government charges $5 a day for infrastructure. I have no problem with this fee as the need is obvious. I include these comments as information, they are not complaints. The listing on Booking.com needs to be updated.

breakfast was good with a good choice including eggs, waffles and pancakes to order. despite being in town the hotel has its own beach which is very rare for the city and includes a drink and snack bar area. We stayed in the B and B apartments about 1 minute stroll from the main hotel which included a kitchen with a washing machine and balconies in the kitchen and in each room. The facilities were perfect for our family and the hotel was super close to all the main sites. We took a walking tour with a lovely man called Habib booked through the hotel but he is available direct on +255 773584777 for a better price. We also used the taxi and tour service of Bash who is a wonderfully entertaining guy from the taxi rank outside the hotel. He is available for pre-book on +255 773 420 946. I would certainly recommend the walking tour and the slavery museum.

I would suggest that if you have a delicate stomach then you avoid food at the night-market. Either way, that you remember to bring immodium+ and electrolytes with you so your holiday is not spoiled when parts of you (lets say) lose their nerve.

This hotel is amazing, the staff are so welcoming and friendly 5* given for this and the cleanliness, the lovely manager is always present and at breakfast time he comes to every table to greet you and check everything is fine. The hotel is a beautiful old heritage building with antique furniture and artifacts everywhere, It's very central for walking to all the main places of interest including Freddie Mercury's museum is only a 2 min walk. As a solo female traveller it is completely safe to walk around the town at night.

Nothing everything was perfect.

- perfect location in the historical centre - all places of interest in a walking distance - many good cafes + restaurants around - right next to the port - many possibilities of boat trips (e.g. Prison Island) - breakfasts - great choice, fresh eggs/waffles/crepes + nice kitchen staff

- beach - very small, no privacy, trash, not possible to swim due to busy traffic - unwilingness of some staff (big hotel, everyone was very busy) - wifi not working - cats everywhere

excellent location, quiet, clean and comfortable room. Good breakfast. previous reviews being negative about being located in an alleyway, if that’s an issue maybe Stone Town isn’t for you, since it’s mainly alleyways! It was lovely and quiet away from the main road

We stayed in the apartments a short walk away from the main hotel. The room was a little basic with an awful view but we picked the apartment room as it was larger to accommodate our scuba diving equipment. The hotel itself was excellent, with friendly staff, lovely pool are and right on the beachfront. The self service breakfasts were excellent and the food we ordered a couple of times from the bar was great, just a little slow but that seems to be Zanzibar "Pole Pole" (slowly, slowly) in general. The property is in a great location to explore Stone Town.

The walk to the apartments but that was our choice. Nothing else.

Very good and central location, 3 pools and nice restaurant on the beach. Good breakfast with lot of choices. Nice place to enjoy the sunset. Very professional receptionists speaking very good English.

If we we checked in then actually we did not get the room in the main building but in the building block over the street. All hotel services were sill included but it was not that comfortable to use them, especially when using pool and coming back with wet swimming suit. Lot of noise in the night in the corridors, I was woke up very often. No control over the children in the main pool, they are jumping in and out and screaming loudly.

The location is great - by the beach and just near Stone town and the night food market. We stayed in an apartment but could use all hotel facilities. Very clean and the staff is very nice and helpful. They have a storage room for the luggage and they even let us use the hotel pool and shower after check-out time, so we can rest and prepare ourselves before our flight.

Shower had no hot water at all. It was late in the evening so we didn't want to bother. We told the supervisor and he said they will fix it. The shower we took before our flight was great.

The place was very clean and the staff extremely helpful. It’s no problem to walk down the alley to the hotel to swim and eat breakfast. It’s vey safe in Zanzibar. The breakfast buffet has a fantastic variety and sitting out on the terrace to eat is lovely, watching the boats and all the beach activity. Tembo Hotel is really the best place to stay in Stone Town. Have them send a taxi to the airport for you, it’s a flat rate, no problems and all the taxis are marked and official so no worries. Our driver Abdul then took us on several other drives and was careful and interesting to talk to.

The annexe is down a short alley from the main hotel. There is no elevator and a lot of stairs if you stay on the 3rd floor as we did. The rooms are spacious, but not much in there - had to bring a chair in off the balcony just to put our clothes on! So, clean but sparse.
