Hotel Colombo

The exterior of the hotel looks amazing. You feel like you are sleeping in the Capitol building. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great breakfast spread. Large room with seating area. Nice view from our room towards the city. Easy parking next to the entrance.

The hotel profiles itself as a 5* hotel, but that is a joke. Once you enter the building you see a small and dated front desk. The whole building has an empty feel about it and it certainly does not exude luxury. The room was very hot and the staff never got the airconditioning to work properly. There is a large empty space around the hotel, but no terrace or outdoor seating. There is no swimming pool. The dining room/bar looks dated and a bit gloomy. It should be about a 10 minute walk to the center, but a huge fenced off construction site between the hotel and the center poses an annoying obstacle. It actually cuts the pedestrian promenade into two parts.

The staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. The hotel really looks incredible, our room was massive, shower was amazing, and we had such a good nights sleep. There were a couple of things that were slightly disappointing, but all in all we had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend!

we picked this hotel due to its spa facilities, pool and gym, only to find out that the gym was in the corridor of one of the floors and out in the open, and the spa had to be paid for, the pool was cold all of the time, and we found a red worm in one of the foot baths which put us off. This was a real shame as we were really looking forward to it, and it looks so lovely! the breakfast also wasn’t the worst, but wasn’t the best either. The bread was a bit stale and so were some of the pastry items out.

Our stay at Hotel Colombo was excellent. There are so many great reasons to stay here. Our room was amazing. The beds were so comfortable. There is heating and air con. great curtains for sleeping in! Great TV channels, showing loads of English speaking films to get lost in while relaxing. The bathroom was lovely - all marble with a great shower. The rooms and the whole hotel was so clean. absolutely spotless! The SPA is great. Sauna, hot tub, salt relaxation room, steam room, swimming pool and a full list of treatments. The restaurant part was great. AMAZING breakfasts with a good selection of foods to choose from(cheese, eggs, meats, fruits, cereals, cakes, juices and gluten free alternatives). The chef made us the most wonderful omelettes. The coffee was delicious too! The building itself is opulent and beautiful! Wide corridors, beautifully carpeted, chandeliers, marble. It used to be the university and it looks like the White House with columns and a dome. We were able to walk up there and view berat! Now here is the best bit. The staff!!! Everyone was so friendly and kind and accommodating. I am a light sleeper and needed a quieter room and we were offered 2 lovely rooms straight away. Everyone is so happy to help us. The restaurant staff, the reception staff, the housekeeping staff. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL FOUR DAYS!!!

Everything was great!

We felt royal living in Hotel Colombo as the rooms were spacious and the building I general is very unique! The bed and the pillows are super comfortable and we loved having big window's that enlightened the room very nicely. The location is perfect. The center is in walkable distance and you can see the Hotel from every angel of the city. There are parking spaces in front of the hotel.

The breakfast somehow did not reflect a 5 star quality. We expected breakfast a la carte as shown in the German TV documentary called Galileo. After a sunny day exploring Berat we were looking forward to take a bath in the inside pool. The temperature was perfect, although the water did seem as if it wasn't constantly filtered. Also we missed lights in the pool as the room is in the basement and you can't really see clearly in the water. Also it was shallow in my opinion.

The place is huge. My room was huge. Had a late supper, and it was quite good, as was the service. The lifts were fast, too. Some might not think this a plus, but at night the upstairs halls give off a Stephen King, Overlook vibe. Long halls and for some reason the staff left a few guest rooms open all night. I kept expecting the crazy tub lady from the Shining to spring from one and follow me to my room.

Well, the pool was really a small spa pool. Its size was ok for 2 people to take laps, but there was only room for two to use the bench by the pool. But they were building a large outdoor pool, though the construction messed with the parking a bit. Really, I hope this does not deter anyone from staying. It was way cool and very comfortable.

Spacious and beautiful rooms and lobby, very friendly staff. Great breakfast buffet with lots of things to choose from + a pool table right outside our room. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

The hotel is located 20 min by foot from the old town in a not so cute part of town. Around the hotel they were doing a lot of construction (in a couple of years it’s probably a nice area as well) so the view wasn’t fantastic. The “gym” consisted of 4 machines of which 2 were broken, the pool was also quite small and we sadly couldn’t use the Jacuzzi because it was cleaned for several hours. We expected a bit more from the gym and pool areas.

The Grandness of the place, its simply amazing howe big this place is, looks like the Whitehouse. The rooms are decent size clean and have all the modern facilities needed. The location is pretty central Berat, and you have access to everything at walking distance. recommend you don't take a taxi and just walk and explore. The main receptionist forgive me if I have got your name wrong (Marcia) she was absolutely fantastic she catered for us in every way, we were 8 travelling with small children and even though we didn't book she managed to arrange for connecting rooms for the kids with parents and cater for us all on the same floor. Thank you, your service was really appreciated. Berat castle is well worth a trek, steep walk up which can take anything between 15 to 30 mins uphill. Take a taxi if u can up and walk down. You will be out of breath walking up :) We paid 7000 LEK for a taxi via hotel to Tirana.

This place would have gotten a 10 as its stunning, however a couple of things let it down, the breakfast variety was really poo for a hotel of such grandness the breakfast needed to be matched. To use the indoor pool, you had to pay 15 EURO per person extra which wasn't even heated which gave you access to the steam/sauna etc. This should be part of the hotel reservation to be able to use the in-house facilities, I can understand if you're booking a message or pampering session but to use the basics defo a no no.

Shockingly huge hotel! It used to be a university. Large rooms! Great food! I've never paid so little for so much. It looks like a capital building. 10 minute walking distance to town. Walk through the old town to get to the bridge not the main road. I would prefer this hotel than others in the middle of town. TIP: Have sunset dinner at the old castle overlooking the town. Check out Zonja Gjene Restaurant across the street from the bridge. It is open when most restaurants are closed and food is straight out of their personal garden!

It is almost impossible to describe the warm welcome, the enormity of the hotel and the room, the deliciousness of the food. I had the BEST, most fresh Greek salad; too, it must be fig season because I had the sweetest, juiciest, greatest fig ever (I'm not a meat eater and for those of you who think it's hard to mess up a salad, well, you would be wrong). The room was spacious, clean, comfortable. The bed, linens, pillows are just the way I love them: clean, crisp and fluffy. Robe, slippers, wifi - all of it. The employees: I could not feel more welcome. It's always, always about the people for me.

I feel like I must say something here otherwise I sound fake, so, digging deep: the spa wasn't open. I know, I know: it's dumb, but I must mention something.

The location close to the main attractions and in a flat area with private parking was great. Surroundings could be better though as theres a lot of construction around and some areas in the neighbourghood require better maintenance. Good size of the bathroom, amenities ok and plenty of options in the breakfast.

I did not like that you need to pay additional fees to use the pool and spa. It is rare to see this in a 5 stars hotel. Missing orange juice in the breakfast.
