Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection By Hilton

I love the Gran in San Jose especially since the staff go out of their way to help with any requests or questions. The facilities are beautiful and the rooms are extremely cosy and welcoming. Johanna, the manager, always goes above and beyond to help make my stay wonderful. The clerks, Jason and Jorge were also very helpful. Jason always greeted me with a very friendly smile. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the bellman who took the time to help me when I was having internet issues due to my own personal devices and even asked if I wanted a different room to see if that would help. Oscar in the restaurant is also wonderful as were the other restaurant staff. Highly, highly recommend this hotel.

I loved everything.

This hotel is as grand as its name. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to most attractions. The national theater is across the square and is a must see, take the tour if possible. From the time you enter this hotel you are take into a beautiful mix of old world and modern elegance. The hotel is beautifully decorated, designed and importantly very clean. I stayed on the 4th floor, JFK had stayed on this floor and some of the exhibits from his visit are there on display. The elevator is glass and need a key card for use, access is restricted for safety. Room- the room was spacious, clean, comfortable and elegant with plush carpeting. I had a street view, and there were double windows which kept out the noise. The bathroom was large, modern and I enjoyed the rainfall shower. The 5th floor dining room had floor to ceiling windows with excellent views of the city from different angles. The breakfast buffet was large with many options and was included with my stay. All of the staff I met were friendly, helpful and professional and definitely are a plus. However I would love to give a special thank you to Anthony, the bellman who was so welcoming, kind and helpful. You are an asset to the hotel and I hope they are aware. This trip was to uplift my spirits after the pandemic and thanks for helping. This is my first stay in the Curio collection and it definitely will not be my last. Thanks again to the staff and management for this gem in San Jose. I highly recommend this hotel.

Rooms were plenty spacious and you could not ask for a more central location. We were only in San Jose for a day but we were able to walk to see everything. Also the breakfast was UNREAL - so good and so many options. We also had a drink at their bar after are long flight. The staff was very welcoming and nice. It’s was a great start to our Costa Rica trip and even though we were there for only one night, the hotel left a really welcoming impression.

Nothing

The facilities are really beautiful. I am not sure how old/new this place is but the rooms appeared new and modern. Lighting was fantastic. Rainshower!! Beds were super comfortable. Staff were so welcoming; maybe it's Costa Rica because everyone was warm and receptive. The breakfast was varied and extremely fresh. Had traditional local food as well as continental American spread. Dinner was pretty good and reasonably priced.

The lobby is aboveground and very confusing. Stupid point to nitpick; but I was confused and went up-and-down when the tour operator said he'll be waiting in the lobby but he was waiting on the ground-level. Delays all around.

Hotel was very modern and yet had a cosy feel. Our room was large with plenty of room for our family of four. The restaurant area was well laid out and light and airy. The staff were very friendly and helpful in recommending nearby restaurants. We only stayed one night as had to leave for the rest of our trip but I wish we could have stayed longer. Would defo recommend this hotel, it’s really good value for money.

There’s nothing I can think of

Amazing breakfast. Please make sure to try to french toast! Wonderful quality rooms, comfortable beds. Just what you would expect from a Hilton hotel. I had very low expectations of San Jose and so was pleasantly surprised by the two days that we spent walking around. We walked to the Central Market and ate there (try to go on the Pedestrian walkways to get there), we browsed lots of cool shops, we enjoyed the National Museum. We went to the Jazz Cafe for music and it was amazingly simple to get around using Uber.

We were terribly disappointed that there was no pool. Sigh.

The hotel location is right in the middle of the city, giving easy walking access to some great barrios and museums. The staff was incredible! (They even somehow found us wandering in the street looking for the entrance.) everything felt somehow modern and historical at the same time. The included breakfast covered everything you could possibly want, and came with an amazing view over the city. The bellhop team was incredibly helpful from the welcome to the farewell.

it doesn’t have a pool.

We stayed here for one night before my boyfriend left to SJO airport and we absolutely loved it!! Breakfast was amazing, lots of options to choose from, from the classic Gallo pinto to smoked salmon. Friendly staff always willing to help. P.S: the city view room we got had the most beautiful view of the national theatre, an amazing historic building, highly recommend!

They do offer parking, however it is a few blocks away from the hotel, we arrived past 10pm after a long drive and there was no valet parking at the time (it’s offered from 6am-10pm) so we had to drive to the parking lot that’s a few blocks away and then walk back to the hotel through dark, sketchy streets. The doorman walks with you but still doesn’t feel 100% safe and definitely not convenient so I wouldn’t recommend coming to this hotel with a car.

The location of the hotel is amazing. Breakfast provided in variety including local food and lots of fruits. The staffs are very kind and supportive. The restaurant has great view. Clean and wide rooms. A/C works well. The airport shuttle service and COVID test on site were very helpful.

As a business trip we needed the detailed invoices for our stay, but it was difficult to get proper one. The staff was kind enough to follow up and provide the documents in the end.
