The staff were incredibly accommodating, warm and welcoming! The breakfast was amazing I am going to miss it a lot. The setting of the hotel was absolutely stunning, so unique. The suite room we had was so beautiful and through the glass doors it opened up to an an incredible view of Matera, which only got more beautiful into the evening. Was a wonderful relaxing stay we will miss it very much!

There was only two tiny faults but nothing that neither of us would particularly complain about. The bed I’m room was lovely but quite hard. This may be perfect for some however and we definitely slept well. Would just have been even better to have a cushier bed and potentially an extra blanket as in the colder months it might have been useful.

Stunning character accomodation in cave rooms in one of the Matera Sassi. The rooms were atmospheric, spacious and comfortable. The hotel is located just meters from many lovely restaurants and we were provided with a list of recipes. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choices including fruit, cereal, yoghurt, pastries, cold cuts and also a small selection of hot food. The staff were very friendly, they organised a taxi from the train station for us. We enjoyed a welcome drink on arrival at the hotel and staff explained some of the details of the room. We also availed ourselves of a wine tasting which was wonderful. We tasted 5 wines and also tasted some typical small antipasto foods from the area. We thought it was very good value.

A once in a lifetime-style experience, for a reasonable price as you definitely get your moneys worth! From the second we arrived we were made to feel special, with wine on arrival, baggage taken to our room and a full introduction to the hotel, the facilities, etc. The breakfast which was included was a really high standard, and on our day of check-out we needed to depart before breakfast so they delivered a box of it in advance to our room so that we didn’t miss out! All in all, from the style, location and hospitality, our stay here will be something we remember for years to come & hope to experience again! Any issues, questions or queries were responded to or resolved in a very timely manner (which is a rarity for such a short stay in most places). Thank you to all the team!

On arrival we were advised that the air-conditioning wasn’t working and they were trying to get it fixed as soon as possible (which they did by the next day, note our arrival date was a Sunday so very difficult to resolve any earlier). The keys to the room where a little problematic as you had to be really precise - but nothing detrimental!

Great location, very good breakfast in a beautiful location. Wonderful staff and everything was clean and comfortable.

Maybe our expectations were too high, but we found the room itself a little disappointing. The shower was in between the bedroom and rest of the bathroom (it wasn’t enclosed in glass and didn’t have a door), so if someone had a shower the floor was wet for hours (if you wanted to use the sink or toilet later). We recognize this was built in a cave and that might have impacted the design, but the whole shower/bathroom situation was strange given how expensive the rates are and how otherwise luxurious the hotel is.

This place is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed in. The attention to detail is remarkable. It is romantic, comfortable, classy and one of the most unique places we have ever stayed. The amenities are first class, quality bathroom products, bedding, and lighting. The room is cool, smelt divine and was super private and sound proof. Staying in Matera at night is a remarkable experience, as night falls the city lights up. The colours of the buildings change and the city quietness. So beautiful. The outdoor seating is a great spot for a pre dinner drink and to watch the sun set. The breakfast is beautifully presented and offers a great variety. Would recommend for anyone wanting a unique and romantic experience.

Beautiful accommodation and excellent staff. My wife twisted her knee going down a step and one of the staff immediately got her some ice to help with the pain. I also needed to adjust my car rental reservation and the staff was very helpful and allowed me to make several phone calls to sort it out. Breakfast was outstanding, huge variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, baked goods, excellent coffee and more. The dining area itself is also lovely. There were also several restaurants nearby and easy access to the main road.

We were disappointed that our room was not part of the main property. We had to walk a short distance to another street where the larger unit was located. We were 4 people (myself, my wife and 2 teenagers) and the main building only accommodates rooms for 2 guests. We also had some ants in our room, but given the location, it is understandable. It was also quite humid in the room, but they had dehumidifiers running to help. Again, this is simply a function of the location. Lastly, we were disappointed with the bathroom, particularly the shower. There was some mold in the shower and it was very difficult to regulate the temperature of the water. Given the cost of the room, the bathroom was not up to par.

Wow! This place was stunning! The reception area and breakfast room were gorgeous! I wish I had taken a photo of the breakfast area and options, as they were fabulous! Staff was friendly and very helpful! We were offered a delicious welcome glass of wine when we arrived and information about the festival happening that night. Our room! Wow! In a cave and very well appointed….just gorgeous! Bed was comfortable and robes and slippers were available. The slippers were great for walking on the stone floors. The shower is not private at all so I wouldn’t recommend our specific room to those who aren’t comfortable together!

We loved it all!

We loved pretty much everything about our stay here. Matera is magical on it's own, but this place made it just that bit better! In a great location, close to everything you need with everything else a short walk away. The room and hotel itself is beautiful, we had an amazing freestanding bath tub in the middle of our cave room and the bathroom is a separate and walled off corner of the cave - which was a nice surprise too. We cannot fault the staff or the service we received here, we were made to feel so special. We also did the wine tasting add on which we can really recommend - Guiseppe the sommelier was so knowledgeable and had a real passion for their winery, the wine was also LOVELY which was only matched by the local food which was also brought out to compliment it. Would have stayed for longer if we could - highlight stay of our trip.

The breakfast could offer a hot option, but there are loads of options nearby if you want that anyway, so not a major issue. Figure out the parking situation before arriving - get a taxi from the parking to the hotel, don't try to walk (like us!).

The hotel is in a lovely location in the old part of the town central to all the main sights and close to a good range of restaurants. The public rooms of the hotel are within large caves which are beautifully presented with atmospheric lighting. The bedroom we had was contained within a large vaulted chamber with 3 windows and a small balcony with a view over the town. The whole property is wonderfully atmospheric and beautifully designed with great attention to detail. It is a stylish combination of the ancient and the modern. The staff were excellent and helpful. We had a wine tasting session one afternoon with a selection of the winery’s excellent wines and local foods. it was very well presented and good fun. It is not possible to reach the property by car but there are various options involving parking outside the traffic limited zone with transport to the hotel.

Fabulous accommodation, the room was exceptional, beautiful inside and very clean with all amenities we needed. The breakfast was fantastic, lots of options and particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit selection. Palazzotto was in a lovely location within the Matera Sassi and the staff were predominantly very friendly and helpful.

There wasn't really much to fault. A hotel organised shuttle service to and from the accommodation would have been handy given that it is in the Sassi, but can be easy enough to arrange yourself via the secure parking garages outside the Sassi.
