Fukuoka Guesthouse HIVE

I loved how affordable the room was and how I was able to feel safer in a female dormitory. They kept everything clean as well. The staff was super nice and you meet new people just getting ready in the morning. I had no issues when it came to sharing a space. However, I would suggest showering midday to avoid the rush at night.

If you are a light sleeper request a top bunk. When people move in their sleep you can hear everything. If you are a heavy sleeper it won't be a problem! Also, I didn't dislike this but lights are out at 10 PM so you should keep that in mind when getting ready for bed.

The location was perfect as it was located right next to a subway station and just a short walk from Hakata Station and Tenjin area. There were also many famous shrines and temples located right around the corner. The staff were also friendly and fun to talk with. They helped give me some ideas for dinner when I was really troubled over where to go. I wasn't expecting them to help me as much as they did so I really appreciated it. The bed was comfortable and even though there were times where every bed in the room was full, I never had any issues with other guests. There was always plenty of space at the mirror in the morning to get ready and I never had to wait to use the shower. The bar menu as looked interesting but I never got a chance to try it. Maybe next time!

You get what you pay for and I understand that it's a hostel but the sleeping area did feel a bit cramped. I wouldn't reccomend coming here if you have a large amount of luggage you are hauling around as there isn't much space for it. Changing clothes, repacking suitcases, and doing any kind of activity besides sleeping was a bit of a hassel.

I really liked how close the hostel is to the subway and buses. It was easy to find once I got the location dialed in. It was my second stay, and I was impressed with the staff, friendliness, convenience, and restful sleep in my cozy enclosed bunk bed. From Fukuoka airport, take the free Airport Shuttle-Meinohama to the South bus stop for the subway. When you arrive at Gion Subway, get yourself a ticket for Gofukumachi Station. Then change lines after 4 stops on the orange line to the blue line to Nakasu-Kawabata and ride one stop Gofukumachi and take Exit 5. You will see an escalator, a grocery store, and shopping; make a right, go around the corner, and you will see the 'entrance to Exit 5 and a bus stop. Go to the first street and make a right; walk about 4-6 blocks on the left past the Green Apartments. It is tucked away!

Everything was great!

Very good location, walking distance to the main touristic areas of the city and well-placed for bus and train stations. Hostel itself had a good vibe and the common area was especially good for meeting other travelers. Staff were helpful and friendly, kindly allowing us to store our luggage after check-out as we had a late flight.

Few showers and bathrooms for the amount of rooms which meant we often had to wait until one was free. This is only due to to the nature of the building of course and the hostel was fully-booked when we were there so it's to be expected!

I liked " Yugi", he was so friendly and helpful. Initially, I was lost trying to find the location using my maps app. When I was leaving in the morning, I discovered that is was really simple to find from the subway. Gofukumachi, exit 5, walk straight to the first street, make a right, 3-4 blocks on your left! I stay at this location again for my travel to Japan. The women's dorm is comfy, there is a nice lounge area and easy to find restaurants and subway or bus access. I am directionally inept, so this hostel's location takes my stress away! Great place and perfect price~

About 15 minutes walk from Hakata Station. Basically just straight away. 2 minutes away from the bus stop. Easy to locate. Staff is nice. Great price with clean space and amenities. Sinks and shower inside and toilet outside the dormitory. Comfortable bed with enough privacy.

The walls are a bit thin so people coming upstairs and talking downstairs can be easily heard (but given the the hostel is a traditional Japanese house it is understandable). Notice this if you are noise-sensitive. The pillows are a bit thin too. But overall I’d definitely choose to stay here again in Fukuoka. :)

(1) The hostel staff I met were all super nice and very willing to offer additional help (or chat with the guest if the guest is in the mood). (2) The common space is quite nice. I spent 1~2 hours there during the 2 nights of my stay and had dinner (take out from supermarket) while also charging my electronic devices. (3) A local supermarket "Sunny" is within a few minutes' walk from the hostel. Very very very convenient for guests like me who don't really dine out in a restaurant every meal. (4) The hostel is about 15 minutes' walk distance to/from Hakata Station area, and the road is so simple I doubt anyone can get lost. The weather was nice during my stay so I simply walked every day. Of course, metro/buses are also available if one prefers mass transportation.

The dorm (female only) itself was okay. I was assigned to a lower bed in the narrow corner, which was quite dark even during daytime due to it was covered all-around except for the space where a guest can climb on/off the bed. I think this is good for the evening (I like it dark when sleeping) but not that ideal if the guest wants to stay at this place during daytime. An upper bed might be a better option if one plans to stay in the room during daytime. This isn't really a minus point though as I would still like to stay here again (with a clear understand of what I should expect)

How to locate guesthouse: Take EXIT 5 of Gofukumachi Station. Walk toward main road from the escalator and turn left. Turn left on first alley. Then turn right. Guesthouse is around 30 meters to your left. Location is good, near the subway and grocery store though it took us a bit of time locating the guesthouse. I like how spartan yet hip the place is with free coffee and tea and access to the bar for ice and utensils.

There was only one shower and toilet on the second floor. They are clean though.

Amazingly cozy building, comfortable beds, nice shared kitchen. Friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location, close enough to Tenjin and Hakata train stations and also Hakata international and domestic terminals. Nice neighborhood, too. But also not too far from all the other sights of Fukuoka and Hakata. It was very quiet at night for how cental the location is.

I can't really think of much, it was very nice overall. The locks of the shared toilet and bathroom were not in the bestest shape. Nothing terribly bad, though.

I had a wonderful time here. Only negative point it was way too short! You feel welcome from the first moment. Since it rained in Fukuoka that day, I spent the whole day and night in the hostel or in the smoking corner and met epic people. The staff was amazing, everything was there, we had an epic night. what more do you want. If you're looking for a chilled hostel and want to meet people, that's exactly the right place and the best I've been to in Japan so far. Special thanks and shootout to abhi
