Yamatoya Honten Ryokan Osaka Hotel

The room was spacious and had an attached balcony. We were given a room on an upper floor as we had asked. The room came with a low table and a tea set and the tea was refreshed every day as we drank it. The staff were wonderful. The Onsen was so refreshing! The ryokan was less than 5 minutes’ walk from Dōtonbori which was very convenient!

We slept on futons and they were thin enough that we could feel the hard floor under us. We expected this but it was still difficult to sleep. Our biggest problem was that the listing states the ryokan has air conditioning, but we could not get it to turn on in our room. The thermostat had a fan option and a heating option but no AC. I went down to ask the staff and was told there was no AC. It was quite warm during the day for late October and the room was too toasty to sleep comfortably. We ended up leaving the window open overnight which helped with the temperature, but also let in the noise from the nearby street and Dōtonbori area. We didn’t get much sleep the 3 nights we were there, and that was with a white noise machine.

There is so much here. You are one block away from Dotonbori so its right where you want to be. Plenty of Restaurants and stores for shopping. As for the Room its very nice, More of a traditional Style with Tatami Mats and Futons. But has a western style bathroom. SO make sure to get the Iced Matcha it is very good and refreshing. Especially after the train ride from Tokyo or a long plane ride from wherever. It's just the right thing to start your time in Osaka.

Not everyone will like sleeping on the Tatami mats with a thin Futon. that's really all that my family had an issue with.

I have always loved the traditional Japanese style rooms with tatami mats and futon beds so because of those aspects, I really liked this room. Other than this, the location was also great and right next to the Dotonbori district. When we first arrived, there was only a table with 2 chairs in the middle of the room and we were told that someone will arrive between 5-7pm to put the futon beds which they did. It was a little uncomfortable since we were coming from a long journey and wanted to lie down straight away but overall, not too much problematic because we checked-in closer to that time anyway but if we checked-in earlier than I think it would have been. The shower was comfortable. Overall, it was a good stay.

They should have provided a conditioner in the shower room. The shampoo made my hair very dry too. The towels were a bit too thin. Also, the TV didn't work but we didn't complain. If we had, maybe the staff would have helped with it since they seemed polite and helpful.

The location was excellent! It is just off the main strip of Doutonbori - so it was an easy walk to all the shopping, entertainment, and restaurants. The breakfast was also really delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was very helpful, especially handling our luggage transfer and even printed some documents that we had forgotten to print. The room was traditional Japanese, but it had all the amenities that we needed. And, of course, the traditional robes were fun.

There was a tea set in the room, but no coffee set-up.

Love the location as it is near Dotonbori and many other shops and entertainment. Very accessible and close to public transit. Love the fact that they have a public onsen to use for guests and a free kimono robe! Both western and traditional Japanese breakfast were excellent. And, it’s a Ryokan so you can definitely get a Japanese style of experience.

I find the staff is a little unfriendly but nevertheless, they were good overall. Would like to have a free accessible water stations so we don’t have to keep bothering them to refill our water bottles.

There Staff service exceeded my expectation. physically this is my first time staying traditional Ryokan in Japan. of course this place not genuine traditional, but inside and room and every corner similar traditional ryokan. I met all different sectors staffs, but everyone is over my expectations. especially Front desk staff service incredible. She's name is "TORIYAMA", i recommended best service in never my life. I really appricate it.

Nothing. I only regret thing is not trying Breakfast. Next time should try breakfast.

The location was very convenient, easy access to Dotonbori and to the train station. The staff were very polite and accommodating. The rooms also had maps recommending popular attractions in the area. The charm of the tatami rooms is so much fun and a large reason we chose to stay here.

Sleeping in the futon on a tatami floor takes some getting used to if you usually sleep on a mattress. Not really a criticism because the traditional method is part of the experience, but picky sleepers used to a mattress may want to consider this. That said, I recommend talking with the staff before making accommodations.

Location is superb, staffs are very friendly and helpful.

facilities is a bit old, but still keep very clean.

tatami room for 4 adult was spacious, after laying out the 4 tatami beds, there is still space for a low table and seating area for eating and drinking tea. There is another separate sitting room with a mini table and 2 chairs, a washing basin area, and a bathroom/toilet with bathtub and sink. So it was very comfortable for 4 adults with luggage. There is an on-site shared hot bath where you can relax and wash up after a long day of sightseeing, else washing up in the room is also fine if you are shy. The ryokan is right opposite the entrance to Dotonburi, with lots of shops and eateries, so we ended up going there for a while every day on the way out or way back. The subway station is an easy 5min walk once you know the way, we were advised to use exit 6 which is nearest, but we realised exit 5 across the big junction seems easier as to get to exit 6 within the station we had to climb down and up levels a couple of times, with luggage it was a bit daunting.
