Hotel Rinconada del Convento

Alexandro in particular went above and beyond with his excellent advice on everything from Izamal to Mérida, to life in Mexico. We enjoyed all of our chats with him and he made us feel very welcome. Nice swimming pool and hammock area.

The hotel restaurant only serves breakfast not lunch or dinner. We had problems finding anywhere to eat in the evenings as there weren’t many restaurants in town and several we tried were shut or not serving food on those nights. The description on Booking.com for a ‘room with a view’ doesn’t seem to guarantee a view of the convent. We paid extra for a ‘city view’ but were initially given an upstairs room that only had a view of a hotel wall. Thankfully we got moved to the correct room when I complained as the views were stunning as you can see from the photos taken from our room.

- Great location right next to convent: we stayed in Room 11 (2x double beds) and it had a window with a gorgeous view! - Incredible shower for Mexican standards: instant, consistent and strong hot water - Good sized room for bags - Decent but small pool for a cool down - Clean and comfortable - Really cute town great for a few days stay

- Bed was a bit hard for my preference - Bathroom door was very small (about 5ft): not a real big issue but my partner who is 6ft had to be careful coming in and out - Our room was a bit noisy next to the main road and the reception

Very comfortable room and king size bed with a cover. Slept like a baby. Pretty back gardens with lovely small pool and great sitting areas and pool towels. Really nice views from upper level patios to convent and sunset and ruin.

Staff was really unfriendly and it took forever to check in. Young front desk person didn’t speak English and had no patience for my Spanish. She kept texting her manager who was on the premises. She tried to give us the front room by the street across from the convent which would have been very noisy. Also told us the free parking was on the street and they had video cameras. We were happy to pay a $20 upgrade for the great room we had facing the pool and terraced garden in back. Great stay if you don’t need any staff help or kindness. Unbelievable!

This is a hotel with character right in the centre of town. The pool area and garden is gorgeous, both during the day and when it’s all lit up at night. Breakfast with that view was wonderful! The hotel rents bikes and also offers ATV tours. We did the ATV tour and it was absolutely fab. We got to see all the pyramids plus do some off road driving. Javier was an amazing guide, with brilliant English. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Rooms are a little random as regards facilities. Ours had no reading lights, only overhead. And be warned, on booking.com ‘with a view’ doesn’t necessarily mean a view of the convent. It can be of the garden.

The location is very good, it's exactly in the center. We love the vintage style of this hotel, the room is big and very stylish, and you can see the church directly on the opposite side.

The internet (no matter wifi or mobile data connection) is really bad in the room, you have to go out to catch the signals.

Should have more hooks on the wall to hang your clothing your house or your keys the room is small enough. Should have wall mounted dispensers for shampoo and conditioner and get rid of those small plastic bottles. It's better for the environment and save the hotel money it's cheaper than buying tiny bottles

It is right by the Convento de San Antonio de Padua. They have breakfast restaurant on the location which made whole a lot easier for the stay with a nice view. Also I spent few hours by terrace area for a quiet and nice view overlooking the convent.

The room gets little damp/humid, I would have opened the window since outside was drier, but since my room was by the pool, I didn’t do that.

Perfect Location downtown. very comfortable rooms, very clean. Had a nice view to the pool.

There was a mix up with some friends and the first room I was assigned was perfect but not the number of beds I had asked for. When we had to switch rooms I ended up with a room with many, many mosquitoes which didn't allow me to sleep properly. That was the only think I did not enjoy.

Perfect location, the room with a view was Perfect, the best choice in the hotel, nice pool and rest area around , very friendly and helpful guy at the reception desk with good English which does happen often in Mexico, I really reccomend it

Lack of hangers in the wardrobe, additionally I paid more for 2 rooms with a view and I Got only one , I had to intervene at the reception desk and finally we got two rooms with a view as I paid

You would be unlikely to find a better location in Izamal. Directly across from the famous Convent and with a view of the top of a pyramid from the hotel. The pool, terrace and hotel grounds were all fantastic amenities.

We had a bad smell in the bathroom coming through the window. I think it was the septic system close by.
