Overall the Shepards Arms Hotel was excellent. Location was excellent, centrally located, easy access to the motorway, public transport and all the other Wellington hotspots. Staff are super friendly and really accommodating. The food on offer is yummy too. For an establishment close to the CBD another bonus is that there is free parking onsite but it does pay to arrive early or you may miss out. Highly recommend to other travellers, this is very good value for money.

Not really a negative but I did find the room really really warm. But after being out in the wind and rain at the rugby the warm room was nice to come back to.

Location and staff were excellent. Room size very generous. Food at the pub was great.

Traffic noise from the very busy arterial street was LOUD. We were even luckier though to have a city crew using a jackhammer outside after midnight. During the daytime we cooled the room by opening windows: old fashioned HEAVY windows which are missing the sash weights. We used wooden coat hangers to prop them open. The entry door handle (room 15) required special technique to operate: push firmly into the door before/during rotating; otherwise door won't open from outside the room. TV was small but adequate. Bedspread was dirty and stained -- we got the staff to re-launder it before use.

Location was awesome. Close to the city. Could walk down to the city. Took the Cable car back up to the Botanic Gardens then walked down through the gardens back to Tinakori Rd. Had a lovely meal at the bar. Beds were comfy and would of slept well if sisters didn't snore. We had requested a car park and were lucky that 1 car park was empty when we arrived so not sure what where we would of parked if it hadn't been as bar patrons also used the carpark.

The shower over the bath had a lot of mould around the edges but it was compensated for by the wonderful water pressure. The bath/shower area would be greatly enhanced with a bit of a makeover.

Friendly staff, great character building and history. Loved being able to eat and drink downstairs then walk up to our room after. Food decent for pub food, nice crispy chips. Nice quaint shops and cafes around it too.

Rooms needed more attention to cleaning on smaller places like light switches, walls coukd do with a wipe down too and bathroom needed some maintenance. Our room was mostly quiet until someone walks up stairs, sounds noisy also to shut doors hard not to bang, ok if you don't want to sleep in and guests and cleaner come in your wake hours.

Nice, traditional pub/hotel combo in Wellington. Great to have the /restaurant on site. Hotel is on a fun street with some shops and other spots to get food. It's also near a massive green space/park that has lots of hiking and bike trails. Also, it was nice for us the hotel was pretty close to Sky Stadium and the Cook Strait Ferry terminal. We had a great room- large, well appointed with big TV, fridge, kettle, comfortable bed, lots of space. The room was very quiet. Staff were really friendly and very helpful, even giving me a ride to a place a little closer to town center to watch football. Great value for the money, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Nothing that I recall, it was great.

Cheap and cheerful. Great for a night or two. Very convenient location. Shower and toilet off every room. Not flash, but great to have.

It was fine for the money. Tired, but that's expected

Very clean room, linen. Very comfy. Great water pressure for the shower. clean bathroom. Very quaint style (Victorian) with bathroom fixtures and vanity table. Surprised by the no noise with restaurant and bar below. Very close to central city.

Bathroom was very tired needing a bit more than a lick of paint. The whole place is a bit tired. I could imagine what this place was like in her day. She mustve been stunning. Windows - two low floor level windows - which fitted the look however one was open permanently as had no latches. Fortunately it couldnt open more than it was. Was really mindful as we had my 8 month of crawling everywhere. We kept the curtain closed (out of sight out of mind).

Amazing old building … the room we got was room 14 upstairs in the annex… the stairs and carpet up to the room was warn and marked and we had reservations on what to expect when we entered our room … but pleasantly surprised … our room was very large with a 4 poster double bed and a lush green rolled arm sofa . Basic tea coffee but adequate . The bathroom was also large but had a large spa bath with a shower over it and albeit this was nice it was certainly not in character with the overall room decor… there was a bit of wear and tear and mould around the spa bath which was an easy fix .

You have to get use to the traffic noise with this room as. There is huge potential with this size room ( it was huge ) to really make it something special and stay true to the age if this annex - large windows and high ceiling … and a claw bath tub with adjacent shower would have been an amazing touch.

The staff were lovely. We had no towels in our room so I had to ask for some. The staff were great and grabbed us extra. The room was upstairs and very spacious. The bed was very comfortable! It was a chilly day so when we checked in we turned the heater on and it warmed the whole room up quickly.

Being at the front of the property on a main road during the week it got quite noisy from 7am onwards. The spa bath needs a proper clean too

This reminds me of an old English Inn. High Way stopping place. Somewhere to rest in convivial company and water the horses while drinking beer round the huge fireplace and doing lots of Quaffing! Good standard of food, clean rooms with LOVELY crisp fresh cotton bedlinen. Basic service but who needs more than feeling safe and welcome after a tiring journey. Travelling alone, just approaching 60z a lone potentially vulnerable female, welcomed into a warm well lit cheery atmosphere. Wonderfull.

Nothing to dislike per say. I have a serious back condition though and the mattress just couldn't support my back adequately. Nothing wrong with mattress at all I just need very firm support.
