Castelo Hotel

The hotel is centrally situated: just perfect. We parked the car in the garage - €10 extra for two nights but totally worth it for convenience and peace of mind - and walked everywhere. The room was clean with a pleasant outlook and the bed was comfortable. Five stars for providing an extra pillow. There was a good range of hot and cold food for breakfast. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

It seemed slightly odd that a 4 star hotel didn’t have a restaurant or snack bar, only a breakfast room. On our first evening there was a tremendous thunderstorm with torrential rain. If we could have had a slice of pizza or a toasted sandwich, we would have preferred that to having to venture out into the pouring rain. The coffee machine in the breakfast room provided very poor coffee with milk - and it tasted as if sweetened. I’d rather have an old-fashioned coffee pot brought to the table by a waiter/waitress!

The hotel is well presented with welcoming and professional staff. Rooms were clean and spacious and well equipped. The hotel's location is perfect to enjoy the key attractions of the town.

You would expect the bottled water provided in rooms to be provided free of charge in an hotel of such a standard (or not at all as, this would reduce plastic waste and the tap water is perfectly drinkable). The mini bar was empty apart from water and 2 cans of coke so perhaps it would be better not to have one at all? The town on Chaves does not appear to be worth any more than an overnight stop.

excellent location and a lovely hotel. The staff on reception were very helpful and their recommendations of how to use our short time in Chaves was great. the hotel was modern and very nicely furnished and the underground car park very helpful though a bit tight to park in. Make sure to book your space as we hadn’t been told to do this in advance and it was just luck that they had a space available

nothing really it was just a shame that the spa was closed the day we visited especially as it was a Monday and so many shops were closed in the town along with all the museums which meant we were a bit limited with what to do

The breakfast was amazing, delicious. Everyone was so polite and kind. Castelo Hotel is beautiful and really clean and COVID safe.

The breakfast was the best of our entire trip and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is very tastefully fitted out with replica Roman antiquities.

Although AC is stated as existing, this only runs in summer and we visited mid April. I believe all the rooms face west and the room was very hot when we arrived as the sun was blasting through the windows and opening them didn't help. The staff stepped in an turned on the AC for a few hours throughout the property which was most welcome. The following day it wasn't needed as it was a lot cooler.

The location is as central as you could get. Good for cafes and walks around the quite towns streets. Plenty free parking at the front of the hotel, with maybe 5-6 spaces for reserved secure underground parking for €5 fee. The room and hotel was super clean with a big bed that was comfortable. shower and bathroom was nice. Breakfast area is super stylish with really comfortable seating. (Having travelled all around Portugal, I found seating and breakfast areas lacked life and comfort, it was nice to have a nice place early morning for breakfast) Food was freshly made for us with lots of choices. Antonio Jorge took care of us very well and was making sure we had everything we needed.

The spa was under refurbished due to our stay at off season times. They let us know by email after we booked. wasn’t a big deal but it would have been nice to know before we booked a non refundable room.

Very good facilities with great design, excellent towels and good toiletries. Great location next to the castle. All attention from the staff. Parking. Breakfast is good with variety of fruits and desserts.

Arrangements to use SPA are rather restrictive so we we not comfortable to use it at the end. I would add SPA to the price of the stay by default and extend working hours.

This was seriously FIVE STAR QUALITY!!! The entrance had real ancient Roman artifacts designed into the wall decor, EVERYTHING was impeccably decorated, modern furniture, and I cannot praise our room enough!!! Our room was HUGE and a view of the castle with all impact windows & blackout curtains. The bathroom was all marble, gorgeous! And the bed was a KING size, real king size, not two twin beds, rare for Europe! The breakfast was five star delicious! LOVED THIS HOTEL!!!

Needs a better blow dryer.

Breakfast was excellent. Hot food included bacon and scrambled eggs, which were very nice, and mini hotdog sausages/frankfurters of which I’m not a big fan but don’t let that put you off! The toaster worked very well. Then there there was cheese and presunto, fruit and yogurt, orange juice and good coffee. We were well fuelled up for the day.

Secure parking for both of our motorbikes at a cost of 5 euros per day in an incredibly clean underground parking garage. The staff was very friendly and helpful and were happy to give recommendations for places to eat etc. Huge, comfortable bed with plenty of storage in the room. There were some additional features such as lights in the wardrobe, smart TV, big walk in shower with the thermostat clearly showing 38C in the centre position. The switch between the hand held shower and overhead drench shower was very obvious too (important for anyone who usually wears glasses). Breakfast was organised in shifts. The breakfast staff paid great attention to cleanliness and detail in the breakfast room; we were very impressed with this.

We requested a quiet room but were given one above the Reception area which was not quiet at all. The A/C wasn't working when we arrived but it was eventually sorted out. We would prefer to open windows but it was too noisy outside.
