Spacious room, quiet, awesome views, and even had all the things we needed to bbq our dinner including the grill and all the utensils. The Gyppo restaurant was within walking distance and we went both nights. Walking thru the residential area we saw lots of wildlife. The lighthouse was pretty and had a heart lit up at night. The ocean waves come right to the hotel. We left our patio door open a bit at night to listen to the waves crashing. We jumped the rocks and investigated the tide pools and saw some really neat sealife. We will definitely stay here again.

The lighthouse and the restaurant on site weren't open due to COVID. With vaccinations and masking I'm not sure why this is still an issue, kinda bummed but it is what it is...

Everything was amazing from day one till the end. The contactless check-in was perfect. We came to get away from the hustle from the City of Columbus, Ohio and to celebrate our 15th year anniversary. Our needs were outstandingly met. We met Donna (the innkeeper) for a brief moment to get some ice and coffee. She made us feel right at home. She was very friendly and you can really tell she loves her job. The seals were so entertaining. The tide pools were interesting to explore also. We found a mountain spring in Deadmans Gulch and decided to sit and chill for a bit. While we were there a family of Sea Otters came out of the ocean and frolicked around! There were wild turkeys every time we went for a drive. Foxes were slyly creeping around everywhere. And I can't forget to mention all the deer. They are abundant. We enjoyed a sunset on a log every night and always had some deer buddies hanging out with us. Oh and I can't forget to mention the neighborhood buck, Ben. He's magnificent. All the wildlife and you're surrounded by with the most amazing beaches and mountain views. I cried from the beauty of it several times. It was purely overwhelming at times. Our first outing we went to Fort Bragg to railbike through the Redwoods and finished that day at the Glass Beach. Then we made a trip through the Redwoods on the Avenue of Giants. We also stopped at the Eel River to do some of the most serene Rockhounding. The drive from San Francisco was incredible too. Going through wine country and then driving through Kings Range. The 24 mile drive to Shelter Cove was unbelievable. There were lots of twists and turns but there were a good amount of turnouts to pull off for locals so you can enjoy being a tourist. From the smells of the nurseries/farms, the pine and redwoods to the salty ocean. It was the most amazing, life changing vacation. We were literally planning our retirement the whole time we were there.

I loved the location and that wonderful “hotel smell” when I entered my room! The place was super clean and cozy! Donna, the Innkeeper, was super friendly and very helpful. I could tell that she loved her job and took pride in managing this charming inn. I also was super delighted to see the deer and meet some of the other 4-legged staff that were here as well! This place felt safe and inviting

The walls are a bit thin, and the first night I heard a lot of “knocking” or pounding on the walls. I also heard people walking in the room above me. There was also a lot of outside noise (maybe with cleaning staff?) starting early the following morning (around 6:30ish) that was a little annoying; however, the wonderful ocean sound coming from my balcony more than made up for it!

Gorgeous views. Room was comfortable. As others have noted maintenance is needed on exterior. Balcony door wouldn’t slide properly. Windows rusted. Understandable given constant ocean spray.

The road to the property is not for the faint of heart. Mile for mile, view for view, next time we’ll probably opt for Fort Bragg for an easier road, more things to do, more restaurants, etc.

The room was quiet and comfortable, and it had a great view of the ocean and the rocks along the beach. Being able to hear the surf and the seals was nice. I liked that there was a continuous fan available. The innkeeper was very friendly and helpful, and she gave good suggestions on where to hike and where to eat.

Some lights were out, including the one over the sink, and there was a missing slat on the blinds. They were fixed the day after I checked in.

Absolutely amazing view. Slept pretty well listening to the roar of the waves. Room was spacious and clean. Water was nice and hot. Microwave and fridge in the room were super handy as it is a bit remote there. I brought my own groceries and was all set.

I would have slept a little better if the bed wasn't quite so firm. It's an extremely firm mattress. Heater may not have been working? I couldn't make it run, but there was a space heater in the room, and that worked ok. There was also an extra blanket for the bed, which was nice. If traveling in the winter, I suggest bringing slippers or thick socks and a sweater.

All of the rooms have balconies just feet away from the magnificent Pacific Ocean. The small bay and beach is rimmed with rock outcroppings, which the massive waves crash into, creating spectacular images and sound. You are just far enough away from the action that you don't get wet.

It is 22 miles from Highway 101, and the paved access road is challenging. The road is narrow, winding, with a lot of ups and downs. The locals know it well, and can drive faster than you can. It is best to just pull out and let them pass and enjoy the ride. You do not want to do the drive at night.

The Ocean Front Inn lives up to it's name in spades. It is right on a rocky beach, and every room has a spectacular view of it from the spacious balcony. We loved falling asleep to the crashing of the waves every night. The building is in good repair for an older hotel in a remote area. The paint looked pretty fresh and everything worked as it should. The walls must be pretty thick as we didn't hear any of the guests surrounding our room. The location is within walking distance of tide pools, beaches, etc.

This is not a criticism of the Inn, but advice for other travelers. Many of the services in town have closed, presumably due to the covid downturn. If you want to eat out, there are only 3 places left, and they aren't open very much. We knew this ahead of time and prepared all of our meals in the room using the supplied microwave, toaster, and brought our own rice cooker. You can do a surprising number of things in a rice cooker (make pasta, fry, etc). Shelter cove is at the end of a long, narrow, winding road, but worth the small amount of trouble.

absolutely stunning; our unit was a private ground floor room with kitchen and gas fireplace. walk out of the unit right on to the grassy lawn overlooking the bluff and watch seals sunning themselves on the black rocks below. the staff were friendly and outgoing, we hated leaving at the end of our stay.

the room was a little dated but very clean and super charming with its decorative art and furnishings; however with a view like that and falling to sleep to the sound of the ocean waves right outside I’d choose to stay there over and over again.

The view from the room was incredible. It was the most insane ocean view - most times when you book an “ocean view” room you have a peek at the ocean. No - in this room the ocean is at your deck. So relaxing and beautiful. Price is absolutely worth it for the deck. Room was also spacious and clean, comfy bed big Tv.

There were only a couple snaffus. The sliding door to the deck was rough to open. But worth the extra effort to open it! Sheets looked like they weren’t cleaned between stays.
