The hotel is in an easily accessible location in downtown Detroit. The building is fantastic, but it's from an earlier era. The redo is attractive, but it is somewhat industrial. The beds and bathrooms were glorious. The deepest sleep I have had in months... Air-con/ventilation was superb -- ran on the cool side, which we liked. Nice arm chair and chaise. In and out valet, which we didn't use, but helpful. Very nice double window shades -- blackout and transparent shade screen, on pullers. The shower was delicious with various toiletries (wash, cream, shampoo, conditioner) -- fragrant soap.

Lighting in the rooms is a bit weird. No light at the desk, yet bright lights at the entrance and in various corners. One small desk and small chair -- not the best for those needing to do work. The windows are not entirely soundproof. Though we generally had quiet, there was a 5 am garbage collection that was quite noisy -- and we were in the back on an alley! The hotel restaurant is spacious with unique furnishings, but breakfast was semi-take-out, with limited menu, with some items failing. Service was great. We did not eat dinner there, but we noted a good crowd on a weeknight the evening we arrived. We didn't fully realize that the one night reservation we had was fully pre-pay, but that's our bad.

It has a great open lounge. The whole location has character as it used to be a firestation. Our dinner meal was absolutely excellent and would go there just for the food! All staff was helpful and friendly. Valet worked well for our car.

I asked for towels to be replenished and they lost that request..

Service, interior design, comfortable beds, unique interior spaces

A little too much zoning in the Apparatus (adjoining restaurant/lounge); would have wanted to enjoy a cup of coffee in their lounge side but staff was hesitant to seat me because bar wasn't set up. They were nice about it and I liked eating on the restaurant side but was a little confused.

Fantastic central location in a beautiful building, with friendly and helpful staff. Lovely immaculate room. I would happily stay here on my next visit, although perhaps specifying a room away from Washington Blvd as it's very noisy.

The windows didn't adequately isolate the room from the road noise on Washington Blvd, so earplugs were necessary.

The location was perfect. The hotel is super cool. It is a converted fire station and so it looks super unique. The rooms are modern and clean.

The only thing I did not enjoy was my breakfast. But generally I did not have great food in Detroit and I ate at a fancy restaurant. So maybe its just not a foody kind of place?

I love a good historic hotel, and this one definitely fits the bill! They've left a lot of the old fire station character, but have updated it into a really comfortable hotel. It's in a good location in downtown Detroit, and the rooms are large and comfortable. We also loved the Apparatus Room for dinner and drinks!

If you're like us and don't live in a city, you might want to bring some earplugs to drown out the nighttime street noise (mostly loud engines and the occasional siren).

The lounge is spectacular, it kept the original tiles of the former fire station as well as the doors for the trucks to go in and out. The bedroom was pretty and very well equipped, decent size but the furniture and outlets makes it a very comfortable room.

The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday (due to covid) which is not properly informed. At this price range not having a restaurant on site makes it hard to recommend for those days.

The hotel is brand new and clean. The hotel staff were friendly and supportive.

The windows aren't soundproof, so it is really noisy. My room was above an air vent and it was really hard to sleep at night

Very good location and a wonderful, characterful building. The bar and restaurant are highly recommended with a good atmosphere. The food was excellent.

The bedroom air-con was like an aircraft engine, really loud! No heating in bathroom! Breakfast is an afterthought for this hotel. The choice was limited and generally disappointing

We did not plan to stay here but as COVID19 restrictions forced our original hotel to close we chose the foundation hotel and we’re pleasantly surprised and happy we did! From the first day everyone was working hard to keep us happy and healthy. Temperature taken at check in and rooms cleaned to perfection. It’s close to downtown and since restaurants were closed they gave us a private dining option that was worth every penny! Christmas in Covid was not perfect but this hotel made up for that in many ways

Some things are a bit pricey and no valet parking on site
