Sonder The Randolph

The room was very clean and spacious. We'd stayed at a Sonder in another city previously and this was much the same. The location was great. Easily walkable for us to the waterfront, Comerica Park, etc.

As with previous stays at Sonder there were just a few tiny logistical hiccups. Our early check in request was not reviewed before our arrival. They initially tried to charge us $25 for early arrival even though, by that time, we were only 30 minutes before the 4p check in time and knew that our room was ready after running into the housekeeping folks. This eventually got sorted out and we were not charged. (Customer service through the app is reasonably responsive.) There was also a $25 fee for late check out. On the one hand it is frustrating to be "nickle and dimed" for things included in a standard hotel, but we did pay a much lower rate so at the end of the day this was still a good value.

Great view from my spacious 9th floor room. Very clean. Convenient location for public transportation. Sonder staff very quick to respond to the "chat" function when I had a question. City Mkt was only a block away with groceries and prepared foods. The room came supplied with a white noise machine but I never had to use it. Nice gesture though. I also enjoyed reading the Berry Gordy autobiography that they provided.

The street noises were annoying at times but much less noisy then I expected. Main noise was on the weekend. Noise was from cars going by with radios blasting and large groups of people singing. (There was no people making noise outside the 7-Eleven that other people have complained about.)

Overall really nice, large one-bedroom apartment in Downtown Detroit. Self-check-in with only; security guard at door. On arrival she came out and helped me enter when key pad did not take. Nice place although not particularly good for work since only a small kitchen table not near outlets. Will definitely stay here again when I return to Detroit given the quality of the accommodations and price. Best deal I could find and better than my colleague who rented a $250/night room at a national hotel chain and had a small room. They could improve their meassaging sysem and remove all the damn ads you have to wade through when trying to do business on room rental.

1. front door key pad needs replacement; wearing out so touch not good 2. Window in bedroom to living room needs shade so you don't have to lower all blinds in LR 3. Set up news and sports stations on TV; don't want to learn ROKU to watch CNN 4. While cleaning is okay, it can be improved. cleaners are wiping parts of everything but not really cleaning 5. could use large bowels in kitchen

I enjoyed location as far as walkability to coffee shops and public transit. The 7-eleven below was convenient for late night snack runs. Felt centrally located to all the activities we had planned.

It was no sound barrier to the outside noise at night ( sirens, people walking by) made it difficult to sleep soundly. - how to access luggage storage at arrival should be a highlight of the check-in process. It was not easily apparent that the door code could be used to get into the building before check- in time to store luggage. There were other guests who were experiencing the same because we saw them standing outside with luggage looking confused and offered to tell them they could use the door code.

The apartment was absolutely lovely--so clean and supplied with everything I could wish for to make my stay easy and comfortable. The windows and view were spectacular. The bed was extremely comfortable, too. I will definitely look for and stay in Sonder hotels in the future!

The location was very convenient for the conference I was attending, and most of the time felt perfectly safe, but Friday evening felt less safe. There was a large police presence on the block outside the hotel. I was glad not to have plans to go out that evening.

Very convenient location to walk to destinations or catch the bus or Q line. Reasonably priced and clean property. I liked the window view we had of the building across and comfy bed. I liked having access to cooking and refrigeration in the kitchen as well the more eco-friendly approach with dispensers for soaps and diish cleaning supplies.

There wasnt really anything. Just had to be careful when you walk out due to the homelessness in downtown Detroit but I felt the city had a strong police presence on the weekends

Location, nice big windows with interesting and good view. (Do need a clean tho). Lovely soaps etc. always makes a difference. Lovely that this is an apartment and not a hotel so you really feel like you live and belong in Detroit. Convenient shop directly underneath which sells hot fresh pizza and is generally incredibly useful!

I don’t know why some have complained about homeless people being nearby. This can happen to anyone so don’t put yourselves too high up. The people we met were well mannered and had respect for others and for Detroit. We did get chased out and got quite a few emails about checking out. It was as if they couldn’t wait to get rid of us! The floor was quite dirty. Needs a good mop! The duvet needs a duvet cover not just a sheet covering it.

The rooms at the property are excellent. They are neat and clean and well furnished. They look exactly like what you see online. Also, the room had a washer and dryer within the unit. Bathrooms were well lit and spotless. The TV was a smart TV and allowed streaming services so you can watch you favorite Netflix or Amazon show. The 7-11 downstairs was convenient. There are other stores nearby as well.

The property does not have a health club in the facility so no way to exercise. Also, Detroit downtown where the property is located is quite run-down and feels unsafe to be out post evening. On a Friday or Saturday night, there streets are noisy till early AM and you can hear it in your room.

The location is absolutely perfect, about a 2 minute walk to Campus Martius and plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby! The view from our room was absolutely stunning. The cleanliness of the apartment was beyond our expectations. Security always at the front door and very friendly. Above all, the customer service from the Sonder Team was absolutely perfect. The text system worked out great for any questions I had, you talk to a real person and they respond and resolve almost immediately. Additionally, check in and out was a breeze!! We will definitely be back!

I know this is out of their control being in this specific location, and they DO state this in their listing, but there is no free parking nearby. There is a secure parking garage right across the street for around $25 overnight/day. I could literally see my vehicle from our room which was nice. Or you can park in the parking lot connected to the hotel (gated) for $35/day/overnight.
