"On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair". This motel reminds me of the opening lines of The Eagles classic song "Hotel California". The location of this motel is pretty much out in the middle of nowhere on a dark desert highway, except in Nevada instead of California. I really like the desert location away from everything. Relaxing and away from any big city hustle and bustle. It's really only a mile or so south of Alamo, Nevada, a tiny one-horse town in itself, but it feels like 100 miles to civilization out here. According to motel management, the buildings that make up this small motel originally came from Area 51 (or the general area) back in the 1970s. The motel in small but cozy and you enter your room from a central hallway running down the center of the building and not from the outside, like most motels. Each room is decorated with a theme in mind such as military, UFOs, Egyptian, under the sea, 1950s, African wildlife, old school Las Vegas, etc. You get the idea. I liked the outside motel sign that lit up after dark and also the two old school classic streetlamps in the parking lot. My wife and I stayed here for a night in August 2023 while on vacation in southern Nevada. Check-in at the front office was simple and easy. The price is very affordable here for the budget minded traveler which is one reason we chose to stay here. Our room was pretty small but clean and well kept. I do wish there had been a little more counter or desk-top space to lay some of our luggage and other travel items. We stayed in the neatly decorated military room. The motel was quiet and relaxing for the entire time we were there. I had a nice friendly little chat with the evening front desk manager (I think his name was Zach). He was telling me a little bit about this area, its history, the weather, living out here, nearby Area 51, etc. Overall, a nice stop and place to lay our heads while on vacation in the southern Nevada desert.

The surprise of The Fantasy Room! Booked this room on Booking.com...had no idea what the room would look like. Expected the usual. Opened the door...mushrooms, dragons and fairies which are bit out of my décor selection, BUT this room was CLEAN. The staff was friendly. The heat worked well. The view of the farms across the road was very peaceful. My husband and I slept very well, even with the Cheshire Cat smiling down on us from the ceiling. LOL!

There was no place to eat, that was close, besides the local convenience store. The store has a good selection of items, but the staff are clearly into methamphetamines.

The themed rooms were a really nice touch. It was apparent that the owners took pride in their work. We also appreciated the oatmeal and snacks for breakfast! We even received a call alerting us that we had left some water behind in the mini fridge after checkout—very thoughtful staff!

The air conditioning took a little bit to get going, but it ended up getting the job done and we had a very cool sleep! The only “negative” was that the bathroom faucet sprayed everywhere, but this wasn’t a huge deal. It might be nice to be able to pick a specific themed room at reservation!

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The location was perfect. We had a family event near by and the area only has a few motels. The room was spotlessly clean and the price was right. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of towels and toiletries. The WIFI was good. The room was small but that is to be expected at an older road-side motel in a rural area.

It was a cold night so we needed to use the heater. It was difficult to find a balance between too hot and not warm enough. The fan was very loud and I had difficulty falling asleep.

Old updated wayside Inn adjacent to a wildlife preserve. Owner/managers are doing a very good job of making this a great stopover which is basically in the middle of nowhere. Very clean, updated rooms, each with its own theme. Comfortable bed, good shower, fridge, microwave. Owners very down to earth, friendly and dedicated to their property. Fresh coffee and treats early in the morning for guests. I would definitely stay here again. Gas station and store a mile north.

Nothing. Keep up the good work and best of luck to these very nice people.

Everything was amazing, not to mention free coffee and breakfast. room was comfortable and actually really nice! bed was cozy as all hell! shower was nice too, micro shower head. made it feel like you're getting a massage. i got the las Vegas room and i loved the red and gold in it! those bed sheets were awesome! not to mention a liquor store in the place once you enter. there is a lovely view too of just open fields of farm and mountain! pretty good price too!

only thing i didn't like was the lock to the bathroom door didn't work/lock in the room i was in, im sure it was done for a reason though. i personally am not used to doors not locking.

This is an unusual and imaginatively-themed motel. The overall theme may be Hollywood movies and personalities, but our room had a "dragons" and "mushroom forests" theme, humorously and nicely done. We liked it. The buildings are '70s vintage, and have been moved to the present site from elsewhere. It is a "work in progress", according to the family that owns it. Good value, and the rooms and linens are clean, although the floor plans may be a bit unique. It really does have good views of the sunset over the mountains, and chairs right outside the rooms to watch.

Well, according to the European saying "windows are the eyes of a building", it would be very beneficial to give some attention to washing the windows of the rooms.

I enjoyed my stay at Sunset View; I get why it gets such good reviews. It's a drab little building - like something you'd expect in the arctic - that the owners have dressed up with "theme" rooms to make staying there a novelty, and they've done a good job of it. My room sported the "Las Vegas during the mob era" theme; I enjoyed reading some of the content in the photos. The location is out of the way - 100 mi. north of Las Vegas and 125 mi. south of Ely, but it's great if either of those locations are just a little too far when you're driving on Highway 93. Also: the scenery at this spot is pretty.

It gets cold at night in this part of Nevada and this building doesn't have much insulation. The heater/AC did an adequate job though. Also, breakfast (pre-packaged Danish) wasn't much but that's not out of line for the price, IMO.

A pretty quirky decor with themed rooms was a nice and funny touch to stand out. It made our day after a long drive :) Location was ideal on our trip to start the travel through the ET Highway from East to West. Very helpful staff.

No breakfast offered and very poor choice in proximity. The Safeway gas station is closest and has decent choice of hot and cold sandwiches and a booth area.

We stayed in the Under The Sea Room and what an absolute delight it was! We moved to Texas from New Zealand in June 2021 and the sea is one thing we really miss. This room was like staying in a New Zealand bach (holiday home) in the Marlborough Sounds (the bit of sea between New Zealand's two islands). It will be a room we will remember forever.
