Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz Bergen

A very comfortable hotel in a great location. The rooms are clean, modern and well equipped. Every member of staff I spoke to was helpful, smiley and very friendly. At the end of my 10-day stint travelling around Norway I’d come accustomed to starting the day with an excellent breakfast, and WOW! I was not disappointed the first morning I came down. At first you don’t know where to start. Thankfully I stayed 3-nights so I tried everything by the time I left. I’d stay here again for the breakfast alone….

My only minor issue - and it’s an issue I have with most hotel. Why oh why can’t you put a small shelf in the shower? Not all of us want to use the soap dispenser. Some of us travel with our own soap and shampoo. It doesn’t have to be permanently fixed, as it could just hang off the taps or the shower screen. Whoever designs these bath and shower rooms should be made to use them, before they finish decorating. Just a minor moan…

The location was great and our room was quiet, the staff was helpful, welcomed us with a smile which was much appreciated after we did other experiences before. The breakfast was overall good and we had tea for free the whole day in the lounge and in the room. The cleaning lady was very thoughtful and always recharge the one sort of tea that we’ve been drinking in the room.

Our room was small, despite this normally not being one of our criteria we found it hard to get organized with two big luggages in such a small space with not many places to hang things. The fruits at breakfast were still frozen at 8.00, we got a piece of ananas that really was cold as ice and totally tasteless. We would suggest to really improve the fresh fruits (more local in summer like now and fresh).

We loved the beauty of the old building, the location was perfect for most all of our plans, having a restaurant/bar was nice when our feet just couldn’t go another step and the train was right out front. We had a really quiet room in the back— that was outstanding! The staff was exceptional. All were nice and helpful during our stay. However, yesterday they really saved us from a really bad situation! The front desk staff discovered that our ship was leaving from Rotterdam, not Amsterdam. They helped with our taxi and we made it to our ship in time! They went above and beyond.

I was offered a discount on my original booking & was hence able to upgrade to a better room. The location was excellent in terms of being right in the hub of access to Bryggen, Fløjbanan, the Fish Market, close to buses, easy walking distance from my ferry trip & surrounded by excellent restaurants offering a range of different cuisines & experiences. The breakfast buffet was extensive, freshly prepared, with an array of local specialities but also catering to international palates. Simply delicious.

I had hurt my foot so I was struggling to go up & down stairs. My room was up 2 stairs & had a handicapped toilet - I thought that was a strange combination.

I wanted to be really close to Bryggen, the Fløibana & the Fish Market. The location was perfect for all 3. Great World class restaurants all around. Comfortably close to the train station & buses too. The breakfast buffet was outstanding!

The Bergen pavements around the corner from Thon Rosenkrantz Hotel are a challenge. They are at a considerable angle downwards towards the road. I had wrenched the ligaments in my ankle, so walking at this angle was very challenging. In winter in icy weather they must be treacherous. That has nothing to do with the hotel, but if you have a foot or leg injury it may help to know.

The location of this hotel is really good, walking distance to the port and shoppes The bed is comfy, the bathroom has a nice bathtub The breakfast in this hotel is very good with a lot of variety, they even offer and afternoon soup and salads for the guests

It was june, the weather was warm we open the windows ,because there is no A/C and the seagulls where very noisy all night long, for the two nights we stayed. The 2nd night we ask for a fan and it was a little better the front desk person was not helpful with us

I liked everything! The breakfasts really are amazing as per all the reviews. A huge selection of lovely food, coffee, teas and other drinks. My favourite was the machine that freshly presses your oranges… Gosh! I loved that! The bed was so comfortable and the room had lovely block-out curtains ensuring a nice dark room at night. The staff were all really amazing. I needed to print a contract and then asked for it to be scanned again, and not only was the lady at reception super helpful in doing that, she also did not charge me for it, which I could not believe. And the best was that we could have a complementary dinner there when we arrived cold and tired from the airport. Warm soup, bread, pasta, cheese, salami, jam and pastries and lovely cappuccino. Arriving at 8 pm with a 12 year old being a single mom in a city that I’ve never been to before, this was such a heaven-sent that I did not have to go look for a place to get food from when we landed, and the fact that it is complementary just blew my mind! All communication before the stay via Booking.com was answered promptly and great advice was given. There was a problem with the plumbing in my room and I was given the option to move to another room or to get the janitor to fix it. I chose the latter as I did not want to pack and unpack in a new room and it was fixed (and the room cleaned) before we finished breakfast, so I was not inconvenienced at all. I highly recommend this hotel and would most certainly return if I’m lucky enough to visit Bergen again.

The location was great, we were in walking distance to everything in Bergen. The breakfasts were great and we were really impressed with the choice. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We liked how we were left a bag of clean towels each morning if we put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door.

We were told the wrong time for breakfast by reception staff so missed it on our first morning which was really disappointing. There is a bar/ club on the same street a few doors away from the hotel that is incredibly loud in the early hours of the morning at the weekend. Our sleep was interrupted by loud people standing in the street all night. This is not the fault of the hotel but something to keep in mind - take your earplugs if your room is at the front of the hotel!!! Our sleep was affected. The rooms are very small for 2 people, especially if you have large luggage. It would be okay for a solo traveller or if you do not have much baggage.

What's not to like? The location is EXCELLENT. Literally in the heart of Bryggen and short walk to everything, one street up from the main area, however, still very quiet. Parking garage right across the street. Could not be more convenient. Sparkling clean, but it's Norway, so everything is. The room was surprisingly roomy, bigger than any other hotel on our trip. There was even a wrapped fruit basket that was in the room with a "Happy Anniversary" card. That was going above and beyond and was incredibly kind. My husband and I just laughed when we walked into breakfast in the mornings. All the other places we stayed at had a very very small breakfast collection but this was MASSIVE. It's insane that this is included in the price. However, I do advise you get there earlier and not close to the time they end breakfast because they literally turn up the lights and start taking away the food and drinks immediately. That portion of it felt a bit rushed, but I understand as well. The bathroom floors were heated as well which was nice. I would definitely stay here again

I hate to even write this because it's so minor but the room was a bit hot. You could open the windows but then there's the bit of street noise. There's a fan but I could not find a convenient plug for it adjacent to the bed so I left it. This could possibly just be me not used to heavy duvet covers as well and again, such a minor thing almost not worth writing about.

The breakfast is phenomenal! So many tasty items to choose from, filled us up enough to skip lunch. The room was clean and well furnished. The location is great - right in the middle of the old town area, with lots of dining options nearby.

Only complaint is that the shower is part of a tub with an exceptionally high rim to step over. No one with mobility issues would be able to handle it well as there was no grab bar.
