My stay at the oldest hotel in Tasmania was truly enchanting and fascinating. The hotel's ambiance, steeped in history, left a lasting impression on me. It's a must-see destination in Tasmania due to its rich heritage. The hotel's restaurant offers delicious traditional Australian parmis, making it a culinary highlight of the stay. However, reservations are highly recommended due to its popularity. Overall, despite a few minor drawbacks, my experience at this historic hotel was delightful, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable stay in Tasmania.

The breakfast options were limited to just cereals and toast, and there was no coffee machine, only sachet coffee. Nevertheless, the fact that breakfast was included in the room rate was a plus.

Shared bathrooms were excellent. Room facilities were good, but fly screens would have been good, though insects did not seem to be a problem. Air conditioning would have improved comfort upon arrival, though Queenstown cooled down once the sun went down and as such our comfort levels went up. Food was pretty good, wife enjoyed a lovely steak, daughter enjoyed a steak as well, whilst I was not able to finish a scrumptious Fettuccini Carbonara, breakfast was pretty good as well, though proprietors might consider having a short order cook in the morning to prepare a hot breakfast at a reasonable additional charge, might have been an economic consideration, given the larger number of people staying, the night we stayed there, at breakfast the next morning, something to consider, might add to client experience of The Empire Hotel, and possibly to their bottom line ? Kind regards Peter Enright

See above. Not so much as did not like, but more as, possible improvements to consider.

We have just arrived home after a lovely stay at this wonderful old hotel (built in 1901) in the heart of Queenstown. The staff were welcoming, and friendly, and went out of their way to look after us. We were a party of 2 couples and we stayed in 2 double rooms on the 1st floor, up a beautiful Tasmanian blackwood staircase. The rooms are old but clean and bright, the beds very comfy with 2 pillows each, soft sheets, and electric blankets to keep you warm on a cold winter's night. The bathrooms while not ensuite, are spacious, clean, and plentiful (there were 3 near our rooms)! We ate dinner in the large dining room with its high ceilings and original paintings around the walls. The menu had a great variety of dishes and the food was yummy. The building itself is historic and exudes character and is situated across the road on one side, from the West Coast Railway station, and on the other side, the iconic Paragon Theatre. Amazing value for your money! We will definitely be back.

The staff were amazing. The food in the restaurant was really good and a good price. The main areas of the hotel looked beautiful with all the old furniture to match the age of the hotel.

Our room was a little underwhelming and dusty. We ended up purchasing a power board from the local IGA as we had to unplug the fridge whenever we wanted to use the kettle. The bathroom could definitely use an update. Took my (almost 80) mum with us and the creaky floors really annoyed her

The hotel is well located within Queenstown (you can't miss it!) and the free breakfast option is awesome. The bar serving lunch and dinner is also very nice. The Queen room is a bit tight but cosy and very clean and the ensuite was great too.

On the first morning of our stay, there was no butter put out at the start of breakfast (at 7am) and there were no staff members to speak to so we decided to grab breakfast out since we had to be somewhere.

Entrance to the hotel is beautiful - room had lots of space - bathroom newly renovated and fantastic shower. Staff were friendly, some needed a bit more training and support. It was really busy while we were there and whilst alot of meals were running out we had excellent steak for dinner both nights. Credit to the chef. Handy having continental breakfast, could have added a couple of extras (e.g. fruit / yoghurt / marmalade?)

Slightly concerned about standard fan not working as it was very hot while we were there and no extras on site (staff got fan working)

Overall, it was a good and comfortable stay. The breakfast was a bonus. The rooms are smaller than ideal but, given the age of the building, it's expected. The renovations have helped with the general experience, and it would be good if the general areas underwent some renovations, to improve the overall user experience 😊. Would stay again, travelled to the area.

The location is excellent for a traveler, next to the train station. The bathroom is new and clean, seems just renovated, however some hangers are needed, as we are not able to find hanger for towels or clothes in the bathroom. The continental breakfast is simple but convenient for a traveler as very flexible from 5 to 9am in the morning.

The bedroom is too small, the fridge is noisy and not working properly. No wifi service, but it seems to be a general problem in that area. The 1st floor door way needs repair.

What a grand old hotel. Location couldn't be better with off road parking available just across the road. Bar staff were great, dinner at pub was great, locals at bar were great.

I booked a room with shared bathroom. There seemed to be maybe three doors to bathrooms on the top floor, but only one that had the door unlocked and could be used. Which meant with everyone seeming to share the one bathroon to have showers, sometimes there would be a bit of a wait to use the toilet or go down stairs. But the bathroom was clean and good size.

Fabulous period hotel - the staircase is a real gem. The dining room is lovely & the food was excellent. This is a destination pub with super bones - show them off - great sideboards & intimate spaces.

The room could’ve done with a bit of decor & a bed head. The lighting in the chesterfield nook near the dining room bar should be dimmed to make that a very cosy & ambient space - otherwise, we loved it. Just a pity about the Keno screens everywhere.
