Very convenient central location for access to the town. We asked for a quiet room and had a lovely room on the 4th floor. Be aware there are some rooms over the bar area where on some nights there is live music. Evening meal was enjoyable and the food on offer a bit different from the normal standard boring North American menu. Breakfast is included in the price and was very good. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

As this is an older building in the centre of town parking is an issue. However the adjacent parking metres are free from 5.00pm to 9.00am the next day. On arrival guests are diverted to use the main entrance which has several steps up to the door when there is another entrance on the adjacent street which does not involve hauling a heavy suitcase up the steps. My suggestion is to make the other entrance more obvious for those arriving with bags.

Free parking for some guests and not others. I had to pay 12 dollars a day while my friend paid nothing. Parking machine ate my credit card, no way to retrieve prior to leaving. They have converted the parking lot they had into a outside Pub great for them but guests are punished re parking. I think it should be an all or nothing, free parking for all or none. I would say when booking demand free parking to ensure you get a pass if none are available check out other Hotels in the area.

The hotel was in a perfect location for exploring Nelson. There are many restaurants nearby and we were planning to have a drink in the Library Bar before looking for someplace to eat. We loved the atmosphere in the Library (with music playing), and it was hot outside so we decided to stay right there for dinner. Loved it! Also, we were lucky to arrive at a time when there was a parking space available next door and we were given a complimentary pass.

Nothing.

The Hume is a cornerstone of Nelson and has bags of character to make you feel part of a special place. There is something for everyone at this hotel which was highlighted by a very good meal on a Monday evening accompanied by a talented jazz duo. The place buzzed.

It sounds like the management are going to be cutting back on certain things to contain costs e.g the Monday night music, which would be a real shame.

We love The Hume. Except…. We have stayed a few times with our dog and were informed this put us in a room above the bar. Noise was definitely an issue but seemed the pet penalty and we dealt with it. The room was lovely, the staff was wonderful, the location is ideal for our desire to stroll Baker Street for shopping and our fav food stops. BUT (note to Booking.com folks) we recently stayed again without our dog and were placed in the same room. We were told by our first unfriendly staff member that we got the room because we booked on booking.com. We chuckled with irritation when the wifi password was “book direct”. There was a massive party all night downstairs and in the neighbouring rooms. Miss Congeniality told us if we’d booked direct we would have had a quieter room.

I could live in this hotel. It has a small spa, a huge pub, a lovely dining room with fantastic full breakfast included in the room rate, an incredible historic lounge, and an outdoor beer garden with live music... oh, and a night club/concert venue in the basement. It is full of character (and characters), and is in a fantastic location one block down from Baker St. and two blocks up from the lake. Loved that the front desk staff took time to tell us about the history of the Hume family. The bathroom in our room was gorgeous!

I chose the basic room rate. Our room, while very charming, was right above Mike's Pub. It was quiet on the week night, but quite noisy on the weekend. Next time I will upgrade to a quieter room and everything will be perfect.

I liked the staff who were excellent. I love the Heritage Inn. A wonderful breakfast is included in your stay. They have installed air conditioning since my last stay which was wonderful.

What I didn't like was that I received a worse deal by booking through Booking.com than I would have if I had just called the hotel. I have stayed there before and had a much bigger room by booking through the hotel. Also, I am a senior but couldn't get the senior rate if I didn't book directly through the hotel. Lesson learned - call the hotel and forget the third party who is trying to make money

We loved the spaciousness of the premium room, The 1898. It allowed my friend and I to have a little privacy in the evenings. The bedding was premium though the bed was a tad soft for my liking. We enjoyed soothing pedicures in the spa and delicious, deluxe breakfasts each morning, which were included. We enjoyed a yummy dinner in The Library restaurant. The architecture of the building is amazing and they have done an excellent job of preserving the heritage while offering comfort and style.

The building’s history has been preserved beautifully. The front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. Great location!

The wait staff in the General Store restaurant were less than friendly, and acted like the customers were a bother to them. The breakfast was filling, but not exceptional.

Wonderful value related to breakfast included as can choose from several 'made to order' options in a restaurant setting. We found excellent food at all three in-house restaurants we spent time at.

Confusion about nightly room rate with addition of conversion from US to Canadian dollar. Despite finding this excellent hotel via Booking.com was frustrating at end to feel bad about how we came to be at their hotel, can't book direct if don't know about hotel in first place.
