The service I received throughout my stay was OUTSTANDING! Axel and Anthony were EXCEPTIONALLY courteous, helpful and just 2 really great human beings. This trip for me was literally a mental health getaway and I was so comfortable and relaxed throughout my stay here, I left rejuvenated and ready to take on the world again! Another thing that I noted and enjoyed was that there was a mix of foreign and local (Costa Rican) guests staying in the hotel throughout my stay and all were treated equally (something I've observed is not always the same in my travels). The owner came in during breakfast some mornings and made a point of greeting everyone and asking how our stay was going (EXCELLENT). I'd definitely return to stay here again!

Breakfast offerings though good, can be improved and more varied.

Breakfast was delicious and filling, location was perfectly close to everything downtown but felt separate and quiet away from the main road. Staff was very friendly. The pools were nice, the landscaping was beautiful, seeing the iguanas every day was fun.

The wifi was terrible in our room, even close to the office no one in our group could connect unless we went to the dining area. We asked for help at the front desk only to be told "well it should be working" and never getting anything addressed. The rooms could have been cleaner, especially the floors, but it wasn't bad enough to complain about.

This is a "rustic" small hotel off the main Jaco beach strip. Location was excellent, beach, restaurants, shops within walking distance. The hotel grounds are nice and the staff was exceptional and kind. Breakfast was great. Only downside is rooms are a little dated but you have ample space with EVERYTHING you need for a short stay. I would return.

Rooms were dated with stained sheets & towels.

The property was extremely close to everything in Jaco city.

I wish there were more options for breakfast.

The location is great. A few mins walk to good supermarket with ATM, KFC, Subway should you desire. In the other direction it's a few mins walk to lots of eating places and souvenir shops. The staff were all genuine and very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely - we had pancakes. The pools are not huge but a decent size to relax in and we enjoyed them very much. We saw so much wildlife here. Beds were comfy. Nice seating area outside. It was quiet and there was air con.

For around £100 a night I found it expensive considering the things below and that is always quite disappointing - it just needs a bit of TLC and updating. For e.g. the bathroom wall was damp and peeling, a wardrobe door was missing. The shower is truly awful and almost unusable. It is either scalding or cold - It really needs to be fixed. The pool area has tiles missing on the side and the floor so you have to be careful not to hurt yourself. I really hope they can begin to update it as we felt so welcomed - it would make it a really fantastic oasis.

There was nothing not to like. We even had a huge bag of a week's traveling of laundry that they washed for free. For bird lovers, it was paridise! We took up close movies (45 minutes) of Macaws on the property or just outside the entrance. A pair was picking out a hole in a tree on the property to nest in that we photographed at about 40 feet next to the pool. Another pair came in to fight them for it. Try to get this kind of footage in a National Park. I don't think so. Spectacular X10!!! Feb. 2024

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There was a banging noise in our room and they gave us another room immediately.

Beds were very uncomfortable. There were two in the room and one was rock hard and the other was very soft (felt like the old spring box spring with a super soft mattress on top).There were no hand towels or wash clothes - just one bath towel per person. Our bathroom window was missing a pane so we had to stuff the towels in it to keep out bugs.

Our stay of 6 days was amazing. As a Dutchie it was wonderful. The owner, Victor, is a super friendly and helpful person that wants the best for you. The room was nice with almost no noise from the busy nightlife of Jaco. There is an airco which is a necessity in the dry season. The hotel feels warm and cozy. The people are friendly and always up for a chat. I'd recommend Mar de Luz to any travelers who want to be in the city centre with a relaxed place to stay! Thanks Victor for the amazing stay! Houdoe

We both do not have a big appetite in the morning. I'd say the food in de morning is okay.

Location is very close to the beach, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. Staff was very helpful and friendly, the facilities were very clean, breakfast was delicious and we saw some animals in the facilities. Bed was very comfortable and our room had hot water and a kitchen. The location is very quiet, no noise from bars or similar.

Nothing to add here, everything was perfect.

Loved the location. It's just 5 minute walk, maybe less, to the beach. The pool was great, too. There are iguanas in the trees on site! That was fun. And we saw multiple Macaws flying around in the trees. English-speaking staff (gracias). Bring your own beach towel!

There wasn't a toilet paper holder, nor was there a spot to put your stuff in the shower. No coffee in room, but there is coffee with breakfast. No laundry service available.
