Very nice room and pool and lobby and buffet restaurant. Staff is very helpful. Plenty of lounge chairs by the pool and the beach and plenty of shade if you want it. The buffet food was very good and the Japanese restaurant was excellent.

Can only eat in the Japanese or Italian restaurant for 1/3 of your days there. The beach is not conducive to swimming or snorkeling because of the undertow and rocks and high surf. It is a great spot for experienced surfers.

great location on a spectacular stretch of beach. it’s a smaller hotel so not too crowded. It has no swim up bar, so it doesn’t attract a bunch of loud mouth drunks. The rooms are large with lovely balcony’s it’s glass barrier to enhance the view of trees and the birds. The pull out drying racks are great! The beds are really comfortable. Very nice to have a safe. The service staff was very good. The food was not gourmet, but was fresh, plentiful, and for the most part very tasty. The house band was really excellent. we loved the location of the snack bar right by the beach, shaded with a never ending supply of delicious drinks and fun snacks. Finally the pool was very clean and great for doing lengths in the early morning.

We would go back to this property, having liked most everything. however, the recorded never ending music was very tiresome. Some days were better than others, but overall music from 10 am to 10 pm is too much!

I switched to this location from a different place in Tamarindo which was way too noisy (with loud music all night) and compared to that one, Occidental seemed like heaven. It all depends on what you're looking for: if you want a peaceful vacation, quiet time, but still be on the beach and enjoy the sea and sunsets, this is the place for you. I really appreciated the safety regulations for covid which were enforced properly. The food is ok, the property is big, but don't expect the usual 5* resort.

Sometimes there were huuuuge lines of people waiting to enter the restaurant. Few days I just skipped lunch because I could not stand in the line under the hot sun. Not sure why it gets so crowded (for example, if lunch starts at 12:30, people will start forming a line from 12:10).

great quiet bay not too far from the town, well designed, nice pool, room where newly renovated, staff nice, professionnel shows, clean and food was good. nice ambiance.

pillow too thick, should have Aperol Spritz and Prosecco available. less drink per person (ex: 4 days) but better quality (wine, beer, gin, rhum). More healthy snacks options. Gym equipment need to be repared.

Location and the grounds/room were all very nice.

The quality of the food.... Really of low quality/standards.... The breakfast was decent but the lunch/dinner buffet was really bad. The outside bar buffet could really be switched to an a la carte option, which would greatly increase the quality of the food put out there.

Great hotel with a private beach and a short walk (~20mins) from the centre. The pool, gym and sauna were great and staff were generally friendly.

The ceiling in my bathroom was leaking water and so was the aircon. Someone came to look at this but this wasn’t fixed during my stay. The room was very clean but a bit outdated. Buffett food options weren’t great.

- reception staff did not speak English well - WiFi internet barely works on the hotel room and disconnects inside the hotel area frequently - all the Restaurants booked for a long period in advance , we could not register for Italian restaurant during our stay

Very quiet and relaxing. Buffet was great with a variety of foods. Spa services great

kayak equipment not available but no alternative for guests. A/C in room not great and VERY humid in the room even with the unit turned on. Desserts with the buffet need some help - look nice but taste is lacking. Evening show was not entertaining.

I went with my girlfriend and we really liked the room, the hotel and the feeling of it, asides of having a great pool area, good food and being spacious. Also, it has a gym which is greatly equipped. In general, we recommend the hotel since the stay was pleasant and we enjoyed ourselves a lot.

Our first issue was that they gave us an incorrect room key, so we went and opened the door of a room which had people in it. Also, the restaurants are supposedly meant to be reserved the same day, but even when we were the first in line to make our reservation they said they were full for the next 3 days.
