I had booked an airport hotel as my trip was very short and I didn't want to spend too much time commuting but when this property popped up on Booking.com with a Genius discount I thought, this is a must-see! A major selling point was the free sauna, convenient location in the town where I had my business meetings and the great reviews about the breakfast. Upon arrival at Backby I was transported to a fairy like destination. The landscaping, the buildings, the air that was pure and fresh. Everything felt magical. I slept soundly in the firm single bed and enjoyed a superb breakfast buffet the next day! Even more special the sun was out in all it glory on my second day so I was able to enjoy breakfast on the terrace with a view of the lush Finnish forest. I sat outside for two hours in the sunshine enjoying a three- course breakfast of fresh berries with yoghurt, bread and pastries with sausages, and specially made hot chocolate! This place makes me want to return to Finland!

The one thing that was difficult was getting my luggage inside as there are several buildings interconnected internally by steps and ramps but there is no paved exterior pathway. It would have been very helpful to have a porter carry my luggage or at least have access to a trolley.

Beautiful location, friendly staff, easy accessible by bus from Espoo. Nice spa, Free bicycle rental.

I don’t value this as very negative, but I did not understand the system of room service. I was staying there for 4 night and three was no cleaning, just the towels were replaced once. Shall I order room cleaning at the reception if needed? I was there in the summer, and the room was almost too hot over night.

Peaceful location in the countryside behind a winding road - still only 32 minutes drive from downtown Helsinki. The spa facilities were basic but comfortable - what's best, the spa was included in the fairly inexpensive room rate. The breakfast was good and served in the beatiful mansion building. There was plenty of free parking and also several free e-charging spots (16A slow charging only).

The main mansion is beautiful, but the accommodation and the spa are in a separate building, which doesn't provide such great architecture. It's still fine. The room was pretty basic as the price suggests :)

The nature around was really beautiful. A lot of benches and table to sit around and enjoy great views. Really good breakfast. I liked an option to take coffee to go. The sauna was nice and not busy.

I wish the restaurant was working till later hours and was open every day. Not sure if it was just a seasonal thing, but on weekdays it was closing very early.

Very nice receptionist. She prepared/warmed up a dinner for us and served it while the canteen was closed and suggested how to pass to the pool the next morning. A separate door with a code in our wing is veey suitable.

Overall, everything was fine. Probably, in winter that's not the best place once you're not into winter sports, though.

Enjoyed the forest walks, manor house nice - food was good. The little spa is also nice (and even nicer if the sauna had been on :).

Sauna wasn't on, when I went there in the evening. TV remote control did not work (reception was already closed at that time).

Great out of town base for visiting Helsinki and the local area. The hotel itself is well equipped with everything that you may need. Lovely and quiet with a great car museum only 500meters away (and golf course, if you are into that sort of thing).

Loved the environment, nature and old manor. They had plenty of services to relax and enjoy - pool, sauna etc. Everything you need to spoil yourself. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quite alright considering the price/location.

The room was quite simple and the parking slot view did quite surprise me. I did miss some refreshments in the room, such as water, coffee or tea that you usually find in hotels. As an early bird, I didn't find any possibility to have morning coffee, not even in vendor.

It is a nice and peaceful 3 star place, but to be honest it felt better than some 4 stars. First of all, receptionists are very polite and helpful. The room is well cleaned and the bed is comfy. The breakfast is served in the old building which adds a little romance ..

It is just a friendly note to travellers ! It is not about the hotel itself, but about the location. The nearest bus is not coming every 5 minutes, so if you are using public transport, plan your trip in advance :)

It's our third time staying at Backbyn Kartano. Great place for a weekend or just take a day off. Friendly service, tasty breakfast, decent spa - everything that you need for a decent price.
