Good sized room, lovely decor acknowledging the building's heritage. Lovely reception staff. The air conditioning was wonderful during a couple of hot days. Parking is plentiful, free and easy to access. Great desk in the room with power points in accessible locations. Very comfortable bed and linen. Lighting is good and accessible. Very quiet location and soundproof room. Easy walk to all the town's best locations, restaurants, harbour and the forts. Good to see heritage buildings being repurposed vs demolition.

The WiFi was good in most places but a weak signal in our room (probably due to the thick building walls). The building is one of many heritage buildings in the old military base so it is a bit hard to find the front door on arrival. The bathroom has the dreaded psycho plastic shower curtain that attacks during a shower and the taps take up significant space in the shower so it is either a plastic rap or bruised elbows while showering. The bathroom has no shelf space for toiletries so we had to keep them in the wardrobe which was a bit annoying. Breakfast could be better as it is only a continental breakfast (no hot eggs etc). Would we stay here again if we were in town again? Definitely.

Breakfast was amazing! Many options for everyone (for example vegan cheese by request), good coffee, traditional Lappeenranta food, like karelian pie & egg butter, cheese selections, oatmeal, amazing sweet pastries, fruits. We were owerwhelmed by the selection. Also the atmosphere was amazing, very homey and cozy. The hotel is beautiful, filled with details from the past. There is simply everything a guest needs for a beautiful stay. My child very much enjoyed the playroom and its chalkboards & that lil liana swing. We also found our way to the top floor game area & took some serious boxing matches. My kid said this was the best hotel she had ever been to, and she has traveled all around Europe. I agree with her, Rakuuna goes to my top 3 hotels in Europe. And the room..we stayed at Linnakko, and completely fell in love with the room. That high ceiling and those windowsill, amazing wallpapers, gigantic comfortable bed.. Yup, we fell in love. And it was so clean, too. A big thank you to the cleaners, doing a wonderful job there. All and all we were just stunned. Rakuuna is the kind of a hotel where everything works, for everyone. Even dogs and pets are welcome and they have their own paw washing areas. Also, the common kitchen area is so practical. We could store food in the refrigerator/ boil water / heat up food etc. The grounds nearby are beautiful, old military area with those red brick buildings. The centre is very close, as are many of the sights worth seeing in Lappeenranta. Also, a big big plus for a free parking! We will return to Rakuuna every time we visit Lappeenranta.

We chose to break our return journey from Juva via Savonlinna at Lapeenranta. We weren’t sure what to expect but liked the look of this hotel, which is part of a former military barracks on the edge of the city. The outside of the hotel has an institutional look to it but the interior has been tastefully decorated and the rooms are very pleasant. Each room is named after a person who was stationed at the barracks and there’s a little bio about them on the desk. Room was a good size with individually controlled air conditioning and, wonder of wonders, a window that opened. Bed was large and linen was pristine. The bathroom is modern but I was surprised that there was shower curtain rather than shower screen, given the pricing of the hotel. Excellent blackout curtains that are needed in summer where there is daylight almost 24hrs a day. The building is solid. Very solid. This means that it’s well soundproofed from outside noise and in the halls. The second floor has a ‘relaxation area’ which is like a common room where there’s a fridge for you to leave cold items, kettle, ice machine, coffee maker tables chairs, a wide screen TV etc. They also have a separate play room for kids. On the third floor is a recreation area with small pool table, air hockey etc. Everything is in perfect condition. Breakfast is in the breakfast room on the ground floor. People have complained that the breakfast is ‘not that great’ but coming from a country where breakfast is *never* included, a breakfast of cereal & bread, cheese & ham, yoghurt & pastries, coffee and juice is a real treat.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the centre of town and if you want a leg stretch, the fort area is within walking distance. Parking is free but it is more than a bit tricky to get to the hotel, particularly with the current road works being done. Siri (Apple) led us to the address but the road is blocked by permanent bollards. Google Maps was better, getting us inside the barracks area but not to the hotel. We left the car, walked across the barracks to ask for instructions and then returned to get the car. The hotel may benefit from putting a map with clear instructions on their website on how to drive to the hotel and park.

The sauna was very good: there was a jacuzzi and the sauna was recently renovated, as was the jacuzzi area. Also in shower room there was this shower/turkish sauna thing that I did not completely decipher, but I noticed the instruction when I was leaving. So I was sorry that I arriwed to hotel so late that I did not have enough time to enjoy these properly: maybe I will come back again some day. Also there was this automatic pizza kiosk just outside the hotel, I did not use it as I had eaten before arriving. But that looked fun one too. Would it had been more light I could also have wandered around the hotel as there seems to be lots of war memoirs in the park around it. But it was harsh finnish december, soo not this time.

The place is a repurpose of an old military base, so the building is very different from what one would expect from a hotel - and for us this was a good thing. It has a strange charm. Everything is simple, but very comfortable. All works well in the room. Super comfortable. Walking distance from the center of Lappeenranta. Easy to get to and free parking available. Friendly staff.

Value for money is okay but not excellent.

The sauna and jacuzzi department is amazing as well the quietness of the hotel itself. I have stayed here multiple times and this time I was positively surprised that they have free charging for electric vehicles during your stay. The staff is always friendly and the rooms are spacious.

The breakfast could be a bit more broad with selections. And the pillows in the room could be a bit firm as well. Either than that I have nothing bad to say about this hotel.

The hotel has a very nice playroom for children and a shared kitchen, where you can have tea/coffee or microwave your food at any time. In general the hotel is very family-friendly. Also there is a pizza vending machine at the corner of the hotel, the pizzas are pretty tasty by the way. The interior is very interesting with reference to the historical background.

We had a family room and it was great for our needs! The playroom was excellent, and the breakfast was 10/10 for a cold breakfast 😊 the coffee was very good which is not always the case! Location was also quite good - easy to reach from the highway and a short walk into town.

Our room could have been better vacuumed, but otherwise all good :)

Hotel Rasmussen felt welcoming and homely. It was clean and roomy. We loved the breakfast. The location was great and it was good to have ample space for (free) parking. If we stayed longer we would have used the playroom upstairs. That was a good added bonus.

The playroom was a bit untidy, but that didn’t really bother us.

The staff was friendly. The milieu was wonderful, room was elegant, even the photo boards and wallpapers on the walls was very stylish. The game room was a nice surprise, there were many different activities. At the breakfast was a lot of little things like ginger shots, fresh carrot sticks, lemon slices for tea drinkers, a local bakeries products.
