Very nice continental breakfast with home made tea loaf, yoghurt & jams. Cheeses, cold meats. Croissants were delicious. Cereal. Bread. Orange juice. Good coffee, teas. It was lovely sharing the big table in the breakfast room with people from Holland, Spain & UK. The hostess is lovely & very welcoming. It is a delightful french house. The little parlour where you can help yourself to tea & coffee with trays to take outside or to your room is good too. Walking distance from historic city centre. Great for an overnight stop or a couple of days. Private safe parking inside gated garden. The bed was very comfortable. Lots of towels provided. Despite being on a street with cars going past it was not too busy & very peaceful sitting in the garden.

We didn't know how to get in with our car when we drove past it. It would have been helpful to know in advance. We parked round the corner & walked to press the buzzer & found out. Then we were ok.

The house and gardens are wonderful. Great attention to the decor enhances the beauty of the building. The whimsy in tbe garden makes it a fun place to be. Off the beaten track makes it a haven for birds a great place to sit in and relax. The facilites are well considered there is a guest sitting room so you can read a book and have a coffee or a cold drink. Snacks are provided too. Breakfast was a communal affair but not at all cramped. Food was excellent quality with many options to chose from. Our host was lovely although her English was limited she chatted away to us and was very knowledgeable about the area and how to get about. We found a good Italian restaurant 5 mins way and caught the bus into town it stops feet way from the gate.

Missed the gate and found 7b which made us worry till we backtracked.....

What great place to stay. We stayed 2 nights on our way home. From the beautifully arranged outdoor area with its quirky and fun ornaments, to the well placed seating areas and nooks and crannies. The interior reflects the quality and period of the house and is impressive. The bedrooms are spacious and bed comfy and big. Exceptionally clean and quiet. Add to all this a really tasty breakfast with good variety and a friendly and helpful host, who provides excellent information on the area. This is a must stay location, highly recommend it

The fact we couldn't stay longer

I booked all the rooms in L'Oustal as a stopover on the way down to the Ardeche for a special holiday with friends. I chose it a long time ahead and after lots of research, & even checked the outside 11 months beforehand as important it was suitable. I was confident it would be, but actually it was even better than expected , its a superb house built in 1860s and beautifully decorated through out, with every comfort and facility provide. Pleasant outside space and a lovely communal lounge with complimentary drinks and nibbles. Delicious and varied breakfast. This is 5* accommodation

Room was clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated. Tea and coffee was available in the drawing room downstairs. Breakfast was lovely. The hosts have obviously taken great care to ensure the property is elegant, and the town and amenities are just a short walk away. Loved the resin animals in the garden, quirky and mixed with the older stone carvings.

On arrival we could not access the property. There is a large electric gate. I pressed the buzzer, and telephoned the property twice from outside. No answer to the intercom and the telephone was on answerphone. I called Booking.com, and after a lengthy phone call which did not help, finally got through to the host (she had to collect a child from school). The gate was opened and an electronic key given over. The gate was temperamental and sometimes only half of the double gate opened, which was not enough to admit the car. Access in and out was across an cycle track, pedestrian pavement and quite a tight turn so needed care when entering and exiting.

We loved the quality and design of the property with only four rooms. It felt more boutique. Our bedroom was very French and design with doors out onto a balcony overlooking the front garden. The front garden itself was full of quirky items alongside tables and chairs to sit at when the weather is nice. It was good to have electric gates into the property so everything felt very secure. The guest lounge was very comfortable with everything that you could possibly want for making a free drink with the added extras of chocolates and cakes freely available and little trays if you wanted to take your drinks to your rooms For breakfast was lovely with a good choice and generous. The owner was very welcoming and gave us lots of details about how things worked and gave us a good tour of the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we considered it good quality that’s a very good price .

To be honest, it would be picky to put anything in this section.

Magalie is an excellent host. She is very attentive and welcoming. The bedroom was very comfortable and the additional lounge where tea, coffee and bonbons are available was a nice touch. Breakfast was good and plentiful, fresh fruit, croissants, homemade yoghurts etc. Parking is very secure. If you like individual hotel/B&B's with their own charm, L'Oustal will not disappoint. It's in an excellent position for the railway (no noise), you could walk into Bourges, but we took the car and found parking near the Cathedral.

Nothing.

Warm welcome from the owner and help with my luggage. It is a beautiful house with lovely furnishings and our room was very spacious, with a very large, comfortable bed. Very generous breakfast in the grand dining room.

The shower was rather antiquated and required rather a large step up, which wasn't ideal for someone with mobility issues. I missed having a bedside table where I could put my book and my alarm clock but that wasn't possible with the present layout, which is a shame, because it is a beautiful room.

Lovely reception by the owners family, she showed us where to park the car (within their gated area) then explained us the house, access and breakfast arrangements. Really nice people running this B&B. They have put so much effort in making it a nice place and keeping it such. Rich breakfast and superfriendly people. Great location and perfect for our purpose, midway between UK and northern spain. Better than perfect!

Shame we didnt book with them for our return journey

We were very thankful that we could leave our bags at the accommodation earlier than check in time, while we returned our rental car. Our host was very accommodating and offered great advice, even though our French was limited and so was her English! Breakfast was great, along with all the little extras that were in our room - thank you for a great stay!

There was really nothing not to dislike.
