Location. Central to everything and very easy to find. 2 minutes walk to the beach and eateries. Accommodation. Eclectic, each room is themed relating to Spy Characters. I stayed in the Tin Tin room, stayed an extra night and slept in the Nestor Burma room. Breakfast offered and is delicious. Madame Caroline is welcoming and friendly and helpful, as are her staff. Hotel Detective is so interesting and quirky, a peaceful place

Nothing, enjoyed myself here

My wife got in the room first. When I brought the luggage in the room, she told me there is no toilet in the room! I checked the hallway and there was none there either. Went downstairs to the reception and asked her how come there is no toilet in the room. She said, with a huge smile: “you need to be a better detective”. We did do a better detective job and found another room with a secret entrance. Hotel is filled with so much antique detective furniture, pictures, books, etc. The game room/library downstairs is amazing.

Clever Detective theme throughout, included a hidden bathroom and disguised television in our room. Lovely staff that offered wonderful suggestions on where to eat and things to do. Extensive breakfast selection in a well-decorated dining room. Didn't get a chance to hang out in the game room, but there were lots of options.

The weather was a bit wet, but to be expected in the spring. The bus was delayed by 3 hours so our overnight stay was a bit short. Better to stay two nights.

What we liked most about the property was the hostess at the front desk. She was more than helpful. She let us in early to store our luggage and at the end of our trip, she let us store our luggage there until we had to go to catch our bus. She also allowed my daughter to sit in the library to work after we had checked out and before we checked in. Again, the hostess was incredible!

1. Very unique decor, give you a decent vibe in etretat 2. Very good location, just next to the town's bus station. Had pharmacy and supermarket nearby 3. The staff is very nice and friendly 4. They have leisure room in lobby, where there is a wide range of tea selection, board games and books for everyone 5. They lock the front door, feels very secured (of cos they also give you key)

1. No water boiler in your room, need to go to lobby 2. Lobby's hot water bottle may get emptied if you go too late 3. Room a little bit too dim

Charming and full of character. Clean and comfortable. Owner/staff very nice. Good size space for France. Highlight is library/lounge in lobby area with coffee and tea with China cups and complimentary snack. There are MANY detective books and also books about the area. Library is open until 11 PM. Nearly all books are in French, but there are some in other languages if you look.

No elevator. if you have bags, they must be taken up the spiral staircase. Owner DID offer to help carry. If you are not strong and able bodied, I would ask when/before you make reservations. Parking not on site, but within block. inexpensive, but not included in rate. I would still stay here again! on site parking and elevators are not common in this area anyway.

It was a great stay in every way. Very unusual and truly interesting hotel. Lots to look at. And there was ongoing free tea/coffee until 11pm if you wanted it in the downstairs bar/reading room area. Breakfast was very nice, really good service and the breakfast room was really interesting and comfortable. We booked a smallish room, if we were to go back, which we’d love to, we’d splash out a bit more just for the fun of it. And the lady who ran the hotel was really helpful. We visited the Jardins which were fantastically eccentric and the top of the cliffs getting to both by the reasonably priced small train (€7 return each). In addition, there are some fabulous fish and other restaurants around and the tourist shops are a pleasure to go into - we weren’t hassles in any way. All in all, we had an all round fun stay - loved it!

Can’t think of anything!

The salon with tea & coffee & table games was a nice way to end the day. Hotel is full of nice details, surprises around every corner. My kid liked the breakfast (French pastries, cheese, croissants, etc), I had a just coffee which was really not good. Something to improve. But overall an interesting place with a friendly, hospitable host.

1. Coffee- both at breakfast, and in the salon is really really not good 2. As the hotel is full of antique furniture and other stuff, there is a quite heavy, old furniture smell once you enter the hotel. A better ventilation would definitely help to improve this.

Unusual concept, owners obviously made a great job arranging the design. Liked a lot common living room/bar- chess, cross cross, other games and intellectual entertainment.

Be ready that hotel is tiny, has a bit of an “odeur” , but it is typical to old buildings.
