The hotel is centrally located with many restaurant options within a few steps. The impressive Cathedral de Saint Etienne is just across the plaza. A free "navette" (shuttle) can be caught at the street corner for easy transportation around the city, including to the train station. It is a safe place for a woman traveling alone. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Some of the staff speak more English than others, but that's to be expected. They were very helpful in arranging a taxi to the station. The breakfast buffet is wonderful - local breads, cheeses, and hams, fresh, ripe fruit. Cafe au lait -- really lovely. Everything was very clean, and my room was air-conditioned, which is a huge plus in the summer and not to be taken for granted in Europe. My room was small, but fine for a single traveler. The bathroom was super clean and newly renovated.

I was in the Annex building, which was fine but felt a bit disconnected from the main hotel. I was there for three nights, but the room did not receive any maid service.

The location is superb. The room was very clean and spacious for the price. It's very good value for money. The bathroom was nicely tiled and very clean. The room was cleaned everyday and to a very good standard. Having wooden flooring is so much nicer in a hotel. The breakfast is excellent and there is a wide range of choice. Would definitely recommend.

The room which was in the annexe was too dark and with it being ground floor it was a bit cold. However there is a fan heater and A/C. Although the bathroom was nice, better lighting is needed especially above the mirror which was too dim. The shower itself had better lighting. The curtains barely closed and the windows didn't open wide which meant no fresh air was getting into the room. Moreover a ground floor room makes it impossible to leave a window open while not in the room. The mattress was very lumpy and not comfortable. As I had booked in advance I think the hotel could have informed me that the room was not in the main hotel building.

Nice spacious room. Toilet and bathroom were separate little rooms, which was a nice surprise. Staff was friendly and the location of the hotel is also very good.

The staff in the breakfast room could have been a little bit more „welcoming“ in a sense of guiding us better, like should we just sit down or should be wait for someone to ask for our room number and assign us a table? Where would be get coffee/juice - should we help ourselves at the bar or should we wait for table service? We were standing around a little bit lost a first, but the quality of the breakfast was good!

Ideal location next to the Cathedral and a few minutes walk away from many restaurants and bars. Disocunted fare for parking use. The Cathedral parking is 2-minutes walk. My bed was very comfortable and I really liked the bathroom, new and clean.

The common spaces could use a refresh, the hallways are a bit messy and there is always a strong food smell at the entrance and up the stairs. No safe. No lift, which was not a problem for me, but bear this in mind if you travel with a heavy suitcase

Staying the Hotel de la Cathedrale was such an amazing experience that I can only wholeheartedly recommend. We were greeted with a warm and friendly smile upon arrival and then personally escorted to our magical room on the top floor under the wooden beams of the ancient roof with the most perfect view of the stunning 14th century Cathedral. We had requested a view of the Cathedral and a view we got. The breakfast buffet was nice and varied, the service impeccable, and the fruit display a veritable piece of art. There was a bit of noise from the street in the evening, but that's to be expected when one stays in the heart of a lively city. There's an impressive choice of restaurants within walking distance from the hotel and then of course all the amazing historical sites in and around Metz. I fell in love with Metz and will definitely stay at the Hotel de la Cathedrale next time :-)

No complaints. The hotel exceeded my expectations.

The location was excellent: very central. A few yards from the cathedral. It couldn't be beaten! The old-style building had its charm. We were based in the annexe. The lady who greeted us and showed us our room, Annalise was very kind and helpful explaining about the key and codes to the door. There was a kettle in the room with tea and coffee. There was also free water from reception.

Nothing really but the air con/heating did not efficiently keep our lovely high-ceilinged room warm. There was no milk with the tea. But we had no problem drinking tea black!

I loved the charm of this hotel and the quality customer service I received from the staff. They made me feel comfortable and welcomed. The bed was wonderful and the wifi was fast. I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the breakfast due to my schedule, but I heard it was great! I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to future travelers who are visiting Metz.

Being a 400+ year old building on the historic list means there is little the owners can do to make major improvements Check in was easy. Our room was in the annex a couple doors down from the main entrance. A few items leading to the room could stand to be refurbished, such as the stairs and carpet runner on them. Those same items however, gave the hotel character. The access the annex rooms one needed needed to pass through two doors, each requiring a code. The room was large and had an intimate and historic feel to it. The period style furnishings added to that feeling. Our room overlooked the cathedral. The bed was uncomfortable to us, but would be fine to others. The bathroom was actually two rooms. One had the toilet while the other had the sink and tub. This is somewhat common in this part of Europe and wasn’t the first room we’ve been in that had that setup. There was a hand held sprayer, but no shower curtain, so one needed to be careful of where it was pointed. It did have a kettle for boiling water, but no safe or small refrigerator. There is supposedly air conditioning, but after turning it on we didn’t notice a difference or even hear the fan blowing. An email from the hotel said one can stop in front to drop off luggage, then go to a nearby parking garage. The issue with that is, the hotel is in a restricted driving zone with bollards prohibiting entry. After trying a couple different ways, we just went to the parking garage that is a 4 minutes walk from the hotel. We opted to pay 12€ for breakfast. It was typical European and had plenty of fresh fruits and bread items, eggs, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, tea, juice, coffee. The hotel is located across from the cathedral and near plenty of restaurants. Also, the are two free shuttle busses (N81, N83) that go around different parts of the city. They are like a free hop on, hop off bus and run about every 15 minutes.

The room I’ve had was really big and had AC which was wonderful during the heat wave. It also had coffee and tea making facility. The hotel is centre of town but the room was facing into the back court yards so it was pretty much silent at night

There is no lift so if you disabled the upper floors are not accessible. Also the breakfast was adequate but not amazing - standard continental breakfast.

Lovely old-style hotel with nice decoration throughout the building. Receptionist was welcoming and helpful. Our room was just the right size, with a beautiful old fireplace still part of the decor. Location was right across from the cathedral and within easily walking distance to the town area. They have discounted parking with the undercover car parks nearby, so very convenient.

Our room faced out to the back alley and we could easily hear people speaking and yelling from below. We were tired and slept well, so not really an issue, but might be good to sound proof the windows if possible.
