Spacious, modern, large windows, floor-heating, quietly located nearby a lake. Every room accessible from outside, and everyone of them with a very pleasant seating area right in front, with half of them with a view of the lake. Every room with a fridge! Big enough for 2 ltr bottles. Relatively small hotel, with 16 rooms only. Breakfast well above average! All fresh, great choice. Complimentary coffee and tea in the restaurant 24/7. Supermarkets down town

Tele not working, but hotel staff immediately helped with a support device!

This is a beautiful hotel in a stunning location. It's close enough to Egilsstadir for the convenience, but is surrounded by nature, overlooking the lake. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped, view was amazing. The hotel has a hot tub overlooking the lake as well. Really thoughtfully laid out and designed. The staff were amazing. Dinner was really high quality, and breakfast was the same. I would stay again next time I visit this part of Iceland!

I wish I'd booked two nights instead of just the one!

This was a lovely little hotel/motel about 6km from town. It's off the main road along a well maintained track - plenty of parking close to rooms. The rooms are easily accessed from outside by a concrete path. The hotel is on a hill above the lake with good views from outside. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was compact but well designed with good decoration and handy wardrobe space. The bathroom was quite large and very good. Bed and bedding were very comfortable. There is a restaurant and we decided to have dinner there - small menu but all the food was very good, small wine list but fine. Breakfast though was on another level - the best brekky we had on the Ring Road trip - great homemade breads and jams, waffles, meats, cheese - not flash but very wholesome.

Nothing material.

This is a small hotel in a quiet location overlooking the lake, the staff are friendly and made us feel welcome. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast - in all of our Iceland trip we spent the most time enjoying this breakfast and not rushing. We also enjoyed the hot tub under the stars.

For a hotel that is so well designed, there are some things that could be more thoroughly thought through, for example, the lighting in the room is not great and the bathroom only has daylight lighting options, no cosy, warm light, also there is no ventilation in the bathroom, so you need to open a window in the room, however, the only window that opens is small, so you might need to use the door. The hot tub is also a great idea, but in our case the water was not hot enough, so we didn't stay as long as we would have liked.

Very central location. Parking is not always available. Paid parking at $3 / hour can be found around the hotel area. P1, P2&P3 parking is free from 6 pm to 9am in Reykjavik. The hotel is modern and I loved the art. Beautiful spa with steam room, dressing room, refreshment station, and spa pool. The room was a deluxe double and beautiful with plenty of space and a big lounger couch. Coffee Station was welcome. Note that the bar fridge is on the small side. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection.

Parking is not always available. Which is understandable for this central area. We were lucky to get parking in front of the hotel but had to pay from 3 pm to 6 pm. Thereafter, it was free till 9 am. Small price for great location. We were there in April and it was quiet so I'm not sure if the area will get noisy in summer.

VERY clean and modern, with great views. Property is VERY well kept! We loved the wall of windows. Privacy was not an issue as there were drapes that pulled across the entire wall. Staff was very friendly, professional and attentive.

Not necessarily the fault of the proprietors, as there are sulfur smells all over Iceland, however it was quite overwhelming in the bathroom. We kept the bathroom door closed, to help diminish the odor in the main living area.

The hotel is just outside of Egilsstadir. The area is very pleasant with nice views. Unfortunately, when we stayed it was cold and rainy. Still, we found sitting in our room was so comfortable even with the weather. It would have been even nicer if the weather had cooperated. There are 2 hot tubs available. Despite the cold and rain, we decided to try them and they brought us fluffy robes and slippers. A small waterfall is on property and a short walk. The onsite restaurant was good with a typical set of main courses but more limited starters and desserts. Breakfast included had a small but adequate selection. They have a golf cart you can use to bring your bags to your rooms which is good to have since the doors are to the outside and the pathways are not paved. Weather did not cooperate for northern lights, but it was well situated for viewing. The most expensive per night of the places we stayed in Iceland but still a good value.

Having to go outside to reach the restaurant (because it was cold and rainy for us).

Staying at this hotel was one of the most important stays of our time in Iceland. After we had settled in upon check-in, Kristin, at the front desk, enquired of our plans and we indicated our interests. She proceeded to use a couple of websites that would become central to our daily planning from then on, and which every tourist should know about, how to use, and how to apply the information. https://en.vedur.is is about the weather – wind, temperature and precipitation – over time. Since the weather can be extremely variable, and since so many roads are mountain passes, knowing what the wind is forecast to be helps one make sensible decisions. https://Umferdin.is/en shows road conditions, road closures, some weather and traffic conditions, and if you are zoomed in enough you can also find webcam images of particular sections of road, updated regularly. http://vegasja.vegagerdin.is/eng is the third useful site which also shows webcams, wind direction and speed ranges, but more importantly shows which roads are paved and which are gravel. NOTE: wind speeds in Iceland are talked about in m/s. 15m/s is 54 kph. Kristin's guidance helped us travel safely from this point on given Iceland's fickle weather. Our room 11 was very comfortable, bathroom notes below notwithstanding. Breakfast in the restaurant was filling and the freshly made pan omelette was delicious. The location is very scenic and peaceful, and drive times to sites of interest were all reasonable. Kristin also went to great lengths to contact us about an item we left behind and to send it to us. Would definitely stay here again!

The accommodation in Room 11 was very spacious, although, as we found in many places, there was insufficient space to open both of our hard suitcases on the luggage space. Floor it had to be. There was also no kettle and, as we knew, the TV was essentially just a monitor. The bathroom was small and largely functional however the shower had no door and the orientation of the shower head meant that water went everywhere. Unless the shower stall is deep and the shower head is at the enclosed end, there is no merit to the idea that showers like this need no door.

Very nice location few km away from the nearest city. Very clean and modern designed rooms. All the rooms are on the ground floor, access from outside of the building. We had rooms on the back but from the front rooms you can see the lake. Very good breakfast and tasty dinner too.

The access path to the rooms passes in front of the windows and if you want a minimum of privacy, you have to stay with the curtains drawn. The rooms are not well ventilated and there is no A/C and because of this it was too hot. This is a problem that the architect ignored...

A definite highlight of our Ring Road trip. After a boat trip on glacier lagoon and dramatic drive along the eastern fjords, Hotel 1001 was a treat from start to finish. Warm welcome, great room and view over the lake with a short walk to the (very) hot tub. Dinner - lamb and arctic char - spectacular and memorable. Breakfast too - delicious omelette made to order. Everyone very friendly. Left relaxed and recharged to continue north on ring road after a worthwhile detour via Hallormsstaðaskógur national forest. Thank you.
