We had a wonderful stay at the wilderness center, highly recommend it! They called us before arrival to see if we'd like dinner, upon arrival they upgraded us to a private room and it felt like we were staying at a good friend's farm house. The sauna was perfect after a day of driving and hammocks are good for reading a book while the fire warms you. Really cozy. In the morning we checked out the museum included in the price and learned a lot. Coffee was great and the staff very friendly. Thank you for everything!

Really cosy family business. Awesome set up, we slept in the "dorm" which is basically how the family used to sleep. They let you go through the museum with audiotour included. Very nice stay and I've learned a lot about the life of the typical Islandic family. Great food too, we took the family style dinner and it's a recommendation!
Hot tub is under construction and was not available, but the text on booking.com was not updated.

The highlight for us here was the wonderful staff. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. It's the only place we've stayed at in Iceland so far where we chatted with the staff after hours. The place is a bit quirky (in a good way) and is in a beautiful valley. It was great to share meals around tables with other guests. Even the horses were friendly!
There was a bit of noise from other guests but most people went to bed and got up around the same time so it wasn't really an issue.

This was a really fun stop on my tour around Iceland. The drive to the location is great. I slept above the museum (or in the museum it felt like) in shared space which resembled a Viking longhouse with beds separated by half walls. I was expecting this but it seemed some of the other guests were put off and did not realize this was what they signed up for. Everything was clean and wonderfully decorated 'like a museum' The sauna building was fantastic. Bathrooms were also nicely designed in a sort of rustic aesthetic but remained very modern and functional. I loved the place. They also do horseback riding which I signed up for the next morning. I did not purchase the dinner but did sign up for the breakfast which was a buffet spread and was delicious and a chance to mingle with other guests. Sheep roamed the property and the odd sheepdog came to visit.
Unfortunately at the time I visited the hot pool was not hot and the main lights in the building did not work. They had some electrical malfunctions so these will likely be resolved soon. It just added authenticity to the period style of the accommodations :). The outlets did work so there were a few lamps to use as well as being able to charge devices.

The hotel will give you a taste of traditional living in Iceland. We stayed in the main building where they served breakfast. The interior was decorated as though you were living in the 1940s. The hosts were very cordial and friendly. They gave us a history of the place, which was very helpful in understanding the theme. The breakfast was incredible. We thought that we would not buy but after looking at the setup, we changed our mind and loved it. The location and views were mesmerizing. It is a detour to go there, but well worth it. The drive to go there is paved except for the last few minutes. I don't think you need a 4x4 to go there.
The rooms were tiny. The property didn't have any kitchen facilities. If you arrive very late, you will not have a kettle to heat water for noodles. We stayed in upstairs rooms and the stairs up were very narrow, so it was a little difficult to take our heavy suitcases up.

Nested within the pure icelandic nature this is a real gem for all of you out there who plan to make some hikes or rides and probably stay more than one night. But even that single night was just about right as there's everything there/offered you need (and more). We did not have dinner with the group as we arrived late but it smelled very good and the guys seemed to enjoy it. The room was not that big but it served well for our purpose. The house is really nicely refurbished and kept tidy and running. The common areas (bathroom, etc.) are well treated and proper. In case you pick this one, also go for the breakfast!
Of course, this is absolutely not the fault of the guest house but I'd like to post it as the guys causing this probably would read it as well?! It was absolutely annoying that other guests started to slam doors and talk in an unnecessaryly loud tone with each other in the middle of the night as they were obviously preparing for their day. Rude and disrespectful to all the others...

Unique guesthouse with a distinctive aesthetic. Very tasty breakfast at a reasonable price, very clean and comfortable. We received prompt and courteous responses to every request from the staff.
The location can be restrictive if your schedule is very tight, but the route to the guesthouse is fantastic.

Coziest farmhouse experience. Home-cooked meal and great interaction with the staff. Probably best authentic Icelandic food that we had our whole trip. Staff also notified us that we could see the Northern Lights outside. Extremely accommodating. Also loved the museum and sauna.
Wish we came in a different season so we could use the bath & possibly do horseback riding! Overall, lovely experience.

This place is beautiful, unique and situated in such a gorgeous part of Iceland. It was such a cool experience to stay here and I loved the hot spring and sauna facilities. The dinner and breakfast (additional charges) were so so so delicious and the vegetarian option was amazing. The cinnamon mini pancakes were SO GOOD! I’m still thinking about them!!! The staff are so kind and lovely and super helpful. My friend and I only stayed for one night but it was one of my favourite places I’ve ever stayed. Could not recommend more highly!
