We were upgraded by wife and son and me to the next level of room. It was large and comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast had a wide and varied offering. The three of us had paid for this and we enjoyed the morning meal.

What was a downer was the banana leaf vegetable meal we had soon after we checked in. There was no rhythm to the serving of the courses. We kept waiting and waiting. The servers weren't able to answer basic questions about what was being served. They seemed raw and untrained and the food felt stale. At 500 rupees a person it was a huge let down. We sat down at 3.15 or thereabouts in the afternoon. Maybe they had run out of food ? I don't know.

After a disappointing experience at ITC Fortune, I decided to book a stay at Southern Star Hotel nearby, and it turned out to be a great decision. The pricing was affordable, and while I initially had doubts about the services, I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional experience. The staff were highly professional and attentive, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the hotel offered ample parking space. The highlight of my stay was the delicious food, which exceeded all expectations. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend Southern Star Hotel to anyone looking for quality service and comfort at a reasonable price.

I loved my greeting from the doorman when I arrived (every time) the happiest staff member and he made me smile each time. The entrance was quite grand and the Reception staff were very polite and professional, the bell man was kind and gracious. The hotel seems as if they have refurbished, my room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable, the bathroom was old and the exhaust fan not working plus the room stunk like cigar smoke (cleaning staff came in and sprayed, but the smell kept returning). The outdoor gardens are well established and maintained, the pool is large and clean, love the deep end. The poolside restaurant Gardenia has relaxed ambience, awesome staff and a great menu. The outdoor lighting and the beautiful tree make for a great dining experience. The main restaurant has a great breakfast buffet. Great location.

The pool closes at 6pm and is also used for swimming training / lessons for children, so the guests can't use the pool. Then the children stay and play, its not relaxing or tranquil for paying guests staying at the hotel. I accidentally left by swimwear in the bathroom, so when I departed, my room wasn't checked. I have sent messages requests and rang many times to have these sent back to me, and I'm yet to receive a response. Not the hotel, but the guests staying especially some children in particular running up and down the corridors screaming and tapping on the walls at 6am in morning. The same children were also left to their devises after dinner one evening creating a loud and unpleasant experience, its okay for the staff to tell their parents to actually parent.

Check in was smooth and uneventful. We were given 410 on the 4th floor facing the pool and a view of the railway station. Room: The bed is super comfortable and the room is sufficiently spacious. The closet door is weirdly designed, where both doors can't be opened at once. The only renovation we could see was some painting around the room and changing the electric panels. Due to the renovation, the breakfast area was packed, and incurred some delays if getting dosas. Lunch here is great for ala carte, but quite pricey for a buffet at 1060 Rs. per person. Stay was nice, overall, and great if you're here for fun.

There is renovation happening, both inside the main restaurant, and outside. The safe wasn't working but we were given a replacement. The room gets only 2 water bottles for free per day, and it's advisable to get housekeeping done daily due to the dust. The bathroom was clean, but there was a bad smell from the drain under the sink. It either went away in 1 day, or we got used to it. Doesn't look like there was much/any work done on the washrooms. The internet isn't fast, so if you're working, good luck.

Good value for money, pretty close to most of the major attractions in mysore city like zoo,palace etc. Rooms allotted and the facilities inside the room were quite good. Decent restaurants, good helping staff,room services 👏, food

There is no online app to order stuff from the restaurant, you need to call for everything, this could be improved. Some of the in-house equipment like fridge was not working, but they did replace it after we called the front desk,room cleanliness could be improved

I booked this hotel two minutes before I checked in and they gave me a wonderful rate. The front desk manager Mr. Stephen was not only charming but also a very helpful and extremely cooperative person. He helped us arrange for a car in thirty minutes, for us to go shopping. He also helped us with a car for the trip around Mysore. But the best part was ensuring a smooth check out. He just took five minutes to settle all the bills, and ensured that we had a smooth exit from the hotel as we had a flight to catch from Bangalore. The food was also sumptuous and the buffet spread was amazing. Since we were a group of four women travellers, the person at the front desk was very sweet to offer us an interconnected room. That added a bunch of happiness to.our stay. Cannot thank Southern Star more. My friend and her daughter from Warsaw said that they had the most brilliant stay in India at Mysore.

This is my third visit to Southern Star & now it feels like home! Courteous staff, yummy food, clean, spacious & comfy rooms. The breakfast buffet was delicious. Mr. Raj is so cooperative & he gave us one of the best rooms. Bellboy Yesu & waitress Chandana are extremely polite. My stay in Southern Star has always been memorable.

There was a suspicious lady loitering around in the hotel premises & the lobby for hours. I also heard that she was borrowing money from people. She looked scary & was extremely untidy. She even used the restroom. The security & staff have to be more alert. The management should take strict action against such people because she could have attacked anyone in the restroom for money.

The breakfast at their restaurant Zest was fantastic. There's a great variety of Indian and Continental food available plus fresh fruits, tasty coffee/tea and the most adorable, welcoming and supportive staff both at the restaurant and the reception. They've got a baby high chair at the restaurant and a baby cot which was really helpful for us as we traveled with a 10 months year old. The hotel is close to the railway station and within walking distance to some good restaurants. Auto riskshaws are available directly in front of the hotel gateway.

The overall cleanliness is sufficient, however, it could be improved. We had to point out to the housekeeping some areas to be cleaned properly.

Southern Star is one of the best hotels in Mysore. I stayed here in the month of September & this is my second visit. The rooms have been renovated, they are spick and span, beds have been replaced & they are super comfy. I had booked two rooms & misplaced my gold chain in one of the rooms. I thank Mr.Raj, Praveen & all the other staff members for their cooperation. Chandana, who works in the restaurant is so courteous & helpful. One of the sweetest lady I have ever met!

The staff at the reception were very courteous & cooperative when I visited last time. But I’m a little disappointed with the present staff.

We loved the comfort and facilities this hotel provided. Food was excellent amazing value. Lovely pool. The room we had on 5th floor was newly renovated, large, comfortable bed and mini bar. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Always greeting us with a smile. Complimentary Yoga was a bonus each morning. Walking distance to many must see places in Mysore. If you love nature take a stroll around the nearby Kukkaraharri Lake before dusk to experience flocks of birds and fruit bats.

The staff at Reception when we arrived were not very welcoming. A warm smile means a lot and doesn’t take much effort especially when you are not busy. 😔
