perfect location , very clean and hygienic , will go again

the cleaning starts at 10 a.m. and everyone has to leave their rooms for a couple hours. not perfect for summer holidays where you stay out late and would like to sleep in. also if you’re used to staying in hotels -where you choose when you wake up rather than the staff choosing for you- , this is not ideal. but at least everything was very clean everyday.

I arrived by FlixBus and the hostel was a ~25 minute walk from the bus stop. It’s a flat walk, and can be done via mostly main streets so it’s very doable. Hostel is a short walk to Sassi - felt safe walking back to the hostel of a night. Small supermarket close by. Overall a great location. Hostel was clean. Bed/dorm basic but nice. Lockers provided however, it didn’t fit my 55L backpack in it. Room was big enough though to allow space for bags. Staff friendly and can make stove-top meals in the kitchen. Had no issues with the WIFI during my stay.

• There was a portable air-conditioner in the room however, I didn’t find this to be super effective. The room was too hot for me personally. • 2 toilets and 2 showers provided in the female dorm however the shower screens/layout isn’t fully private. There’s some black out contact stuck to only parts of the shower screen. The hook is also outside of the shower. Can work around this though if you prefer more privacy.

The Rock Hostel is situated in a fantastic location, just a short distance from the Sassi of Matera. The staff was absolutely wonderful, particularly Peter, who assisted me in finding the airport bus timetable and departure point. He was also kind enough to store my backpack on my last day and let me stay until the late bus departure. As for the room, it was impeccably clean and very comfortable. Overall, my stay exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend this hostel!

I had been in Matera before, so I really wanted to come back. The Rock Hostel is "about" 15-20 minutes away from bus or train, but a very manageable walk. Its location is perfect, right at the edge of the Old Town. There's a fully stocked grocery store next door (bonus !!!) ...the kitchen/reception/social area is pretty spacious & kept very very clean. Each bunk has its own plug, light, etc & a reasonably size locker. The bathroom is very clean; good showers; the staff come & clean it every morning. I would definitely recommend & I would definitely return! As a solo traveler I felt very safe & comfortable ... . . .. . . nicely quiet, I can imagine spending more time there. The staff, very friendly & warm -------- and kudos to them, they try very very very hard to make sure everyone is happy! <3

curtains around the bed would be nice -- I stay up late reading, so I was conscious that I'd be keeping the others awake w/ the light. The only "little" thing was that my bus connection was suddenly delayed by 2 hours & I was worried I would not get there by 8:00pm, so, I was nervous about what would happen. Perhaps impliment a "late check-in policy" & charge the person a bit more for late check in, in case of emergency...?!?! Just an idea for the future!!!

We had the best time in matera thanks to this lovely hostel. It is in perfect location, next door to a supermarket and less than a 5 minute walk to the stunning old town. The staff were so helpful and friendly and the kitchen facilities were perfect for what we needed.

Only issue was that the dorm was incredibly warm and the aircon didn’t seem to change the temperature, but we highly recommend this hostel for anyone looking to stay in Matera.

Amazing stay! Clean rooms with secure lockers and an incredibly nice bathroom. Perfect walking distance to the Sassi. The guy who checked me in (I think he may be the owner or manager? sorry i forget) was so kind and sat down with me and a map and gave me amazing recommendations. I also loved that they provided a QR code for food and drink recs! Definitely would stay here again, loved my stay in Matera.

The communication before I arrived was slightly confusing in terms of dropping off my bag and so I was a bit unsure if someone would be there to open the door because of the front desk / cleaning timing. But luckily they were very accommodating and it worked out great!

In the hostel, great attention is paid to hygiene and discipline, which gives it a big plus! It is in an excellent location, clean, tidy and without noise. Basic equipment that meets all the needs of travelers - optimally organized! The warm and simple hosts who are always ready to help give the hostel a special warmth. Valeria and Peter are professional and informative.

The staff is amazing, super friendly. There's a kitchen and open space with all that you need. The beds were fine with lights and electrical socket. The bathroom and shower offer enough privacy I don't know why there are some comments complaining about this. I guess some people never went to the gym to take a shower...

Location was good. Very friendly staff, good communication. Very clean.

Unfortunately my experience was saddened by the unscrupulous person who served themselves from my cash. Please, please be careful and always lock away your things, even when you are taking a short shower. There are bad apples everywhere. It is not the hostel's fault (I really should trust humans less), but with the amount I was stolen, I could have stayed in a nice studio :| Personally, I would have appreciated an extra hanger near the shower cabin (one for clothes, one for towel) and maybe a waste basket in the toilet in the female dorm (there was one in the sink area though)

I was very lucky, since the dorm that I was put in was empty. so I basically had a room to myself! Very nice. The hostel was very clean, well equipped kitchen. Staff was great, especially Pietro. Kudos to him. Really, nothing to complain about. Very convenient to the historical area, and all the things to be seen.
