The sauna and bath are great. The futon is great. The breakfast starts at 7am but I check-out early at 630am because the bus from Takasagodai-8-chome departs at 7.11am. They allow early breakfast anyway. The breakfast was delicious. The staff did not understand English but very quick thinking to use Google translate - no major issue.

The location is reachable by bus 53/630 at bus stop Takasagodai-8-chome. Checked with the Asahikawa Tourist Center. They mentioned to me that I should get off at Takasagodai-Iriguchi which was 800m downhill from the Takasago Onsen bus stop (Takasagodai-8-chome). My fault because I didn’t confirm with the hotel first. So, after walking uphill for +800m with huge backpack, asking 3 locals who were kind enough to give me the direction.

Going to takesagoonsen is like visiting the Japan in Showa time, but with modern communication ease. The staff are helpful and manage to talk in simple English so that it makes our stay very convenient. They also have a nostaglic shop and game corner at the 1st floor and I am 100% sure everyone will like it, from kids to grandparents. The onsen is fantastic. The hotel caters for everyone's need to explore the Showa Japan culture.

There is no breakfast available from the restaurant: but I am sure if more clients request it, they will have it later.

Great amenities, there were a lot of areas to explore in the Ryokan and it was kept very clean. They have a DDR machine (note the opening hours though) and a manga shelf (which is cool even if we couldn't read Japanese). The futon and chairs are comfortable and the rooms are gorgeous. The onsen has some unique baths, and an outdoor pool area looking out to the city. The staff are very nice, note also they only speak Japanese, and I got the impression this is a stay frequented more by locals than tourists.

The ryokan is quite old (eg the floor of the onsen is very slippery, and some parts of the hotel show signs of wear and tear). You are given only one key for each room, and it would have been nice if breakfast was included. In terms of convenience, you can get to the Ryokan from Asahikawa station via an hourly bus that takes half an hour to get there, else taxi/driving is your next best bet to getting around.

-Really traditional room with tatami flooring and futon -Many pools to choose from -Many other options for entertainment, like ping-pong tables, arcade game machines, and a manga corner

-A bit far from the station -There are some signs telling how old the building is, but honestly, it's more charming than anything

This is the perfect place to stay in Asahikawa, we loved it. We had a huge room, tatami beds. But what a place. The retro arcade room rocks, so many classics in there. The onsen has a huge number of baths in it all different temperatures and was so relaxing. The facility is lovely.

Nothing, I guess the place is a little old but that doesn't matter at all.

This is an awesome onsen, has a really cool theme, a manga library, retro themed stuff, and then the baths... they have all sorts of multicolored baths and an outdoor one if you go through a tiny door up onto the roof. rooms were super spacious and decently comfy though it definitely shows it's age.

Japanese styles onsen. Good for family groups. Traditional and old fashioned rooms are interesting. Japanese breakfast and meals available.

A little bit hard to find on the bus route in winter time. But the tourist office at the railway station can give you exact details.

I really like this traditional Japanese style hotel! Super friendly staff!! I am really touched by their nice service! The night view is good!

The hot spring facilities are quite old, I think it is needed to fix

The room was a spacious tatami room, good for a family. It had room for 4 futons. Medium (not small) refrigerator. Hot springs were good. Parking was convenient.

The room was rather expensive. We didn't try the breakfast or meal, so can't say anything about the meals.

So many different Onsens.

Food at the restaurant didn’t have any fish dishes. Meat only. Need some senior friendly meals.
