The room was spacious with nice natural lighting and a very strong heater. The location was great with Sainokawara park practically next door and a few popular restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the accomodation. Miki-san was a lovely host and made me feel at home. The traditional Japanese style breakfast was also delicious.

Amazing experience (I stayed 3 nights). - amazing staff (in particular the lady in charge who speaks English and is very helpful (how to wear a yukata, how to bath in onsen, explaining local delicacy) - location: walking distance from everything but also a more charming place than traditional downtown kusatsu hotel (especially next to the park) - food ! Please book breakfast and at least try dinner once (very generous 12+ courses even if more pricey than regular plate but quality and quantity were insane) - large rooms with futon and beautiful view (only 10 rooms in this hotel), Onsen quiet and always on - yukata + kimono

Nothing I hope to comeback one day

If you are looking for a hotel for your stay at Kusatsu Onsen, look no further than Kusatsu Hotel Bekkan Wata no Yu. My family and I recently stayed here for three nights and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is run by Miki and her husband who are both lovely. I spoke mostly with Miki but from the first, she was so kind and responsive to any questions we had. To get there, we took the express bus (pay at the end of the ride and you can pay by credit card) from Karuizawa Station which drops you off at the Lawson Kusatsu Bus Terminal (1.5 hour ride) and from the bus terminal it is about a 15 minute walk to the hotel. Although the town is pretty small and everything is fairly close, the hotel is conveniently located a short six minute walk from the main square where the yubatake is located (all of those pictures you see online of the big hot spring when you look up Kusatsu Onsen). On the way to the yubatake, you walk through Sainokawara Street which is where a lot of the shopping and restaurants are concentrated. Each room at this hotel has its own toilet and sink but bathing is done in the hotel’s public onsen (separate men and women’s facilities) on the first floor. Since the bathing facilities are shared, we did have overlap with other hotel guests when using the hotel onsen. For an additional charge you can order breakfast and/or dinner but be sure to order ahead of time to make sure they can accommodate your request. Miki’s husband is the chef and we tried breakfast and dinner and they were both delicious and definitely a must try experience. Traveling tip: a lot of the restaurants are closed on Wednesdays so if your stay includes a Wednesday, that’s a great day to schedule your meals at the hotel. We didn’t want to deal with the bus on the day we were leaving so we took a taxi back to Karuizawa Station which Miki helped us book the day before.

Where to begin … ? After 5 crazy days in Tokyo, i went to Kusastu in order to relax and soak in the thermal hot springs. Staying at Watanoyu Annex was the best decision ever. Miki and her husband run this beautiful establishment (perfect combination of traditional & modern). Miki speaks perfect english and will immediately make you feel warmly welcome. I got lucky enough to get a room facing the river … this relaxing sound would get me to sleep like a baby every night. After visiting all the onsen of Kusatsu, it was always a pleasure to get to the hotel’s onsen for some quiet time before dinner! You would get a fresh set of towel & a yukata (kimono) everyday, as well as a toothbrush & a pair of socks. Finishing with the sauna and cold bath got me so relaxed every time ! Miki’s husband will cook the most incredible breakfast & dinner for you ! Some of the most tasty and poetic meal i’ve ever had… The tasting menu will be printed for you ! Such a nice attention ! I really enjoyed the tiny flower bouquets in every corner of the hotel. So subtle and poetic. The real japonese elegance ! They are really devoted to their business and it shows. I cant wait to come back with my family for some more relax time :)

The property is modern with a Japanese touch, very comfortable and the view from the room is very nice. The room is spacious and there is an indoor onsen to relax after going out the whole day. Breakfast is also good. The location is convenient, an interesting walk to the Yubatake with a number of snack places and restaurants, an interesting walk to the centre of Kusatsu. A famous outdoor onsen place is located 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel, you can walk through the garden, definitely worth visiting. The biggest attraction of the hotel is the service, Miki san, exceptional service, very hospitable and assist us immensely during our stay. We had a flat tire and she helped us a lot to get it sorted which is very important as she is fluent in English and can help us to communicate with the repair shop.

I loved the onsen. There was one bath with water flowing from the town which is cloudy and another with water flowing from the mountains which is clear. Each felt different. I tried both and each was very hot. Don’t stay in the water too long, it will make you woozy (from experience). The room was airy with a large picture window in the living room. You could see the hotel and businesses across the street. It’s a small modern styled hotel. You can walk to many of the important scenic spots from here. The bus station is about 12 minutes a slight incline uphill. The Yubatake is about 5 minutes downhill. Miki speaks English and can answer questions about the town. She is very friendly. There is an elevator, a refreshment area for before and after bath with coffee, tea, candies, and a small lounging area. The bus is JR so I could use my rail pass.

The cook was on holiday so I had to fend for myself. Not many restaurants were open after 6 pm and hardly any at 7:30 am. Getting to Kusatsu is inconvenient as you have to take a bus to get there. It rained and I didn’t get much sightseeing done—Only stayed overnight.

This hotel charmed us with its ambiance from the moment we stepped inside. The proximity to the famous Yubatake and local onsens made it an ideal retreat. The hotel’s private onsen, while modest in size, has a lovely, intimate vibe. I got to enjoy it by myself which was a great experience. The level of service was amazing, with staff showcasing exceptional friendliness. The yukatas in our room were a thoughtful gesture that deeply enriched our cultural experience, making our trip feel even more special. I would stay here again!

The only downside to our stay was that the room’s curtains did little to block out the morning light, so consider bringing a sleep mask!

There is nothing I can say bad about this place. After a full on year, this is what the doctor prescribed. The reception was amazing, so down to earth and helpful. Close to everything 5 minute walk to the outdoor onsen, their own onsen was superb as well. I came in stressed and leaving like a new person. I can not say enough positive things about the friendliness and assistance provided. Even helped me plan trip back to Takasaki on a weekend, which is a little more difficult. I will be back.

The service was exceptional. Mika was a pleasure to talk to and went above and beyond to make our stay one of the best of our tour across Japan. It's a great location that's right between the downtown core and a lovely park. Room was good sized as well! And since there's only 10 rooms, the hotel Onsen might as well be a private onsen with two different water sources. The free coffee and tea in the lobby is a great touch too.

The beds were a bit hard. But nothing a soak in the hotel Onsen couldn't fix! ;)
