Extremely cozy and well located within the small onsen city of Kusatsu, only steps away from all the central activities such as Yubatake and all the tourist shops. Very clean facilities, 24/7 private baths for guests to use, that all have fresh hot spring water flowing into them. The staff are kind, and the breakfast is thoughtful and well prepared. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to visit again with family/friends. Some staff may not have the best English but they all made an excellent effort to communicate with me which I appreciated. 24/7 tea and coffee availability was also a big plus, especially after a long dip in the hot springs!

For a tall person, navigating the small doorways was a bit annoying, but there's nothing that can be really done about that. Just watch your head!

Very welcoming staff who gave me full tour of the place and went over all the amenities and how to use them. Staff doesn't speak English but has prepared sheets in English to go over frequently asked questions and rules. The location is great! It is just a block away from the main area and up the hill so from bus stop to the ryokan is short walk even if you have huge luggage and don't need to worry about going up and down steep hill with heavy stuff. Facilities were very clean and the welcome tea and snacks were very delicious. I got to try making my own matcha tea for the first time and the breakfast was light but also very delicious! As it was close to the bus station, I didn't need to rush to get on the first bus back to the train station. I will definitely stay here again for my next visit!

Walls are thin and you can hear people talking in the other room but after around 8pm it's very quiet. I was concerned at first but had one of the best sleep because it was so quiet and as it was not located in the main area, streets were very quiet as well. I would like to ask people who are looking to stay here to be courteous as well.

It was our honeymoon and we treated ourselves with the Sora suite with the private onsen. We arrived with car and we parked at their parking area. I was greeted by a lovely old lady, whom spoke a little bit English but had a English translation sheet readily available. We were urged to sit down for a welcome tea and sweets. It was so nice of them and definitely was a good first impression. We were then shown to our suite, which was in a seperate building. It was so roomy. The interior is def unique haha, but it had everything you need (including tv with Netflix if you just want to chill out). It had a living room, bedroom and kitchen (stocked with coffee machine). The hotel was located only 4 min walk to the heard of the city where the Yubatake is. The town itself is small, but the food is just splendid. The breakfast we had in the mornings were delicious and just enough to go through the morning. Overall, I recommend staying here for the amazing hospitality and convenience.

Nothing. It was great !

Amazing location within Kusatsu Onsen, a few minute walk from the bus terminal, then a few minute walk from Yubatake. Friendly staff. Welcome snack was amazing. Breakfast is included in price, and is hearty. They have free drinks that are refreshing (and not just coffee or tea). Four private onsen rooms are so good. Enjoy as a couple or solo in these rooms. Perfect for those who are inked. I stayed at the corner room with windows on both sides of wall. Two beds. Amazing room with colourful walls. Overall quiet stay even though my room faces the intersection.

The famous owner on YouTube only works on Saturdays. I was upset as I only found out when I asked the staff. So if you want to meet him, make sure you stay on a Saturday. The heat pump in the room is finnicky with no instructions. If you just press the on button, it will always be on despite overheating the room. You must turn to "Eco" mode so it will turn off at the thermostat temperature.

This was the best place I stayed in Japan across all seven of my trips. It’s just a few minutes from the bus terminal and a five-minute walk to the main hot spring. They offered a lovely welcome tea & dessert upon arrival and a delicious Japanese-style breakfast. The rooms are larger than most in Japan, very clean, and well-equipped. There are four private onsen baths on the ground floor available 24 hours. The staff are welcoming, helpful, and polite. Highly recommended if you're visiting this area—I would gladly return for a longer stay to enjoy my favorite onsen bath.

The Sora Room is a separate building. It is private, spacious, and very comfortable, especially with a private onsen room. There is no need to use anywhere else. The place is clean. The hotel provides everyone with a basket of small towel, socks, and tooth brushing set for going to the onsen outside. Very convenient. I was impressed that there was an automatic coffee maker in the room as well. The breakfast is very beautiful and delicious. I love that they offer tea, coffee, and fusion water for guest all day at the main building. Good service staff Check-in must wait after 3 p.m., but check-out is very convenient and fast.

This was one of my favourite stays during my trip to Japan! Our twin room was cosy, comfortable and so clean. The beds were the comfiest we had in Japan; I had the most relaxing sleep while staying here. We absolutely loved the breakfast we had, and everyone at the hotel was so kind and friendly. Their hospitality was the highlight of the trip! We stayed two nights and the chef made us a different meal each morning, and took us through the dishes as he brought them to us, and we were given delicious welcome sweets and matcha when we arrived. The breakfast room was so cosy with a fireplace and free coffee and tea. The location is excellent and easy to find; it was only a couple of minutes walk to the bus terminal and to the Yubatake, which is where most of the shops and restaurants are located. The four private onsen are also wonderful. We got to try out two, and we never found that we had to wait or miss out on using one of them when we wanted to. I loved the little baskets containing towels, pyjamas and toiletries that we were given. There are plenty of toiletries available in each of the onsen, and the pyjamas were so comfortable I wish I could have brought a pair home!

Nothing! We loved staying here and would definitely come back if we visited Kusatsu again.

The facilities are clean. The staff were very nice and greets me everytime i come back to the hotel. It felt like living in a Japanese House. Breakfast was delicious and I had multiple servings of the rice roll and miso soup. The room is nice as well. I can walk out with my pajamas and can bring my towel outside to use for the public bath houses. Lighting can be controlled multiple ways in the room.

The path from the bus stop to the place is downhill. That means going back to Tokyo is an uphill battle but thats the same for every other hotel in the area. No elevator inside the building and all rooms are all on the second floor. You have limited 1 towel / pajama per day.

Hanaingen is located between the bus station and Yubatake (central spot of Kusatsu). just 2 minutes walking to either way. The welcome drink and snack immediately gives you a japanese vibe. And the breakfast, just WOW. It was almost vegetarian, but we love it! The hotel also provides free drinks in the dining room. The staff are very polite and friendly. The room is spacious, luckily not noisy even though we got the one facing the street.

The private onsens are fun, although the water is TOO HOT! Couldn't dip our bodies inside for more than 30 seconds, even after washing ourselves with hot water. We always visit different onsen on every trips, so we know this one is really really hot. Maybe if the temperature can be lowered just a few more degrees, then it will be perfect for everyone.

A cozy room, in a great location located just minutes from the bus station and yubatake. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and different each day. The free to use private onsen are great for those wanting a little more privacy or just a place to relax away from the crowds. There was also a great subtle bean theme!

I arrived on an earlier bus than anticipated and had some difficulties in dropping my bags. However once we got past the misunderstanding everything else ran smoothly.
