The downstairs part of this hotel is really nice with lots of beautiful furniture and art. There were several places to hang out, including a rooftop terrace. Breakfast had several choices of western or Japanese style and everything was delicious. The international staff were all very friendly and helpful. They also had numerous tours and activities that could be booked. The hotel was a short walk to the main shopping street and we even walked to Kiyomizu Temple (a pleasant 30 minute walk). Lots of restaurants and cafes are in the area too. The only downside for me was the size of the room. We had the Shoin-style room and when the futon were out, there was barely room for our suitcase and the table/chairs. I had to keep jumping over the futon to get to my suitcase. I would stay in this hotel again but book a larger room.

The facility was beautiful on the inside and provided refreshments for you in the lobby while we waited to be checked in. They provide a Landry service or the hotel is located next to a coin laundry facility. It's walking distant from all major spots in kyoto such as shrines, river, and shopping district. We had accidentally left money when we checked out in our hotel room and they were so helpful returning it. They sent it overnight postage when we had already left for our Tokyo hotel and the mail arrived on time and their customer service was incredible.

I didn't like that you had to pay for private bath for only 30 minutes for 500 yen. Most ryokans it's free.

Amazing ryokan with great customer service and an overall fantastic experience in the Japanese style tatami flooring. Would highly recommend as the location is quiet but close to the market for fun bites and shopping and subways. Would also HIGHLY recommend the kimono rental offered onsite - not only is that team wonderful but the convenience can’t be beat. The price to rent kimono is comparable to standalone rental but the convenience of having direct access to your clothes and a shower afterwards is invaluable.

- Location: The Ryokan is located in a relatively central part of Kyoto that's about 10-15 walk from Shijo station with luggage. Around the corner from mini marts and assorted restaurants, the hotel provides a good list of them as some we ha actually tried before on a previous trip. - Short walk to Shijo dori and all the glitz on it - The facilities were nice with the option of a private bath in lieu of a public onsen. - Plenty of common space next to the lobby and it's tastefully done in traditional japanese style, the little gardens that border the accomodation also provide a good sense of atmosphere. - The property has lifts which makes it easier to carry luggage - The terrace on the top floor was open air and we did take advantage by having tea when it wasn't too cold - A few metres from a coin laundry was helpful, their commercial sized machines were much better than most provided by hotels.

- The rooms were nice, but might be a little cramped for some - The sound proofing was alright for outside but if you had noise guests on the same floor... forget about it. We had a terror of a young teenager who literally screamed and screamed while his family were in other rooms on the floor... I would have been angry if I didn't feel even more sorry for his family members staying in the same room.

My room was so beautiful and the staff were so helpful and spoke very good English.

I had noisy people above me, which is not the properties fault, but I could hear them walking around very late at night and very early in the morning.

Room is a modelled after a traditional Ryokan Mattresses and quilts were some of the most comfy of any Ryokan I've ever stayed in before Staff went above and beyond in every area we asked them to help in Amenities like toothbrushes and combs are high quality The location is prefect. Close walking distance to mall and Nishiki markets

Internet cut in and out frequently Room is a bit dim even if it's meant to be the Ryokan style. Had to request for an additional lamp Had to request additional pillows and mattress layer. Would have been nice if these spares were already in the room Private Onsen was nice, but it's really only built for one person, not enough space for couples to share Amenities range is basic like toothbrush, comb, shaver and bodywash. Would have been nice to have some body creams seeing this is a Ryokan.

This hotel is a newer building with ryokan-style rooms. The rooms are very new and clean. It comes with the smell of dry bamboo. We got a room without soundproofing but we could hardly hear any noise, except some foot steps from above and occasional traffic outside the window. But they are not in any way annoying, even though I am very sensitive to noise while sleeping. There is also a small laundry right next to the hotel.

The breakfast sets are limited in choices. The only set that makes sense is the Japanese set. It comes with a piece of grilled salmon and some seasonal side dishes, that kind of repeat themselves after a while. But it is still worth it and very filling for a long day of endless walk outside in Kyoto.

Lovely stay in Kyoto where you can relax and decompress. We loved this modern ryoka-inspired stay. The common areas were very well curated, with beautiful traditional Japanese art and wooden work. We booked the hot bath a couple of times and it was a very nice experience, as we also got to open the little door on the side of the room to get some fresh air in. We appreciated the attentiveness of the staff, who always made sure we had everything we needed. They also helped us with shipping our luggage to the next destination. The location was in a calm area close to restaurants, bars, kombinis, and well connected.

The laundry service they offered was difficult as it was presented to us as a "first come first served" basis service. We could not know how long it might take to get our clothes clean, as they only had one machine that they operated themselves. So we ended up doing our laundry in the laundromat next by.

Location is perfect: close to shops, restaurants, train and subway stations, etc. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was tasty. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially Farhan.

The fact that the front desk is not a 24-hour front desk. Our original flight from Singapore was to arrive at Osaka airport at 10:00 pm and there was no way we could get to the hotel before 11:00 pm, so we had to change our flight. The only available option was a red eye that arrived at Osaka at 6:00 am. This meant that we arrived at the hotel at 8:00 am and had to wait until 3:00 pm to get into our room (7 hours!). I was thoroughly exhausted and unable to rest properly, resulting in a wasted day in Kyoto.

Room was simple but comfortable, air conditioned, spacious, clean. Great shower. Bathroom lighting was good for doing make-up, which is extremely rare in hotels! The common areas in the hotel are really quite nice. There's also a lovely roof terrace we didn't know about until we got there. The staff were very helpful and all spoke perfect English (and other languages, according to their badges!) It's a good hotel for young people and groups, they have lots of info about activities around Kyoto. They even helped us advertise some extra theatre tickets we'd bought by accident! Location is great for Gion/ Southern Higashiyama/ Downtown, most places really. Tons of great bakeries and cafes nearby if you fancy a Western breakfast/ sandwich for lunch etc.

Western breakfast at the hotel was not worth the money... can't remember why we didn't have the Japanese breakfast but it looked better. This is a family friendly hotel, i.e. there are quite a lot of children and babies here, which can be noisy.
