This is the best hotel I could hope for on my trip to Kyoto. I stayed at Design Hotel Kyoto Fuyacho for 8 nights. Location and convenience: 1. It is conveniently located in the Kawaramachi area, close to many shopping streets and dining areas, including Nishiki Market. The Kamo River and Kiyomizu area are also within walking distance. 2. There is a supermarket right next door, so it's really convenient to get supplies. There is also a pharmacy/drug store within a 5-minute walk. 3. Ample restaurants, cafes, and bars within walking distance. 4. several subway lines and bus stops close by Room comfort: 1. the room is so spacious that my friend and I could comfortably stay for 8 nights with big luggage 2. good storage space, including two big closets and drawers. So we could put all our clothes and treat this place as home 3. We also love the kitchen, where we can heat food and make coffee and tea. 4. The spacious bathroom has a big tub, so we could have a hot bath after a long day of walking and sightseeing. 5. The bathroom has a laundry machine, so we can wash and dry our clothes during this long trip. Quietness: 1. each floor has only two units. So there is not much noise of elevator opening and door slamming that we could hear from the room 2. the hotel is located on a quiet street. So there is no street noise as well.
1. It will be nice to have a whole-body mirror in the room. So we could check our outfits before going out. 2. We got 6 bottles of water when we checked in. There are two of us staying here for 8 nights. So we have to leave a message to the hotel to get more supply. 3. There is no cleaning service during our stay. Although i understand this is more eco friendly, but it will be nice to have at least one cleaning service in our long stay.

The Design hotel is in a new building and a few minutes away from great places to eat, conveniently close to the main street and to the metro stations. The apartment is big and has enough space to enjoy longer stays. I liked that everything was new and well maintained! I did not miss the fact that there is no daily cleaning. The communication with the hotel was fast over email and messages, I extended my stay and I am happy I did so. On the ground floor there is access to additional toiletries, coffee and a living area.
The person at the front desk upon arrival did not meet the expectations: he welcomed us asking "who are you?" which is a weird way to welcome new guests. He did not attempt to help with luggages or explain anything additional upon check-in (yes, I got information before checking in through messages but it would have been nicer to reiterate in person). This is only applicable to one person, the people we saw at the front desk on the following days were very sweet.

The room was perfect for a family of three. My daughter loved her little area that could be closed off by sliding doors. Everything was pristine in terms of cleanliness and the staff went out of its way to accommodate our needs. The location was great for getting to the subway, restaurants and we found some amazing surprise finds like the D.Design restaurant and store in the Buddhist monastery on the way to the subway. Honestly it was by far our favorite of the 5 hotels we stayed at in Japan!!!
I didn’t like that we had to leave.

Our room was perfect for a family of 4, as we could close off a sleeping area for the late-sleeping teenagers meaning everyone got the rest they needed. The kitchen area was thoughtfully supplied, and there were generous gestures, like the coffee, ice-cream and other supplies in the lounge. We didn't manage to make much use of the roof terrace, but another great feature. The location was perfect, being close to the main area of Kyoto, but very quiet in the immediate surrounds. A supermarket two doors down and an excellent small pub a few doors after that made our stay in Kyoto just perfect. Could not recommend it highly enough.

The room was larger then most places we stayed at in Japan. The room was very clean and had everything that we needed as a Family of four. The check in instructions were the best and easy to follow. The hotel staff was always available through chat to answer questions and take care of our needs. In the lobby they had a Nesspresso Coffee machine and a freezer with free ice cream that my son's enjoyed. Was one of the best stays we had in a booking.com property. The location was near everything and the property was in a very quite neighborhood.
Nothing.

The Appartement was very nice with a awesome location. The main shopping street and the Gion district were very close. We had the Standard Appartement for 2 persons for 4 nights. If you want a kitchen of your own, you have to book a more superior room. A shared kitchen is on the ground floor available for everybody. There is free coffee, tea and some options for breakfast. Overall we had a very nice stay and would recommend to stay there.
The bedcover was a little bit thin. Without AC it was getting a little bit cold at night. Bigger / thicker bedcovers would be nice, if possible.

Breakfast? There was no breakfast. We had to make our own breakfast. But the coffee machine was great! Good kitchen, very good bathroom, wifi, clothes washer/dryer, location, security, electrical outlets, beds, and good response from management.
Some of the appliances directions were only in Japanese and it made it very difficult to use if you don't understand Japanese. Translated directions are needed. Better cable TV with basic international canals are needed, ie CNN, BBC, ESPN, etc. Also Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube would be great. English directions for TV and all appliances.

The ambience and decor of the place is super amazing.. it definitely has a touch of architect.. so well planned the reception area with contemporary modern furniture.. room size was marvellous.. owner was so helpful and assisted us with all our queries.. bonus/icing on the cake was the free ice creams in the fridge which our 15 months old daughter loved everytime we got back from our day visit.. very accesible to metro, restaurants, shopping streets and super market.. best place we stayed in entire japan considering we have also stayed in osaka and tokyo few times.. dont miss out on this one if it is available.. jus book it with eyes closed
Absolutely nothing..

Brilliant location with great amenities. Walking distance to great shopping, train and to Gion. It was lovely to have good sized beds, a lounge area and kitchenette. We were a little cold so asked for and received extra doonas and pillows. The communal kitchen with coffee pods and free croissant and ice cream was a nice touch.
Only slight issue is noise from local supermarket - we could hear trucks loading up early morning. Ear plugs solved this

It is brand new, very clean, super design although traditional. Super easy to check in and drop off luggage’s in advance. The entrance with the common kitchen is really welcoming with tea, nespresso and croissant every morning! It is very quiet in a small street and from walking distance to the shopping and restaurant streets. I recommend 100%!
