This is a great place to stay for when you want to have your own private quiet space (and a bit more space than a typical hotel room), but still want to be cared for by hotel-like staff. We landed on this place because I wanted to stay in a typical Ryokan, but my husband wanted his own bathroom. It was the best stay of our Japan trip out of 3 hotels that were all far above average. It feels very secluded and private, there are around 10 apartments in total and everyone has their own entrance. There's a coin washing machine as well. There is a small breakfast buffet with really great coffee and they provide some free snacks during the day as well I believe. All in all it feels really kind and caring.

The location is a bit further out but close to some attractions like Nijo-castle and the Imperial Palace (surrounding park). We didn't mind so much because we liked the room and the area so much, but it is a few kilometres from the main tourist areas/restaurants so that's to be kept in mind. The room was very clean as was the bathroom, although there were a few tiny cobwebs here and there, which may be difficult to get rid of for this type of building.

Very cool machiya experience, nice and modern with traditional touches. The big gate and alley way was just such a neat touch and in our opinion the whole aesthetic is way better than a hotel downtown. The round wooden bath was really cool and the bed was comfortable; lots of space in the unit (we had the one at the very back 5 I think). We loved the complimentary "red room" snacks and drinks; pretty cool to be able to try different sake and wine etc for free. The staff was super nice and helpful! Great location for buses and stuff too.

Only a few minor things: I'd love to have been able to open the door by the bath but it was locked for safety, dark curtains above the bed would help with lights outside, the walls were a bit scuffed which is so minor but it would elevate the room to address it. Does not change our strong recommendation to stay!

A very nice experience staying in a small townhouse type unit that combines some traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comforts. These units are tucked in a neighborhood with other apartments, giving yourself a sense of blending in with the locals somewhat. Our unit had 1 king bed bedroom and two very comfortable futons that were laid out on the tatami mat each night. The bathroom is modern, with a nice large wood tub (that we didn't use though), with an additional half bath. It's not luxury, but very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing with traditional wooden doors, nice rugs and other thoughtful design touches. I liked the location, although it's not a short walk to the night market if that's important to you. The bus stop taking you there is a 3 minute walk away. The nearest subway station is 1km away, so not close but and easy flat walk even with luggage. But from the front door, there are really nice small cafes and bars within walking distance in seemingly any direction. The Kyoto national garden is also nearby, making it an excellent place to run to and back. The free breakfast and evening happy hour was nice to have, we enjoyed this every day during our 5-day stay. Service is excellent, and they have some non-Japanese staff that speak english very well.

When we went it was starting to get cold. I wasn't cold in the unit but just be aware it relies on space heaters. I was a bit concerned upon arriving because the space does feel cold (not cozy) but I was perfectly comfortable. The wall/window of the bedroom is not very soundproof at all. So while the streets in this area are relatively empty, you'll still have cars driving by , even later at night, which creates a lot of noise in that bedroom. I ended up sleeping with ear plugs.

Absolutely loved the character and charm of the hotel, the facilities, the lounge area for breakfast/evening drinks, ease of use of the washer/dryer that was there. The hotel was in a quiet residential section of Kyoto, yet access to Nijo Castle, the Imperial Palace and downtown Kyoto was very easy and within a 15 minute walk. Access to the train stations and Uber/Taxi's were equally easy. Amazing local restaurants within walking distance of the Hotel - highly recommend Daigan around the corner for an amazing sushi with an engaging/entertaining/welcoming chef.

Cloudy, rainy weather - but that wasn't the hotel's fault!

Excellent boutique hotel that’s in a quiet part of western Kyoto but a 35 minute walk from touristy area and close to some attractions (10-15 min walk). Lots of local restaurants nearby that are wonderfully nontouristy. Lovely to have food and refreshments at almost all hours between 8am-10pm including breakfast, afternoon tea and snacks, and a wide selection of drinks and snacks in the evening. The staff were helpful at making reservations. The rooms were both modern and traditional and very clean.

Small point but the closet was located in the entrance. There was no closet or even a hook to hang anything inside, including in the loft bedroom. There’s a bright exit sign on a beam upstairs where you sleep but we were able to throw a shirt over it each night to dim it. There’s lots of natural light but most windows are opaque so you can’t look outside.

I had an excellent experience at Rinn Shiki Juraku, ideally located close to Nijo Castle and central Kyoto. The rooms offer modern comforts like air conditioning, free WiFi, and well-equipped kitchenettes in selected units. The garden is a serene place to unwind, and the on-site bar provides a cozy spot for evening relaxation. The staff were exceptionally welcoming, enhancing the quality of my stay. With major attractions like the Kyoto Imperial Palace nearby, Rinn Shiki Juraku is a perfect choice for travelers seeking convenience and comfort.

Curtains in rooms—maybe some rooms have it—could be very helpful.

It was a great experience staying in Japanese style house with the convenience of the hotel. It was served complimentary breakfast and snack with drinks at evening. They also offered the bottle of matcha on arriving and there was local sweet and instant udon available in the room making feel us very welcomed. The staff was always very kind and helpful. It was a great stay in Kyoto.

We stayed in the house number 1 where we have to get to the rooms/dining/kitchen climbing the stairs that was very steep and narrow. It was hard to take our stuffs up there.

The apartment was spacious and clean. Bathtub to die for after a long day or walking. The staff are very attentive and informative. My favourite was the lounge room area and all the treats and vibe they provided. Welcome drink (traditional in season drink) was amazing and snacks kept me going.

Check out time is earlier than stated on bookings.com. I was unaware and planned to leave at 12.30 as stated on here, they called (woke me from a nap) and then called again and again to tell me I’d be charged 20,000 if I was over 30mins late. I had to rush to leave.

A quiet little escape from busy, tourist packed Kyoto, perfect for our four night stay in Kyoto end March. Very reasonably priced compared to many of the Kyoto hotels. We had house number 5, very spacious, big very comfy bed. We loved the little lounge area where they serve breakfast and a selection of drinks and snacks throughout the day. We had a hire car and parked in the car park almost opposite, very reasonably priced. Great base to then explore Kyoto. We did also utilise nearby stations to get around. You are not super close to the very popular tourist areas but all very accessible and it suited us to have a quieter escape as the city was very busy coming into peak blossom time. Staff all lovely and helpful Thank you

Excellent service, at many times it felt like we were the only ones in the hotel which we loved. Breakfast and alcoholic drinks included in the evening, great selection for both, especially liked the local scones and granola for breakfast. We picked room 5 which was huge and had a gorgeous bathroom. Bed and bedding so comfy. Washing machine and dryer available which we found useful halfway into our 2 week trip in Japan. We used the city bus a lot to get around Kyoto, really easy to use and only a 5 minute walk from the accommodation.

The fire exit sign in the bedroom was so bright it was like the light had been left on. Not a problem though, just maybe take an eye mask 🙂
