Very private and tucked away in a nice part of town. It was warm, clean and friendly with great staff and amenities. The aesthetics were a luxurious traditional vibe. I had many requests during my time at Kaya including booking a doctors appointment and the staff were really accommodating despite how annoying even I thought I was getting. Absolutely loved the hotel's efforts to be environmentally friendly. Bicycle rental shop located a few mins walk away just one street back from the hotel.

Only one of the pods for the machine in the room was a coffee and there were two of us. The pods were replenished the following day and I'm sure I could have asked for another one or had a teapod instead so maybe it's my own attitude I didn't like.

Staying in Kyoto for a week requires us to find a hotel like home, cozy, comfortable and great value. We found Kaya as our best option. The nice ambience lighting makes the room feels like home. Big and comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The daily room cleaning service is great. All the provided toothbrushes, combs, hair brushes are all in good quality, made of wood! My favorite part is the free coffee provided in the lobby, beats the ones from a coffee shop.

The breakfast price is bit pricey

The hotel is really nice and brand new, in my opinion it's in the best city of Japan, it has a good location near public transport and also close to nijo castle. If you don't mind walking along the streets of Kyoto it's a really good choice!

Since it's a small hotel it's understandable there's no laundry service, but it would be handy being able to wash your clothes there so you don't have to carry them around to the closest laundromat

Room was as expected.

We arrived 20 mins before check in time and asked if the room was available now to which the reply was "yes". The staff then said we would need to pay a fee which was made to sound like city tax which did seem quite high. Only afterwards did we realise we were charged for an extra hour in the room and the city tax at the same time and felt misled - we would have been happy to wait for 20 mins to avoid paying for an extra hour in the room.

Good sized rooms. Netflix. Well equipped toiletries in room. Comfortable bed and pillows.

Windows in rooms do not open at all, so zero fresh air - stifling. Breakfast selection not great. Not flexible at all after staying in two rooms for 3 days and on asking for a very short late checkout due to the time of our train to the next city, the hotel wanted to charge us extra by the hour - never had a hotel try that before, very poor.

The property was beautiful and the room was incredible, especially for the price. The staff was very friendly and kind. Lovely place, I even extended my stay in kyoto because I loved the room (AND THE SHOWER) so much.

There was a “popping” sound in my room that kept bothering me throughout the night, I could not figure out where it was coming from and strangely enough, it only started on my second night there.

The decor was great, loved the bamboo theme. Loved the amenities in the room, had coffee and the machine and kettle were clean. Had robes and slippers. They put our luggage in the room since we stored our luggage at the front desk since it was before check in.

One of the key cards didn’t work but that’s fine, we only needed one really. The pillows were not very comfortable though and the bed was stiff, but I think that’s just my personal preference.

Really large, gorgeous rooms. Everything is very modern and clean. The bathroom was lovely too. The location is not ideal, but it’s also not a major problem as there’s a subway station within walking distance (>10minutes away)

The promise of a fitness centre definitely encouraged me to book this hotel but unfortunately there wasn’t much equipment available to use.

Excellent value for money - so many thoughtful touches! It was extremely clean, great interior design, very calming and Japanese style. It's very close to Nijo Castle and doesn't take long to get to the hustle and bustle of Gion and other areas. There were some highly rated restaurants nearby but all were booked when we were there so worth looking in advance. The hotel is locked on very cute Kyoto streets.

The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice and helpful. Complimentary drinks in the salon were a nice addition.

The location is good if you don’t mind walking or a short ride on the local bus the the busier parts of Kyoto.
